Summary: Best movie I've seen this year.
Review: Surprisingly, I loved Moulin Rouge. It was one of those rare films that exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. I'll admit I didn't expect much, as I'm not a big fan of musicals or Ewan McG. And had I known the Romeo and Juliet guy made it, I probably never would have watched it.I know the love story is incredibly formulaic, but the movie is visually and aurally stunning enough to make the whole experience a load of fun. From the opening seconds with the conductor guy flailing around to the old reliable 20th Century Fox theme, I immediatley began to get into the spirit and as a result, enjoyed the the show immensely. I've been humming those cheesy pop love songs for weeks. Great DVD. I've been playing this thing over and over again. It really shows off the format, with excellent, immersive sound and dramatic colors. The soundtrack is so much fun you'll be playing this thing louder and louder each time you watch. See Moulin Rouge with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Wonderful entertainment
Review: I am definitely in the love-this-movie category. It hooked me right away from the magical introduction. I wasn't however attracted to the movie by the trailers. This is not a movie that any kind of trailer, or snapshot of scenes, can accurately convey. You really have to watch it. It has far far too many things in it to be described in a single word - almost like a Christmas stocking filled with wonderful unexpected surprises, it fills you with delight and amazement to go through it. It has been criticised for being a triumph of style over substance. I feel this misses the point. Musicals have always been about conveying emotion and entertainment through song and dance, not about delving into serious issues or the human condition. What kind of substance does the BandWagon, Singing in the Rain, The King and I, have? The frantic choppy editing has been criticised but I think the point of the editing was to induce in the viewer that feeling of being overwhelmed when you step into something bizarre. Yes, it is nausea inducing but it's intended to create that precise effect because that was what being in the Moulin Rouge for the first time felt like for Christian, and we see the Moulin Rouge from his perspective. Yes, it's a pity the dance routines were so cut up that we couldn't see more than a blur of images, but that's what Christian felt like when he was in the Moulin Rouge, that was the whole point. He was overwhelmed by it all. They could have shown a blow by blow account of the dance routine, but that would only have served to show off the dance moves, and not the story as experienced through the eyes of the character. Tremendously enjoyable, unusual, unexpected and original. I've watched many movies, but few that I can recall enjoying or wanting to see repeatedly as much as this one. My one regret? That I will never again be able to see it for the first time.

Review: Moulin Rouge is the best movie I have ever seen! It has been so long since I have been moved by a movie. Ewan and Nicole made a beautiful couple. It was like watching a Disney movie (only it wasn't cartoon, and it was about sex).

Summary: Moulin Rouge!
Review: Take a trip to the Moulin Rouge. This film dares you. I went into this movie with high expectations because of all the hype. all I can say is, the film is remarkable. The music electrifies, the heat between Nicole Kidmanan and Ewan Mcgregor is smoldering, and the sets are dazzling. all this combined makes Moulin Rouge the best film of 2001. The film won Golden Globes for Best Actress (Nicole Kidman) Best Original Score, and Best Picture (Musical or Comedy.) While there are no original songs (except for the Kidman/Mcgregor duet "Come What May") the music is still intense. Especially Kidman swinging on a giant trapeze at the Moulin Rouge crooning "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend/Material Girl." You'll never look at the song "Like A Virgin" the same way ever again! All in all, a fantastic film that should win the Best Picture Oscar! Baz Luhrman did a fantastic job!
A penniless writer named Christian (Ewan Mcgregor) is trying to get a production he writing put on at the infamous Moulin Rouge. Nightclub singer Satine (Nicole Kidman) wants to appear in a production and become a real actress. The Duke is considering putting on a show at the Moulin Rouge where Satine works. They just need a signed deed from the duke to put the show on. Satine, confusing Christian for the duke tries to seduce him. The Duke agrees to let Christian write the production, and let Satine star in it on one condition: Satine belongs to the Duke exclusively. Satine and Christian fall deep in love and are inseparable. But they are breaking the one rule of the Moulin Rouge. That is, NEVER fall in love.... Overall Grade: A+ (10++++)

Review: Hey eveyone, what are you doing out there? come and see this moviw. on DVD! it's the best movie created. before, when people ask me what my favorite movie is, i would say, i don't know. but now, i'll sy, MOULIN ROUGE!. everything here is good. even though it owon 3 gloden globes awards, and a beautiful mind won 4, which is fairly reasonable, 'cause it's also a good, 5-star film, but not as good as MOULIN ROUGE! acting was very great, camera angle was excellent, lighting was amazing in some place, and average on other, and the theme of the story, love---was the best. hope it'll get to oscars. ithought the director and music composer were very cool, and they have tellent. and mcgregor, cool, handsome. kidman, beautiful, pretty, attractive, very nice. the song track was good too, buy the sound track and this dvd.

Review: Wow! This movie just makes your head spin. It is amazing how the music was put together, the dancing is outragous and even though the love story has been told again and again, who could ever get tired of it. Wouldn't we all love to have that one person that loves us "til the end of time". It's fun, it's entertaining, it keeps you guessing to see if it can get any more outragious than it already has been...

Review: This movie is a travesty. I am sure those who liked it were either stoned or bribed. I think to really appreciate this movie you need to have 75% of of your brain removed. It is camp, cliched and unimaginative. I will never watch a movie by Baz Luhrmann again.

Summary: Poke me in the eye with a sharp stick!!
Review: That would be more fun than watching this one. Get it over with quick so we can get on with our lives. This film was awful. I endured about 30 minutes of it. If there was an actual story, I was unable to detect it. The first 10 minutes were so confusing, I was wondering what we were actually watching.... My wife didn't even like it. I was actually done with it at about 20 minutes. I endured an additional 10 minutes out of respect for her. She finally looked at me and said she was glad we didn't see it at the theatre. (Me Too) If you have to spend the money, nearly any other movie would be a better buy.

Summary: Forced and insulting
Review: This movie is so forced, trying to be camp, that it really is manipulative and insulting. Who wants to listen to people read Madonna lyrics to each other? The "Warner Brothers meets Rocky Horror" musical numbers are inane. Don't bother, and don't believe the awestruck reviews. This movie has beautiful cinmatography slapped over a seething bit of nuclear waste for a script and for music. The funniest thing about this movie is that, apparently, the director takes it all seriously. Sheesh!

Review: Oh this movie was horrible! I 100% agree with Dr. Ravna (see review below)--this movie was awful, awful, awful. Even though I was impressed with the vocal talent of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, I don't know how anybody liked it, and I do not understand how it possibly won the awards it has. I only know one person who liked it (and more because she's a fan of Nicole Kidman and Christina Aguilera who sang the title track along with 3 others) but everyone else that I know, ranging from children to professionals detested this despicible waste of time, money, and effort. In short, it's much to glitzy, fake, uncomfortable, awkward, unwatchable, and unbearable. I don't care if the whole world disagrees with me--I will never subject myself to this cinematic atrocity again!
