Summary: "The greatest thing is to love ... and be loved in return"
Review: Baz Luhrmann has incorporated so many levels of meaning into "Moulin Rouge" that it takes repeated viewings to catch it all and integrate it.

This is a movie that stays with you after the theatre, that makes you listen to the soundtrack over and over, that might even change your life.

Rarely is there a film that exposes the illusion of the material side of life and reminds us that all we really have to give in this world is our own selves,
and that truly "the greatest thing is to love ... and be loved in return" "come what may" ...

Summary: The best movie of 2001...and of the last 10 years
Review: I am absolutely in love with "Moulin Rouge." I have loved movies but I have not been IN love with a movie to this degree since I was two or three years old and I saw "The Wizard of Oz" for the first time. Much like "The Wizard of Oz," this is an incredibly magical movie. In fact, it is not just a movie, but an awe-inspiring experience of cinematic art the likes of which have never been seen before.
What is "Moulin Rouge"? It's a grand opera, a pop/rock spectacle, a heartbreaking love story, a dazzling fantasy of epic proportions, a dizzying ride through a mythical version of Paris. Blending every cinematic technique known to man, which are all then turned on their heads, Baz Luhrmann has created the best movie I have ever seen. After seeing "Romeo and Juliet" and "Strictly Ballroom," I thought the man had potential, but had not yet found the right story or movie to display his unique visual talents. After seeing "Moulin Rouge," I know he has finally become a great director.
And what of the actors? Ewan McGregor is perfect as the lovelorn, penniless poet, Christian. And he has a singing voice that will absolutely knock your socks off. And then there's Nicole...oh Nicole...what can I say about Nicole? This is without a doubt the best performance of her career thus far. She is funny, insane, bubbly, but also sad. And she herself proves to have an extremely sweet, beautiful voice herself. And the chemistry between the two is absolutely amazing. I have never truly believed two movie characters were in love as much as these two: their passion enflames the screen.
What would a great musical be without music? "Moulin Rouge" has plenty of that. It has an absolutely brilliant score, which uses over thirty modern-day pop and rock classics, and turns them into the stuff of opera and showtunes. Believe me, you will never hear songs such as "Like a Virgin," "Roxanne," or "Smells Like Teen Spirit" the same way ever again.
This movie has everything: an amazing story, perfect acting...and some of the most striking visual imagery I have ever seen in any movie. There are some moments of this film where my jaw just dropped. I can not describe how beautiful this film is. But, beyond the visual acrobatics, this movie has substance. It attempts to examine what being in love truly is, and it succeeds. I never cry at movies, but I cried at the end of this movie.
When I saw this movie in New York City during its limited release, before its countrywide release, I fell in love. The audience burst into applause at the end of each song, as if they were actually at a live musical or opera. At the end, the movie, the director, Nicole, and Ewan got a standing ovation. How often does a movie inspire that type of response? I would recommend that everybody buy, not rent, "Moulin Rouge." There are so many moments in this film you will want to watch over and over again.

Summary: this movie has it all
Review: The new Moulin Rouge has got everything that makes a movie entertaining and a joy to watch; it's funny, romantic, sad(take your tissues). All the people in it are people you like-even the "bad guy" is a fine/funny fellow. This is going to be-in spite of the bad press-a classic keeper that will be bought by the people who seem to be right about movies much more often than the "critics"who get it wrong so often that I wonder anyone ever pays any attention to them.I personally use them as a barometer;what they pan I go see, what they are esctatic about I shun. This is just another example of how wrong they can be.

Summary: Moulin Rouge is the best movie ever!
Review: When I first went to see this movie, I didn't know what to expect. I just went and saw it because I heard that the song, Lady Marmalade would be in it. The song isn't in the movie, but this is a wonderful story about true love, and how it will last forever. The story is about a poor writer, named Christian, who moves to France to be part of the Bohemian Revolution. He meets other writers there, and they write a play together called, "Spectacular, Spectacular." They don't have enough money to fund it though. So, they decide to go to the Moulin Rouge and try to convince the head stripper there, Satine, to convince the owner of the Moulin Rouge to fund money for the play.
That night, the men go to the club, and think they have arranged a private meeting with Satine. But, there is also a rich duke there that night who will pay a hefty sum to sleep with Satine that night. When the owner of the Moulin Rouge goes to show Satine the duke, he is hidden from view and instead she sees Christian, and thinks he is the duke. So, she takes him into the back room and tries to seduce him. He doesn't understand why she is seducing him though, since he went there to recite some lines from the play for her. He sings her a love song, and they fall in love.
That is just the beginning of the story, but I don't want to ruin it, but, it is really good. I would recommend it to anyone!

Summary: Moulon Rouge - a masterpiece
Review: Moulon Rouge is an absolute work of art from the cinamatography, to the costumes, to the acting, to the music and singing, to the story line. It is one of the best, if not THE BEST, film I have ever seen. It's got depths within depths. It is a work of art about art that incorporates past art into a web of the fantastical the beautiful and the haunting. Even if you only watch it for the surface level love story it is excellent, but if you look deeper into the underlying themes of the Bohemian revolution and it's ideals of artistry, truth, and love then this film becomes a masterpiece.

Summary: The best movie I've seen (or heard) in a long time
Review: Moulin Rouge was such a tremendously artistic, energetic, beautiful movie that I ran back to see it again as soon as I could. Its theme was refreshingly uncomplicated, a gorgeous movie about love and honesty. This movie dares to be idealistic when it's definately not in style to be. I must say that it was a welcome change of pace from the so-called "edgy" movies we've been seeing a lot of lately. This movie is also visually dazzling! There are so many colors, details to be seen, and dance numbers to be enjoyed that your eyes are never bored. The cinematography is very well done, blue light gently evokes the sadness of a lost love, red light for the madness of the Moulin Rouge. As for the music, Nicole Kidman has a pretty voice and handles the songs well. But Ewan McGregor just plain blew me away!! He's got such a gorgeous voice! I think he deserves praise for his fabulous acting as well. He's truly a gifted actor, and this is truly a wonderful movie.
