Summary: TRULY BRILLANT!!!!!!!
Review: Yeah, I know I know -Another boring musical right? WRONG!!!! Moulin Rouge is a wonderful story filled with dancing, singing, unique songs, exquisite color and is anything but boring. Even if u don't have a love for muscials you will find this one to be very interesting as well as entertaining. Baz Luhrman's passion and dedication in making this film really paid off, after all he spent about 9 months working on it!!!! This film has wonderful special effects along with a blend of songs that contain various comtemperary love songs mixed with a classical sound in the background. It is an absolutely wonderful soundtrack that you will want to hear again and again. The movie has everything that makes a film interesting-AMBITION, PASSION, GRIEF, OBESESSION, COMEDY, GOOD MUSIC, DANCING, AND MOST OF ALL TRUE LOVE!!!!!!!! Indeed it is a tragic love story between a cortesan and a poor writer. I guess I didn't like the tragic part but when you see tradegy in a love story it really makes the audience feel the story more intensely. Nicole Kidman must've worked her tush off with this one because she dances, sings and wears high heels along with wearing bone crushing corsets for 9 months!!!! Ewan McGregor will take your breath away with his incredible good looks, singing and charisma. He is a wonderful leading man. The rest of the cast is superb. What also makes this film interesting is that you can learn alot about Parisian life in the 1900's along with a real life character Tolouse Lautrec. In other words it has a little bit of history. Don't miss this film. SEE IT!!!

Summary: A Movie That Booms With Energy!
Review: Moulin Rouge is a spectacular film that redefines the "hollywood" musical. Most of the songs are updated versions from some of the best artists of our time like Sting, Elton John, and Madonna.
When I first saw Moulin Rouge it wasn't what I expected at all. The first few scenes are hyper and strange, but in a good way, its fun to watch. But then, when Ewan McGregor goes to the Moulin Rouge to meet Nicole Kidman and breaks into that first note of "Your Song", I found myself under the movie's spell. That scene still gives me chills. haha
Anyways, it will probably be a movie that you will either love or hate. Its so different from any film out there, but I think thats what makes it so magical. Its daring, different, and totally redefines "musical". Its definitely worth seeing once so you can decide for yourself. You be the judge.
The DVD is absolutely jammed-pack with a ton of extra features on it, which I haven't even gone through all of them yet. I have not seen a DVD so thorough to this date.
This movie and DVD will definitely become a classic!

Summary: THERE'S A FAIRY AT THE BOTTOM OF ............. ?
Review: FOLKS! This is DVD at it's best! A two parter - first the movie, the the additional bits and pieces, and it's everything you've ever asked for - IF you like this approach to spectacular entertainment, it's absolutely not for Auntie Maud and Uncle Fred.

Miss Kidman, quite glorious, strongly reminds one of Rita Hayworth - perhaps Moira Shearer, Ewan McGregor - equally grand as the innocent in Paris - and Jim Broadbent! Costumes, sets, sound design, make-up - casting - all perfect!

Much applause to BAZ LUHRMANN for giving us this unforgettable entertainment - and that's what it's all about - entertainment. No need to muse, discuss or fret about this product - it's well worth its weight in platinum - give or take a diamond or two ......

More Mr. Baz - give us more!

As for the fairy? Wouldn't be the same if not for this deluxe DVD with a splash of Absente, medicinal of course - just for inspiration and mood.

Summary: Spectacular, Spectacular!
Review: One of the most unique films in recent history, MOULIN ROUGE has successfully divided its viewers into detractors and supporters. How can you describe the film?

1. Take a boy meets girl musical from the 50s.
2. Put it I a blender with 10 years of MTV style editing.
3. Mix in a generous amount of Pop music over the decades.
4. Add a touch of PRETTY WOMAN.
5. Puree.

Okay, it's not the simple. Whatever the recipe, the screen is filled with mind-numbing information at 3 to 5 second intervals. This quick editing style is what divides the audience. But, if truth is involved, the human brain registers information much quicker than we give it credit for. And Director Baz Luhrmann of WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO AND JULIET (and his crew of 7 editors) deserves acknowledgement for seeing the spectacular vision through to the very end.

Ewan McGregor (THE PHANTOM MENACE) is the innocent Christian who is quickly entangled with the Bohemian's surrounding the MOULIN ROUGE. Through them he meets the doomed love of his life, Satine played by the glorious Nicole Kidman (THE OTHERS). Against all logic, they enter into a relationship that threatens the success of the Moulin Rouge, which pays their bills.

This DVD allows you to explore deep into the filmmaking process. All you have to do is follow the Green Fairy. Inside is one of the most ambitious, generous behind the scenes explorations. This DVD set is itself a film workshop.

When the poet Christian improvises a new work (Sounding quite like Elton John's YOUR SONG), the film really takes off. Especially when he and Satine dance on the rooftops of all of Paris, swinging on the Eiffel Tower with the moon offering an operatic counter-melody. This vision and the production design are truly spectacular.

How wonderful life is when you're in the world.

Summary: An Outstanding Cinematic Achievment
Review: This movie, wonderfully directed by Baz Luhrmann, is witty, fun, and suspenceful. It is full of song and dance, romance and drama, and is arguably of one the best movies of 2001. The dance choreography was designed beautifully and the innovation of mixing more contemporary music with a turn of the century period piece was pure genius.

The casting was great. Kidman (Satiine) and McGregor (Christian) are perfect for the parts. Kidman pulls off her part nicely, while McGregor is simply outstanding. Further, McGregor gives probably the best rendition ever of Elton John's "Your Song."

This movie is a standout in a year full of poor quality films. The colors and images are spectacular to say the least. The title Moulin Rouge is really just a pretext to develop a romantic love story full of song and dance, not to mention a little suspence.

The DVD is full of extras. The features are also fun and enjoyable. The boxed DVD is colorful and this expierence makes buying a DVD fun. This movie is ideally set for the big screen, but is so well made, that watching it on TV is also fun.

Maybe the genre of musicals is back, or maybe not; however, no matter, because this movie is pure fun regardless. And sometimes that exactly what a movie should be - fun!

Summary: It's A Frustrating Flick
Review: There were a couple of times during "Moulin Rouge" when I wanted to get up and walk out. There were a couple of other times when I was almost moved to tears. That's the kind of movie "Rouge" is. It throws you for a huge loop. Take Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman (eye and ear candy), throw in some pop, rock and dance music, and add broad brushstrokes of color and rich sound. That's "Moulin Rouge." It's beautiful, vibrant, annoying, cheesy, bombastic, ecstatic, and uplifting all at the same time. And for that, it's definitely worth the price of admission -- and DVD. It's like nothing you've ever seen, and it gets my vote for most original film of the decade.

Summary: An impotent attempt on originality
Review: My husband and I tried to watch this movie in a Montreal theater. Tried...because we couldn't endure more than 30 minutes of that mindless cacophony. We simply had to leave. It felt too much like watching commercials non-stop - no single scene lasted longer than three seconds. One can easily see similar parallels in the use of music. Acting?.. What acting?
