Rating: Summary: LaLuna Review: I saw this on PBS and I thought she was the most well rounded and versatile entertainer I've seen. Her voice is incredible.
Rating: Summary: voice of an ANGEL Review: i saw this concert live in anaheim in october. it is definately the best concert i have ever seen. this is a must buy for all sarah brightman fans. the costumes and flying singing in air was breath taking.this concert brought tears to my mothers eyes!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: I atteneded the actual concert in Ft. Lauderdale where this video was filmed, and I have seen the video on PBS. It's worth every penny. Sarah is at her best. The music, the costumes, the videography are all fabulous. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Entertainment Review: I recently took my father to see Sarah Brightman on her 'Harem' tour, having previously seen Sarah myself on the 'La Luna' tour. She never disapoints. She is an incomperable performer and singer, and my dad doesn't get out much, being disabled, and I had never seen him so excited than he was at that concert. I had given him all my Sarah concerts on VHS when I moved and bought a DVD player, and everytime he's alone in the house, he says he watches them. The video on La Luna is not as good as the DVD, but watching this concert, and being at the real thing, I could barely tell the difference. 'Moon River' is one of my favorite songs, and I was so delighted when she came out for an encore, sat down on a piece of stage equipment, and just crooned it to the audience, just as she does in the DVD. The fireworks display on "Question of Honour" is almost as spectacular as it was in person, too. Well worth the buy, if you're a fan, or if you'd like some mood music playing on the TV for a dinner party or something. It's beautiful to watch.
Rating: Summary: A concert of high-quality! Review: First of all: I don't understand those fiew reviewers accusing sarah of "lip-synching". Why on earth would she have to do that? It's a female opera singer herself who told me that this singer (Sarah) posesses one of the most flawless singing techniques one can have, and her voice has been trained by some of the best teachers. The same opera singer told me that is extraordinary that Sarah is capable of using 3 to 4 different voices without loosing any of them, which is again proof of her awesome singing skills.
By the way: it may indeed look like she's playbacking for two reasons:
1) The singing techinques make it so that her throat stays completely relaxed while singing, so you can see no tension there. The vocals come out of her chest and head, which protects the vocal cords.
2) The sound mix for the DVD afterwards, the "post production" can make it seem like she's playbacking as well, because what you hear on the DVD is not the live vocal, but the recorded live-vocal (recorded during the concert) which has been remixed with all the recorded instruments and then been "re-synchronised" with the images of her on the stage.
Bodem line: Sarah really does sing live, she disposes of great singing skills that can lift her voice to dizzying hights, and although she may not a have a "large" operatic voice and therefore needs an amplyfier, she still sounds like an angel and she can still burst into a soaring soprano that will make your head spin.
Secondly: this concert is defenitely worth the watch. It's concieved much more as a theatrical spectacle than a show like you'd get from Madonna or Celine Dion or... (with all due respect to those artists of course). Sarah's voice can still carry an entire show and stand on its own (which it oftenly does) without boring you one second.
Striking costumes, great choreography being carried out by professional dancers, awesome lighting, a good amount of smoke every now and then to add to the mystery, a long and well chosen / well-composed set of songs, a beautiful voice filling the entire show hall and an equally beautiful woman with her heart in the right place (you'd be surprised at how warm hearted and friendly she is...), will wipe you of your feet and take you into a dream world. Go buy this DVD and you won't be dissappointed.
I would also recommend the "Live in Las Vegas DVD", from her latest Harem-Tour.
And to conclude with: you won't be succesfull and you won't sell out the largest concert hall in Las Vegas if you can't sing live... .
Rating: Summary: Oh, my ... Lip-synced again? Review: Thank you previous reviewer (Tom) for the warning of her lip-syncing in this dvd. I totally agree that she lip-synced in "One Night in Eden", which lacked her passion and spirit and communication between her and audience because of "not" actually singing. So, I know that in any case audience cannot be led to Eden even for one munite without singers' actual singing and sincere effort. I almost wanted to try this dvd expecting a real concert. I won't buy this because of the reviewer's "testimony". I'd like comment this: If a singer can't sing before audience, she/he must quit singing with humble heart.
