Rating: Summary: Underrated Musical Drama Review: Christian Bale is the leader of the NYC "Newsies", the countless boys and young men trying to earn a few pennies selling newspapers. "Read all about it!". Already exploited by greedy newspaper barons, the Newsies are hit with yet another "squeeze", bringing the already steaming pot to boil over. STRIKE! The story is based on actual events in 1898 NYC. Played for drama, some of the actual story was obviously embellished. Musical numbers and outstanding choreography make this film a winner. Unfortunately this was a box office dud and to date has not received proper recognition for the portrayal of a piece of Americana. Worth a look!****
Rating: Summary: Read this reveiw (the only helpful one here; no babbling) Review: Many people - even musical lovers - have never even heared of "Newsies", released by Disney in 1992 as an attempt to bring back the magic of the Hollywood musical era. Indeed, when the movie hit theaters it was bashed by critics and largely ignored by audiences. While the music, by the same man who composed for "Little Mermaid", is just as good if not better than most Disney animated musicals, the live-action caused a strange reaction. Why it is ok for fish and other sea creatures to beak into song and dance at random times but not for teenage boys is a question one must answer for oneself. The story, revolving around New York City news boys at the turn of the last century, is rather a good idea, and could have been dramatized very successfully by anyone but Disney. It is still enjoyable and exciting to watch though a little, shall we say, dorky. The songs are rousing, the dancing very interesting to watch, and the lead performance by Christian Bale is excellent. Now let me be specific: while some adults may very well enjoy this movie, the audience I would reccomend it to is the nearly pre-teen, preteen, and teenage crew. Basically, the boys of the ensemble cast are extremely charming and good-looking, and one need only type 'Newsies' into a search engine to see how many girls have dedicated obsessive websites to the movie and its cute stars. Let it be said that Bill Pullman and Anne Margret, the film's highly toted adult stars, are rarely mentioned by this set (Margret, though credited with one of the best numbers in the film, seems superflous: we all know why they put her in the movie). If one is searching for a gift for a young, musical loving girl, this is perfect. Buy it (plus, the DVD features extensive "behind the scenes" footage, interviews, and other novelties). However, if one is searching for hope that movies like "The sound of Music" or even "Guys and Dolls" are still being made, don't buy it. But do rent it and check it out; it is rather addicting!
Rating: Summary: Totally Irresistable! Review: I can't understand how anyone could not like this movie. It is so charming, that within one hour of watching it, you'll find yourself addicted. All of the characters are so colorful and so distinct. Each one has a separate personality that you fall in love with. Kenny Ortega did a brilliant job with this. This is one of the few good musicals released in the past fifteen years. I highly recommmend it to anyone and everyone.

Rating: Summary: If you love musicals, you love Newsies! Review: The songs in this movie are some of the best I've heard and the dances are amazing. I have purchased this DVD and am always watching it. This movie can always make me laugh no matter how many times I watch it. The songs vary from serious(Santa Fe) to hysterical (King of New York). I can not stress enough how much this purchase will change the way you view musicals. It is especially enjoyable to those who have performed and sung before. BUY THIS MOVIE...you won't regret it! P.S.- Christian Bale (jack) and Aaron Lohr (Mush) are as cute as they come...just one more plus to this fantasically good time!

Rating: Summary: Newsies:A new Musical Cult Classic Review: I really enjoyed the movie the Newsies because it is a musical that has some enjoyable song and dance numbers including Christian Bale's solo Santa Fe and the number King of New York in the local resturant.I first saw this movie in 1997 and i loved but I never remembered the title until i saw the movie in a Video store and knew this was the movie i loved when i first saw it.So people who like musicals should really either buy or rent it.
Rating: Summary: NEWSIES Review: Hmm.. how in under 1,000 word could one discribe Newsies? It is a movie about something that really happened at the turn of the century in New York. It is definetly one of the best musicals I've ever seen, and even one of the best movies. (third in line to the X-men and Harry Potter series-es) It is definetly a must buy! PS- could it help that Jack (Christian Bale) is HOT?
Rating: Summary: The Newsies are Front Page in My Paper! Review: Although it wasn't widely accepted in it's debut, The Newsies certainly hasn't died from everyone's hearts. Musical fans & those of movies with energetic dance numbers will love the catchy songs that move the plot along. A breath of fresh air compared to the stale sequels & "themed" movies that have been bombarding the silver screen for the last decade. Granted musicals are starting to make a slow come back, The Newsies retested the waters back in 1992...way before Moulin Rouge or Chicago the Movie. The Newsies characters are memorable & very talented with their singing & dancing...prooving that there really is some real talent left in Hollywood. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves musicals or just tired of the explosive action flicks, sappy romances & outragious/over-the-top comedies...this movie has just the right amount of everything.
Rating: Summary: my favorite movie of all time Review: Newsies is an amazing colaboration of talent and history. Every song touches your heart and every character warms your soul. It's a movie for all ages and one to watch over and over again.
