Rating: Summary: great x-mas movie! Review: this is a classic. the songs are great as well. people who complain about bad songs not put together well in this movie should go see a broadway musical in new york.
Rating: Summary: A Christmas NECESSITY Review: This is the version of A Christmas Carol I grew up with, and it is still my favorite of them all. I actually disagree with a lot of the critics when it comes to the music - in my opinion, the music is PERFECT! The musical numbers completely set the tone for the scenes in which they are in; some grim, some happy, some sad. When Ebenezer quietly sings about his failed relationship with isabelle, you can feel the longing with which he remembers. The music, the direction, the acting, and the set design all complement each other to acheive what is still my all time favorite holiday movie (right alongside "It's a Wonderful Life", of course...).
Rating: Summary: Scrooge Review: This is, to our family, not only a hoiday tradition but the best "Christmas Carol" there is..we watch it every Christmas Eve singing to the songs, (my son a couple of years ago (aged 3 at the time) danced across the house singing "Thank You Very Much" for days and days). No Christmas would be complete without this movie!
Rating: Summary: My twocents Review: I don't rate anything 5 stars because I feel there is always room for improvement. But I do disagree ,also with the negative reviews. I beleieve this is one of the best classic, and I do believe it is, made. I'll have to say that when I first saw it on TV, I didn't like it much. But that was many years ago. I don't think the reviewers watched the whole thing. I believe the sets are realistic. Dusty and dank. Not much running water, Pledge, or Comet in those days. I think the reference to the date 1860 is quaint. Putting it in about the time frame of when Dickens' wrote the original. The sign on the side of Scrooges office, referring to what they delt in, as far as trading commidites, is also interesting. I think Beautiful Morning/Day is a wonderful song. I always wondered if the back ground music was written after the main track. My wife bought me this video a couple of years ago and I would reccomend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: You've got to be kidding.... Review: This was the silliest thing I've ever seen! Come on, a SINGING Marley? This was as bad as the Mr Magoo Christmas Carol I remember seeing as a kid. I pulled up the reviews to get a chuckle with other folks and was very surprised to see all the 5 star ratings.
Rating: Summary: Whhaaat? Review: I was shocked to read the negative reviews of this film! This version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol deserves an A+ for getting you into the holiday mood. The music is wonderful and the scenes of hell and of Scrooge buying Christmas gifts are priceless. I really love the scenes from hell (usually cut out during television airings.) I would especially recommend this to people who are not impressed by the typical Hollywood box office blowouts--people who enjoy putting a little thought into what they are watching and want to really get something out of their film-viewing experience. This is definitely the darkest, scariest and most grimm Scrooge ever. Also, I don't know about the DVD but the Laser Disc version of this film has a wonderful extra music section at the beginning. "Thank you very much!"
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful Review: Nothing puts me in the Christmas spirit better than watching this spirit lifting musical. No matter how bad a mood I am in after this movie I want to dance up and down my street with joy and love for life. Especially the very end with the closing "Thank You Very Much", just makes me want to dance and laugh untill i am all out of breath. I guarentee this to put whoever watches it in the christmas spirit..... even Scrooge!
Rating: Summary: A Christmas Tradition Forever..."Thank You Very Much!" Review: Albert Finneys "Scrooge" is by far the best Holiday Classic. There will never be another one like it. For the past 17 years this movie has been a traditon of mine and now my own families. Albert Finney is wonderful and no one has been able to play the part of Scrooge as he did. I will watch it 2-3 times during the holidays. Despite what the critics have said, i think the music is wonderful. My wife and I will even listen to the music playing from the tape while putting up our decorations. This leads me to ask is there a soundtrack available? If so, could someone please let me know how to get a hold of it. I've had no luck locating one. This is a movie that is very special to me and will be passed down and enjoyed with my new born son. The joy that this film brings is one that all should take in during the holidays. Merry Christmas and from the words of Tiny Tim..."God Bless Us Everyone".

Rating: Summary: Excellent Emotional Rendition of a Classic Tale Review: Dicken's classic tale, which has been portryed in numerous productions, comes alive for me in this movie. No other version is able to capture the emotion of the story the way that this one does, especially in the ending, which is particularly well done. No matter how many times it is watched, this one will bring a tear to your eye in the last scene. It is the authenticity of both the characters and their surroundings, British actors in an excellent replication of Victorian England, which distinguishes this movie from the others. The characters and thier situations are well-developed and believable. I highly reccomend it.
