Summary: Oscar-Worthy Status! Move Over, "Titanic".
Review: "Selena" happened to be one of the BEST of the BEST movies made in 1997. Think about it: "Titanic" was made the same year, yet the Academy Of Arts and Sciences named it Oscar-worthy. Yeah, sure it was, but this is about the movie that was made to remember a singer who made a HUGE impact on this world, even after her death. A sinking beauitful ship changed history, but really, c'mon! Really, the Academy overlooked this movie. Jennifer was brilliant as Sel, while Edward James Olmos (an outstanding veteran actor) shined as Abraham Quintanilla! They should have been nominated for Oscars, though Jennifer was nominated for a Golden Globe. Overall this movie was well cast, well written, just well made!

Summary: a classic...
Review: This is the exciting story of a girl who wouldn't give up on her dreams no matter how many troubles she faced. The role of Selena, played by Jennifer Lopez, was great and we felt her pains and triumphs as we were watching. The storyline builds and builds with interesting scenes up to a thrilling, heart-breaking climax that any viewer will never forget. This movie is a true classic and I'd recommend it highly to anyone who is capable of looking at a screen.

Summary: Fun And Entertaining.
Review: "Selena" is a fun movie, well-made, performed and entertaining. I do agree that a bit more time should have been waited before making a movie about the doomed Tex-Mex singer. Selena was a talented artist and that feeling vibrates through-out the entire movie, especially with Jennifer Lopez's immpecable performance which is right up there with Val Kilmer in "The Doors." However, sometimes we do feel as if this is really a shot at gaining some big bucks off Selena's image (but then again, isn't that the case with ALL products quickly released after a singer's death?). Yet the movie works, it is not an epic, grand piece, but it is still well-directed by Gregory Nava, who manages to capture the characters and their feelings in a believable way. Also, in the tradition of all singer movie bios, Nava also adds some mythic touches we know probably didn't take place, but for the sake of elevating our modern artists into rock god/goddess status, he puts them in (take that scene where she quiets a huge crowd by just raising a finger for example). Do we care about the dramatic license? Not really, since movies are fantasies in themselves. Back to Jennifer Lopez, she looks so much like the real thing that we never doubt for a moment that it is SELENA on screen, even with Lopez's current superstar status, we can still see this movie and think it is Selena doing things on screen and not Lopez. She also lip-syncs the songs perfectly and moves like the real person resurrected. All in all, it's not just a movie for tejano fans, it is a film anyone looking for a good time can enjoy. It is a sweet package about fame, singing and falling in love. The songs are pretty good too. It's a fun movie all around and I really can't think of anyone making another movie about Selena. It isn't a masterpiece, but could stand by "La Bamba" and "The Doors" as a great artist bio that can stand the test of time.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I had never heard of Selena before she was shot to death by her fan club president. I accidentally caught the movie on TV and got completely into it. This is a great film about a beautiful, talented, charismatic young girl/woman who died way too young at the hands of someone she thought she could trust. I have watched this movie three times, and I have cried every time.

I am a fan of Selena now and I am so sad that english-speaking America never got the chance to get to know her. I'm sad that I only became aware of her after her death. I am also angry about her murder, that her dazzling, promising future was ripped from her so violently.

If you are thinking you wouldn't enjoy this movie because you don't care for tejano music, prepare to be surprised. This is a great movie.

Summary: wOw!
Review: Wow I didn't know all that stuff about Sel until I went to the movie she really have a cool life I wish that sometimes I was her friend next door.
The movie I just don't know what to say it was out of this world and I am glad I have the movie because I have every word of that movie I know by heart. It really didn't take me that long to know the words. I guess I'm a true Sel fan.
To all the people who say the movie and isn't a fan yet go buy all of her music and then what the movie over and over.
The woman work it until her death and we her fans should be pround of her for doing what she love and that was making music.

Summary: if only they would have waited
Review: I mean really, so soon after her death? Why not have waited at least maybe fifteen, twenty years from now to make a really good film instead of this mushy, glorifying film of the life of Selena. Okay, granted, Selena can sing. But this was just too sweet and too candy for my taste. I wanted a real film with some real meat on all the characters. BUT NOOO...instead we get cardboard characters who spend the entire time calling Selena's name over, and over, and over, and worse what really made me almost vomit was the look of worship on everybody face when they looked at Selena through the entire film. Excuse me, but wasn't she or wasn't she human. Didn't she have a hard life along with her family? That was what I was lead to believe.? Why did we get only five minutes of hardship and bam!!! The next minute she is all ready famous and everybody loves her. I don't remember that. I remember going to Quinceneras all my teenage life and hearing her music and never knowing who she was until her hit "Carcacha". And I was like what?...six-teen, seven-teen years old. Trust me, I was not a big fan then. Sure I liked one or two songs but it was not until "Si Una Vez", that I really became a fan of hers. Now that was a song I really liked. So, what I really wanted to say, is this film should not have been made so soon. Oh and Jennifer Lopez did a decent job on her portrayel of Selena. At least she got laugh right.

Summary: Great Movie!
Review: This DVD surprised me a whole lot! The first time I played it I was amazed at how sharp and clear the picture was compared to my VHS version of the movie. The sound is so much better also. It was like watching the movie for the first time all over again! Even though it lacks in special features it's still a good movie to own. Hey you never know! They might soon come out with a Selena Special Edition, Selena The Collectors Edition, or maybe even Selena The Ultimate Edition! That would be cool! The movie is great! 5 stars! -nate-
