Rating: Summary: Amazing, engaging, and beautifully done! Review: Moulin Rouge! could be one of the best musicals ever made. It's sad, joyous, exciting, endearing, humorous, and engaging all at once-- there is so much to look at, one viewing is never enough. The music is positively wonderful and the acting is top-notch. Hurrah for the return of the musical!
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: I loved this movie! I have watched it at least a dozen times, and I am still not tired of it! Note: this movie is definitely a chick flick! I don't know a single guy who actually enjoys this movie thoroughly as most women who watch it do! However, I have known a few guys to sit through the movie. It is a great piece of work by Baz Luhrman (i'm not sure if that is spelled right).
Rating: Summary: MOULIN ROUGE Review: OH JESUS WHERE DO I START? i dont see how any male can enjoy this movie or let alone anyone. IT WAS LONG AS HELL and wasnt anything great.- a musical wow - why do people make such a big deal over this thing? nice costumes yea but come on - THE STORYLINE HERE IT IS FOR YA ( THE GREATEST THING IN LIFE IS TO BE LOVED ... SIMPLY TO BE LOVED. WOW WHAT A REVELATION- thats somthin new alright anyway i had MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE WWAY THEY USED NEW SONGS FROM THIS ERA TO PUT INTO THE OLD ERA - THAT WAS JUST WRONG. it [it was not good] big time - it was stupid and not apprealing and an insult to the bands of today. IT WAS SET IN THE OLD TIMES AND THEY USE NIRVANAS SMELL LIKE TEEN SPIRIT? AND MADONNA? COME ON THAT IS JUST DUMB - IT SOUNDED DUMB AND LOOKED DUMB. i cant beleive ewan mcgregor did this film. NICOLE KIDMAN LOOKED ABSOLUTLY RIDICULOUS IN THIS ROLE DANCING - IT MADE HER LOOK UNATRACTIVE AND THAT LIL GUY FROM ROMEO AND JULIET i forget his name well he was annoying as can be. I SUGGEST U SKIP THIS - U MIGHT NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE WHOLE THING WITHOUT TEARIN UR HAIR OUT FROM BOREDOM.THANK U HAVE A GOOD DAY.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies out there! Review: Moulin Rouge, what a fantastic movie. It was wonderful from start to finish. Everything about this movie is great. The actors are fabulous. Ewan Mcgregor, when he started to sing 'Your Song' it's enough to make you weak in the knees. He has a beautiful voice and should consider doing more musicals. Nicole Kidman, this is one of her best performances yet. She is so beautiful in this movie. And her singing voice, wow! I can't see why Moulin Rouge was so overlooked at last years Oscars when this year Chicago took almost every award it was nominated for. But anyway, Moulin Rouge is one of the best movies around right now and I highly recomend it. The dvd is worth every cent. It's filled with extras and some scenes cut from the film. Moulin Rouge is an A+++ in my book!
Rating: Summary: Martmite in a movie Review: This movie is like marmite - you either love it or hate it! There is one thing though - I guarantee you'll never forget it. Count me in as one of those who loved it, as I got whisked away in the magic of this movie. I sat there for two hours in complete awe whilst watching the extravagant world of Moulin Rouge, as the genius of Baz Luhrman shone through. You can never mistake Baz Luhrman's work, as his ideas of using historical movies with a contempary twist always captivates the audience. I sat there thinking 'I've never seen anything like this!'. Especially when you see a prositute and a bohemiam poet start singing Pride in an elephant. The idea of using the infamous night club as the set of this movie is very interesting and worked like a storm. I can't belive we can be carried through such huge ranges of emotions in such a short period of time like this - from comedy, to love, to intense drama - it's completely intriguing. I thought all performances were fantastic and shows Nicole Kidman's versatility. I also think the special features gave a much needed and fasinating insight to the movie, and it made my view of the movie slightly different. After having watched it 11 times I am still not sick of it - and I seem to discover something new everytime. This film is the most exciting thing I have ever seen in cinema, and I don't think any other film will pitch the post to my favourite.
Rating: Summary: Breathing New Life into the Genre Review: This is definitely one of my favorite movies. I am a musical fanatic, and this movie certainly filled my appetite and then some. It is a very different style, and some people are unwilling to break their usual set up mode for movies to be able to sit through and watch the film. I personally find Baz to be a genius, a man who is certainly willing to break all conventions and do something different. I think it is because of this movie having breathed new life into the musical movie genre and its overwhelming success opened the door way to allow movies such as the dazzling Chicago to step foot onto the stage. I think the fact that Baz had the actors do their own singing brings a more real and emotional quality to the film. The chemistry between McGregor and Kidman is perfect, and although the story itself may be a little cliché, it is a definite new way of presenting it to this age of movie goers. The costumes are fantastic and beautiful, as are all of the sets. Each time you watch the film you will find more little nuances that you didn't notice before hand. The second CD is also lots of fun, with plenty of easter eggs to hunt down. It is very interesting to see how this new age musical was filmed, and of course I love hearing the commentary of Baz. However, this movie is certainly a love it or leave it film - I rarely see people who just thought it was "okay". If you love romance stories or musicals for that matter, I highly recommend this dazzling movie. However I do suggest you rent before you buy so you can see which category you fall under.
Rating: Summary: Moulin Rouge (Special Edition) Review: I have to say first, My mom and dad saw the movie first , and they really didn't like it. I think it was because The music was more up to date like form David Bowie to " We can be heores", Also That Queen's song"The Show Must Go On". I have to say with all honestly ,I had to watch it on HBO more times then I can count. I fell in love with it. I had to go out and buy it. I have to rate this a 10. I love it!!!!! I bought the Special Edition Moulin Rouge DVD. Oh yes I didn't know that Nicole Kidman could sing, She made the movie worth watching, also Ewan McGregor was also A great singer The two of them just make the show. I just was she didn't die at the end! Melissa J. Lopez
Rating: Summary: MOULIN ROUGE-A Movie Of All Movies! Review: I believe Moulin Rouge was an incredible movie. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor did an amazing job and their voices are just magnificant. I enjoyed watching Moulin Rouge, the first, second, third, and fourth time i saw it. Moulin Rouge is definitely a movie you would like to see.
Rating: Summary: better to stroke your cat Review: Or pet your dog. Or go for a walk in the park. This film is atrociously bad. Why? It is unoriginal, obnoxious, heavy handed, unintelligent, bombastic and proud of it. What is good about it? It is exuberant, colorful and Nicole Kidman is attractive. But that's it. I will send a blast e-mail to my friends informing them that this is the worst film that I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it does not fall under the rubric of being so bad that it's good. Instead, this movie is so bad that it stinks. My epitaph could say that I was the "anti Moulin Rouge." If you truly believe that this is a 5-star movie I think you either have been suckered by those who heap unjustified praise on this or you simply have poor taste in film. This movie proves to me conclusively that Hollywood hype can dupe most people. I used to defend Joe Sixpack, saying that the Average American is often underestimated. And that the reason for that is due to an aggressive arrogance exhibited by the white collar crowd. Sadly, this film has made me conclude that most people are indeed sheep and that with the proper stimuli they can be led to do or believe virtually anything.
