Summary: What a ride!
Review: This film is not for everyone. But if you're into it, what a ride! I saw it in the theater and was mesmorized until it insulted my intellience, and just when I thought Lynch was trying to pull off a gimmick, got me thinking, and then I kept telling myself now that Lynch has me thinking, if he doesn't pay off and pull the rug out from under me, I am going to very angry and never see a Lynch film again,(except Blue Velvet). But he pulled off a remarkable, unique, beautiful, disgusting, sick,..., artful film that was worthy of a best director nomination. And all of the clues are there in the context of the film to solve this a twisted plot. Bravo Mr. Lynch! The DVD version is outstanding but the theater experience can't be captured on disc. The blurred frontal nudity is no big deal but I have to agree with others, we're adults and it should not have been altered. Like it or not the film is worth seeing!

Review: I believe David Lynch is one of the boldest an most creative directors in american cinema. But if you want to catch 2 examples of this brilliance buy the Elephant man or Blue velvet,not this hogwash of an unbalanced movie!!! This film never really takes off the ground an remains lackluster through out. I love Lynch's Past efforts but not this one. This film made me feel plenty of Garmonbozia(pain an sorrow)...

Summary: CONFUSION DRIVE!
Review: Very ambigious movie that will leave most viewers very uncertain. Lynch includes scenes and characters briefly to only add to the the confusion. I finished the movie asking too many questions as to who and what? To generalize in my opinion to what this movie is about is this: A young insecure woman with an obvious identity crisis who cannot the handle the corruption and deceitfulness of the Hollywood scene. Her dreams were crushed. To me, this movie did not make very much sense and I did not even have the desire to watch it a second time to gain clarity. There are parts to this film I find very interesting, especially the bonding between the 2 female characters. Some scenes are interesting but I find that they never form a connection to the puzzle of what is going on and why. I guess the concrete scenes the viewer sees are suppose to help him or her form their own symbolic or abstract message of what this movie is supposed to be all about. This movie might click better with a crazy person who suffers from multi-personality disorders?

Summary: Look for the clues
Review: I think I have figured out what is going on in this movie, probably because I got lucky. On my first viewing I had no
clue what the hell was going on. The movie haunted me for days. I decided for my second viewing I would start watching the movie upon the opening of the mysterious blue box. The following scene is Betty sleeping in bed. The cowboy comes in and says, time to wake up pretty girl, giving away the clue that the first part of the movie is all a dream. Other clues are the two girls at club silencio, where the theme at the club is what you see is not what you get. Everything that transpires there is a test of our perception. Much like what we are watching is too a test of our preception, an illusion. Another clue is at Betty's first acting audition. Before she starts her lines the director says, don't make it real until it's real. This movie clearly becomes real once the box is opened. Don't try to look too deep into this movie because you will end up with a brain aneurysm. Whether I am right or not this is truly a hypnotic movie watching experience with some classic scenes. Even at 2.5hrs in running time, you can never get enough Lynch.

Summary: Whoa!
Review: I've got one word for:"Mulholland Drive" and it is:WOW! That was a really good movie. But it's not perfect. David Lynch directed and wrote this movie really well. He also did the music pretty good. The acting was good. Those two lead actress (who I've never seen before) both are good and could a good carrer if they are in the right movies and get good breaks. Most of the cast was good. Dan Hedya was not in the film enough tho. Billy Ray Crus did a good job in his two scenes. There were some people in the movie that were not that good. The stroy line & plot are good and really original. The beging of the film was kind of slow but then it picked uped and was good. But the last 25 mintues are defintly the highlight of the movie. Most of the 147 mintues good buy good expect for those slow parts. I expected a better DVD for this movie tho. Becuase it did well for indie film. The features are:Theatrical Trailer (1:47) which is good and there is also Cast/Film Maker Bigoraphys. There are bio's and film highlights for four of the cast member and they are 3 pages and there is the dricetor which is two pages. This is a really good movie and I hope that there is a special edition DVD planed for it!

It is all a tape recording. Excellent DVD. I'd give it 10 stars. I've already watched it 5 times since it came out last week. It looks and sounds better than it did in the theater that i saw it in. by the way.. the 10 clues on the insert seem to be mostly red-herrings, or are already made obvious to the keen observer. If you really want to understand this film 100%, the only way to do it is to become david lynch. even then, i suspect you might be surprised at how much of the story isn't supposed to come together into an airtight plot. Every theory one could possibly generate about this film will have holes. There will never be a single set of rules to guide you along the way to understanding it. Life itself is not like that. But we can re-live it over and over again in our memories, and try our best to find out how we got to where we are.. just as we can re-watch this DVD over and over again, and try to figure out how the story gets to where it does. why? because there is no band. there is no orchestra. it is all a tape recording.

Summary: Not Very Good!!
Review: I think I watched this movie for approximately 30 minutes before I then turned it off. I really could not get into it. I was lost. I bought the DVD, but decided to rent the movie and watch it first...I'm glad that I did. I returned the un-opened DVD the next day. I know that some people said it was great, but in my opinion it wasn't. If a movie doesn't grab me in the first few scenes or at least in the first 30 minutes, then forget it.

Summary: Calm Down People
Review: I can't help but get a laugh out of all the people who are freaking out at the lack of chapter stops on the DVD. Get over yourselves. David Lynch says that movies aren't books, and shouldn't have chapters. Just admire Mulholland Drive as pure cinematic acheivement. The sound and picture are amazing. The performances are astounding, and the story will make you want to view the DVD again and again. Isn't that what great cinema is supposed to do? If you can't get past the lack of "Chapter Stops"--maybe this isn't the film for you.

Summary: There's nothing like a free Lynch.
Review: To describe this movie I might as well cite a widely known critic: "You don't have to be smart to enjoy it, just willing to do a little work of your own and come to your own conclusions."
Interestingly enough, this movie is already attracting at it's very surface, whereas it actually needs one or two cycles to just understand the basic plot. And only then the real pleasure begins, trying to put the numerous details into place.
As the script itself is intellectually pleasing, I understand this movie to be an ensemble achievement. The cast is extraordinary and gives you an idea what acting is really about. Most notably, Naomi Watts is a blast. The camera is subtle, observe for example the 'continous movement' strategy, and the score, though mainly synth, congenial.
I admit I always had a slight problem with Lynch since, to me, he sometimes seems to be a manipulator with the actual message missing. Now here, if you decide to understand the movie that way, you'll find at the bottom a deeply humanistic theme of Shakespearean dimension: "a bit forced, maybe, but still humanistic." :)
For me, in years maybe decades, beside Takeshi Kitano's Hanabi, one of the few real Masterpiece Candidates. A cinematic peak, presumably in the class of 81/2 and Andrei Rublev, as time will show.