Rating: Summary: Heartfelt and Wonderful Review: This concert offers one up happy surprise after another. The special effects seem a bit excessive at times but don't really hurt the show. The same is true with effects added to the video-not all of them work but they don't interfere with the performance. That part of things is beyond reproach. It's not often one hears music by Dvorák, Mancini and Brian May on the same programme with some traditional music thrown in to the mix. It's even less often the artist sounds comfortable such a wide variety of material. Sarah Brightman does. "Scarborough Fair" is a traditional piece. She follows it with "Who Wants to Live Forever". That was a hit for Queen. La Luna is an adaptation of "Song to the Moon" which was written by Antonin Dvoråk. She performs them all beautifully and with an ease which makes them compatible with one another. Her rendition of "Nessun Dorma" (Puccini) brings the house down. Even more touching is her interpretation of "La Califfa". That one was written by Ennio Morricone, the man who provided the magnificent and wonderful music for many of the best films to come from Sergio Leone. He has as much of a gift for songs as for soundtracks. Much of his work is indescribably beautiful. She brings it all to the surface with a ravishing performance of the piece. Her performance of "Time to Say Goodbye" is a thing of beauty. Her performance of the music from "The Phantom of the Opera" is an outpouring of emotion from her to her audience. This work is still very close to her heart and it shows. The treatment she gives it is tender, loving and sensual to the point of being a caress. There's never any doubt that she's singing it directly to somebody. This sounds as much like a deep and heartfelt "thank you" as it does a performance. Any cynicism anyone ever had about her connection to Webber has to vanish when this is heard. I've read that she and Webber are still the best of friends and on seeing this, believe it. She sings these pieces with a love that's as deep as could ever be felt.
There's a lot of money behind this show. The production values and special effects used make that obvious. The money's there because she's succeeded at making it work though, not because she's doing it for the money. No artist that tries to bring material from such a wide range of genre together and present it in one format is doing it just for the money. They're trying to open doors for their audience. She does that and she does it well. That she's as comfortable with this range of material as she is is a credit to her and her production partner Frank Peterson. She is a major talent and an extremely dedicated artist. Her voice is deceptive. It sounds small and fragile but it's not. She has enormous range and the ability to colour all areas of it with a wide variety of shadings. She can sing at a whisper or fill a hall and never strains doing either. He is an extremely gifted musical force. He wrote a lot of the material for "La Luna". He adapted most of the source material he drew on to fit the style they both wanted to use. He arranged everything. The quality of the sound recording and the way it's mixed is exemplary. He oversaw that as well. A lot of people have (or had) reservations about Sarah Brightman and her work because of her rise to fame was so closely connected to Andrew Lloyd Webber and his musical, "The Phantom of the Opera". I know. I was one of them.
I was wrong. I'm a fan now.
Rating: Summary: Sarah Brightman La Luna Review: I am a fan of Josh Groban and I have the duet of Josh and Sarah singing There For Me. Josh sings I think his part of There For Me in French? Not quite sure which language, however when I got the dvd and went to this song to see them sing he sings his part in English. I don't understand why he dosen't sing it the way I heard it. And does anyone know if this song is on sarah's cd cause it says Here For Me? Is this a typo? thanks, Christine
Rating: Summary: SARAH'S VOICE GREAT. VIDEO ROCK CONCERT CRAP SUCKS. Review: For those who love Sarah's voice, you will not be disappointed. However, for those expecting a classy concert worthy of her and her voice, you will be disappointed.
Her makeup, costumes, and choreograph in the video is all way overdone. Too much "barbarella" make-up(she is naturally attractive), to much "starwars" looking costumes(who to hells idea was this), and too many "flying people" choreographing(would you believe). Her beauty(face, figure and voice) are lost in the immature and distracting silliness???
I want to give this a 5, and I would if it were on a CD. But I have to give the video a 1, so the average is a 3. In fact, I would suggest you save money and by her La Luna CD instead. If you already have it, I would suggest you save money and continue to adore her for her voice and beauty on the CD and insert pictures. This video will drag your classy impression of this lady to trashy.
