Rating: Summary: The best Scrooge movie ever finally on DVD! Review: I've watched this movie every year since as far back as I remember. I've seen many versions of this story but this one remains the best. My family has gone through 3 or 4 VHS editions of this movie over the past 20 years and now it is finally on DVD. I can't wait to see it in widescreen for the first time.
Rating: Summary: Thank You Very Much Review: This is really a very good movie. The performance by the cast is first rate especially that of Albert Finney. The sets are great but the best part is the music. Father Christmas, December the 25th,I Like Life and Thank you Very Much are very very good and performed very well. This is one of my favorite Christmas moviesgbark
Rating: Summary: The Best Christmas Carol Version Review: Okay. Lets get something straight right from the beginning: the reviewer who said that the songs aren't even really that good is well.....dead wrong!! They are great. I started watching this as a teenager, and it is the best 'get in the mood for Christmas' movie. I have been looking for this for years as a DVD and am elated that is is finally here. Get this DVD. It's wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Scrooge- starring Albert Finney Review: THANK YOU AMAZON.COM!! I ordered Scrooge-starring Albert Finney, you made my day! I've been so disappointed that the musical hasn't aired for the last 3 years, now I can enjoy it throughout the holiday season. I remember watching it when it first came out and I so enjoyed it. This version of Scooge is the most heart warming and funniest ever made-it's truly a classic...Thank you Amazon...Merry Christmas from Wyoming!!
Rating: Summary: Remarkable and entertaining Scrooge Review: I purchased the vhs version about five years ago. In my opinion and my family members opinion it should be considered a Christmas classic. We watch it every christmas hoilday season and have never become tired watching it. I would highly recommend this film.
Rating: Summary: A Turn Of The Scrooge Review: There are three versions of a Christmas Carol that are essential. First is the 1951 version with Alister Sim, second is the 1984 version with George C. Scott, third is this version. What I love about this one is it's overall British feel, great photography and lighting, and some of that great Christmas cheer. The songs in it are decent enough for a musical, but it's no Chicago. It's not as "heavy" as the other two versions, but I still believe it's one of the best. My advise, own all three!
Rating: Summary: The One and Only "Christmas Carol" for your family! Review: There is no competition: this is the one and only authentic cinematic recreation of Dickens' classic holiday tale. Albert Finney turns in a (no lie) Oscar Worthy performance as the decrepit old miser, fooling your eyes and ears into believing he is in his 70s, despite the fact that Finney was a young man when he filmed the movie! The late Sir Alec Guinness is brilliant as Jacob Marley, flexing his thespian muscles and showing you what a true lover of the acting craft can create when given a script with more substance than a George Lucas screenplay. The dialogue is most often taken straight from the text of the book, and even the most avid "musical haters" can't deny the wit and charm of the songs that decorate this Christmas-must-see. The sets are astounding, the actors are brilliant, the score is classic, and the message will teach anyone the True Meaning of Christmas. I've seen virtually every retelling of A Christmas Carol, and this is far and away the most accurate and most enjoyable. For my family, there is absolutely no substitute. It's just not Christmas if we're not marching around the tree singing "Thank You Very Much". It is truly an instant classic for young and old! (although take heed of the warnings of the ghostly images. I was a senior in high school before I could watch it without having nightmares!)
Rating: Summary: They say Happiness is whatever you want it to be.... Review: Happiness for me is finally having this movie out on dvd. This is absolutely the BEST. Albert Finney is simply captivating in this role, and was born to play Scrooge. Sir Alec Guiness is brilliant as Jacob Marley I know people love him as Obi Wan Kanobi but you must see him in this role!!! The entire cast is great, the sets are exquisite, the songs are memorable ( I especially love Happiness and December the 25th at Fezziwig's party the dancing looks like so much fun!!) I remember watching this for the first time when I was around 8 with my dad & was a bit frightened by the phantoms that scrooge & marley fly thru and the ghost of christmas yet to come, so for parents that have children that might get scared I recommend to watch it first to make sure. I am a girl of 35 now so I dont have to cover my eyes anymore. My family has made this a tradition to watch year after year and I am so grateful to have those memories. I am a new mom now and can't wait until I can share this movie with my son when he is old enough. You don't want to miss this movie, see it with family and friends to create wonderful memories.
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: Tom Keogh has been sunk in too many old, tired Christmas songs. While this effort dates back to 1970, these are some of Brisucces' best tunes and, by testament, many still hold a special place in many hearts. While overseas, I was having Christmas dinner at a friend's house and Scrooge came on Belgian television in English. By the end I was in tears. Embarassed, of course, but profoundly moved. All of the reviews I have read are by folks who were as taken by this picture as I was. I will not re-hash what has been said by other reviewers of this marvelous picture, other than to say that at the time I saw this movie, I never forgot ANY of the music. And later, when in a rock 'n' roll band, our group always finished the show after the last encore with one, last, rousing a-capella chorus of Thank You Very Much, That's The Nicest Thing Anyone's Ever Done For Me. At the final harmonic punch of the final word, "MUCH!", the place always went nuts. At that point, in my head, I always heard the words, "They say happiness......". Thank you very much, indeed.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST SCROOGE EVER!!!! Review: This is by far the best Scrooge EVER with songs my family and I have remembered and sung every year since 1970. It is simply wonderful - imagine Alec Guinness, Albert Finney and countless other legends onscreen all at once - the special effects alone to make Finney seem old when he was only in his late 30s making this movie are astounding. My niece and nephew, 9 and 11, both love this movie too.it's fantastic, and the songs are incredible - especially "I Hate People" - I learned half my SAT words from this song. See this!!
