Review: This is a fantastic evening of music. Just enjoy and relax and listen to a fantastic orchestra playing a classic score and a cast of international stars singing their way through this spectacular production lead by Colom Wilkinson and Ruthie Henshall and Phillip Quast.

Summary: RUTHIE HENSHALL!
Review: My sister actually got this video back in October, for her birthday, but I didn't see it until January. I must say that my favorite performer in the entire world is Ruthie Henshall. I first heard her as Roxie Hart in "Chicago," so when I learned that she was Fantine, I was interested to see how she'd make the transition, since those roles are complete opposites. I was stunned by Ruthie's INCREDIBLE versatility and beautiful, flawless performance, although I shouldn't have been so surprised since every note that I've heard her sing EVER has been nothing but perfect. She simply WAS Fantine, and the best female singer in the video. (Not to mention my favorite, but you already know that.) Other great performers were Philip Quast and Judy Kuhn, especially. Philip is a wonderful Javert, and Judy sings the difficult role of Cosette very nicely. Lea Salonga as Eponine and Colm Wilkinson as Valjean were also good, although Colm's lips seem to trip up his voice. (Okay, I know that sounds very peculiar, but it's true! I'm sorry!) Lea was a good Eponine, and I like her better than Frances Ruffelle, who seems almost out of place in the role. The actors who portrayed the Thernardiers were absolutely wonderful, and Hannah Chick, as young Cosette, was very lovely. Michael Ball as Marius was great. He has a wonderful voice and a great acting ability, but he seems to overact just a little at times. But hey-- overall, the show was incredible. I maintain my view that RUTHIE HENSHALL is a goddess. I cannot imagine a better Fantine. This video was really impressive and very enjoyable. I am so glad to own this, because as everyone knows, Les Mis is one of the best musicals of all time.

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: Being a broadway buff and performer, I seem to critique performances - concert and actual stage -with very high standards. This version in concert was by far the best I've ever seen it performed. Although I was not at the concert, I have seen it performed in London, New York, and Los Angeles, and after buying and watching the video I would have traded all the times I've seen it on stage, to see that one performance at the Royal Albert Hall. It was literally the DREAM CAST, Les Mis has ever seen. Colm Wilkinson's performance of Jean Valjean was stirring with the perfect mix of masculine verboseness and soulful rendition. I don't believe there is a better Javert than Philip Quast. He has an amazing stage presence in the character that instills fear and at his "defeat" instills compassion. Many don't comment on the performances of the Thenardier and Mme Thenardier. Alun Armstrong and Jenny Galloway respectively, are essential in these roles. They are so convincing in their portrayals it's sometimes difficult to see that without the dirty make-up and ragged clothes they are just like you and me. Some colleagues have claimed that Lea Salonga's voice is a little nasal, but I have to differ on that thought. Her portrayal of Eponine is beautiful in it's sincerity and her performance with Michael Ball in "A Little Fall of Rain" always chokes me up a bit. I was very pleased to see her in this concert. Michael Ball is my favorite Marius! If Michael Ball is Marius I do not blame Eponine and Cosette for falling deeply in love with him. His voice is bewitchingly true and rich. Each solo deserves undivided attention. I loved the concert so much I immediately bought the CD set. I recommend this for all you other broadway buffs out there, or those who have never seen a musical prior. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Stellar performances make this spectacular video a must-have
Review: The powerful cast of Les Miserables' 10th Annivesary Concert delivers every bit of promise that its ambitious "The Dream Cast" subtitle makes. Colm Wilkinson reprises his most famous role and gives a distilled performance. His Valjean is now more thoughtful, more cerebral and internal than during his London and Broadway days. Philip Quast is simply astounding as Javert. The highly-inflected style of Ruthie Henshall in her portrayal of Fantine might not be to every one's taste; however, this variation from the generally well-enunciating cast offers a subtle -- and beautiful -- texture to the entire show. Lea Salonga shines as the street-wise Eponine. Her voice rings with clear timbre, and her interpretation is certainly novel: gone is the overtly love-sick Rufellesque Eponine, what one gets here is the voice of an angry teen who bites back at the pangs of unrequited love. The rest of the supporting cast, the hundreds strong choir that backs up the actors, and the lively audience makes for a very memorable experience indeed.

Summary: I dreamed a dream... and it came true after I saw this video
Review: It is so rare that you get the opportunity to see some of the worlds best prefromers in their best roles ever, let alone in one show. This performance is quailty and yet it doesn't spoil the musical for those who haven't seen it. It's more of a concert than it is a musical, but it is spectacular! This is a must buy! There are few words to describe it, but I loved it so much I bought the CD too! Enjoy!

Summary: No wonder. It's No.1!
Review: This is the best concert I've never seen. I've been to the theater on Broadway in New York to see the actual musical. The performance of the 10th anniversary concert is far better than I imagine. Spectacular! I bought the videotape in 1997 but I lost it recently. Of course I've already bought it again today. Lea Salonga's Eponine was the first interpretation of that character I'd heard, so naturally I was so touched by her voice. Her "On My Own" is nothing like I've ever heard before, she's got the most beautiful voice in the world. So nice... CD is also available for this wonderful performance. This CD version is by far the best of all the Les Mis recordings. Check the following for the CD: "Les Miserables - The Musical That Swept The World: A Concert At Royal Albert Hall (10th Anniversary Performance). Super! I hereby highly recommend them (VHS and CDs) from the bottom of my heart!

Summary: Outstanding music!
Review: This was a wonderful video! I had never seen or heard any music from this show before and I was just blown away. Lea Salonga shines and the finale at the end is just incredible. The story line was a bit hard to follow but other than that, an overall hit!

Summary: Great play and performance, but poor DVD quality
Review: I would have to give the VHS version of this 5 stars, it's actually better quality than the DVD version. The only thing good about the DVD is that you can jump to the song you'd like. I'm guessing it was the transfer that was screwed up. One particular camera had vertical lines that could be made out on a dark background. The sound quality also was fairly poor, as there was noticable clipping on some of the tunes.

Review: i was amazed that victor hugo's book could be brought to life through music. it was vividly portrayed on stage through the artistry of colm wilkinson. thoroughly amazing and enjoyable. i say bravo!

Summary: Simply put, WOW
Review: First things first, let me make something abundantly clear: This is NOT a video of the musical! It is instead a video of people standing in front of microphones singing the (almost entire) soundtrack to the musical. If you're looking for incredible scenery, you'd probably have better luck seeing the show. Now that that's taken care of, this video is one of the most incredible things that I have ever seen. Instead of taking the cast members of a single city or tour, this is a 'best of the best' selection, so every part is simply incredible. Especially of note are Phillip Quast as Javert and Eponine (forgive me, I can't remember who sang her part). I found it well worth the expense
