Review: Musical lovers rejoice! This movie is incredible. Baz Luhrman did a fantastic job with stunning visuals and incredible songs! The actors (Ewan Mcgregor and Nicole Kidman) really pull this one off. While it could have come off hokey, it is actually brilliant. A tragic love story that will pull at your heart. The songs, dialogue, and visuals will astound you! A real work of art! Five stars, two thumbs up!

Review: as i was disgusted (!) by this movie as i saw the previews, and avoided it, i finally decided to rent it, to see how right i was.
well, it [was bad]! but there is one good thing about it: SOUND!!!
if you have a good home theater system, youre in for a ride!
the sound quality is amazing, the film is fast and full of, well, intresting tracks.
worth the 2$ rent.

Summary: Who here likes shiny objects and flashy lights?
Review: It is rare that I walk out of a film. It is rare that I feel so strongly about a film that it wrecks my day, and I want my two hours back. This film, admittedly, is quite stunning visually, and were it not for the infuriating music, I probably would have been neutral about it. Moulin Rouge's music is the ultimate train wreck of musical styles. I see nothing adventurous about smashing "voulez vous couchez avec moi" together with "Smells Like Teen Spirit." All I see is two good songs torn out of their respective contexts and sloshed on a screen with enough glitter to cover the fact that this is a union made in Hell. Does anyone have that annoying friend who quotes song lyrics instead of speaking to you? This movie does it from one end to the other. Once is funny. Twice is trite. Three times is beating a dead horse. An entire film's worth is an aneurysm waiting to burst.
Midway through the film there is a scene in which MacGregor's and Kidman's characters try to snow a potential financier by throwing all kinds of flash trash in his face in order to keep him from realizing that there was nothing behind it. It seemed a microcosm of the entire film: engineered to feature lots of shiny to keep the audience from realizing that this movie had no legs to stand on.Do I really have to give it a star at all?

Summary: Quick Mind and Appreciation for Music
Review: This movie rocked! It takes the classics of years gone by and todays music and mingles them all into one. Nicole Kidman has a beautiful voice and when you combine it with Ewan McGregor it's breadth taking. The movie moves very fast and is well worth it.

Summary: So Different! So Dazzling!
Review: Right from the beginning, you know you're in for something very, very different. The fast flashing sequence of vivid colors and powerful music was so stunning, it made me wonder if I'd be able to keep up for next 2 hours. Fortunately, the movie didn't take long to draw me in completely. All the colors and music nicely blends into one kaleidoscope of Moulin Rouge. From the skillful medley of popular love songs by artists like Beatles, U2, Whitney Houston and Madonna to original songs like Come What May and One Day I'll Fly Away, the music is whimsical, playful, intensely romantic, and powerfully emotional. Nicole Kidman is simply amazing. Who knew she had such a beautiful voice? Ewan McGregor is perfectly charming as a romantic penniless writer. His soft handsome voice takes Elton John's Your Song to another level. An absolute must see.

Summary: A feast for the senses
Review: This film takes risks that mostly pay off. Its stunning delights of sight and sound sometimes border on the fantastic but do not reach tiresome absurdity. Enough plot to bring the cacophony together in a touching (if cliche) romance. I recommend you check out this film and, if you enjoy the change from Hollywood's usual fair, rent the director's Romeo+Juliet.

Summary: THE Movie of 2001...Highly Recommended
Review: Obviously, the people who listed the negative reviews did not give the movie enough time. This was a spectacular movie, including a great soundtrack, and superb acting. The music was inventive and captivating, and I was surprised that both Nicole and Ewan had such remarkable voices. I believe that the movie, actress, actor and director all deserve the amazing credit that they have been given. I am now on my 9th time watching this DVD, and am very happy with all the extras that come with it. For 2001, the movie industry has been blessed with a complete winner.

Summary: Original? NO... but then again...
Review: We saw this movie as PPV on DirecTV, and enjoyed it so much that we went out the very next day and purchased the DVD for ourselves. It's not for everyone: it is loud, obnoxious, and borders on ludicrous at times, but it has so many examples of brilliant acting and clever combinations of lines, effects, costumes, lyrics, music, camera angles and so on that you owe it to yourself to at least try it. We felt that it did a wonderful job of bringing some of the best characteristics of great stage and theatre to the screen - stuff to make you laugh, stuff to make you cry, stuff to let you feel a little bit good in a situation otherwise dominated with despair and sadness. The casting was excellent, and everyone rose to the challenge of bringing life to characters larger than life very nicely (Leguizamo as Toulouse Lautrec was particularly good, not to detract from Kidman and MacGregor). Rehashing songs from Elton John and Madonna and a host of other modern artists seemed bizarre at first, but we were delighted at how well it actually worked. The all-male "Like a Virgin" song and dance scene had us freaked out, but we had to admit that we were definitely enjoying ourselves despite our stunned disbelief (it's not gross, just weird). Word of caution: if you're 10 minutes into it and don't like it, you might as well bail. It seems like an all-or-nothing sort of thing: you love it, or you hate it. Count us firmly in the former group.

Review: I was a sceptic guy, thinking this movie would be bad when i sat down to watch it. Shockingly i was blown away by the Moulin Rouge. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman where phenominal. i am buying this DVD now. Plus the Added Music Video, The "Come What May" remix is awesome. All in All a great buy

Summary: B-b-but, he isn't wearing anything!
Review: Upon finally watching this movie, I felt like I was seeing the emperor's new clothes. I had heard all the hype, and was expecting at least an original, interesting experience. Alas, it was actually painful to watch. Aside from Nicole and Ewan, who were certainly troupers, and had better singing voices than I expected, the movie was just one long, noisy piece of self-indulgence for the director.
