Rating: Summary: Better than the first... (there, i said it! ) Review: I know I'm in the smallest of minorities in this opinion, but I really do prefer this to the original!First of all, Landis and Ackroyd have apparently mellowed with the years, and the result is a film that leaves off the mean spirit of the original and tends to rejoice in goofiness. (That, by the way, is a good thing! ) Second, the little blues dude is great! Very funny! And finally, the obligatory underpinning of homage and tribute to roots music in the face of our prefab, plastic, techno present is somehow more plaintive and heartfelt here than it was in the first film. Anyway, it's lotsa fun! Someone needs to make a similar tribute to real hillbilly music! P.S. I would have given a fifth star but for the inclusion of too much profanity and the mocking of valid (Christian) religious forms.
Rating: Summary: Horrible! Review: When I saw they were making another Blues Brothers I thought it was a great idea. I went to see it when it came out. The only good part of this movie was the dedication to three members of the original cast who have died. There is no real new plot, horrible acting, and the story is so fake the writers of the script must need a refresh in how to write one. This movie is one the worst I ever seen! Grade:F
Rating: Summary: Bland Review: a very bad film is the best way to sum up this mess.nothing works at all.what seemed cool 20 years back is at best a Spoof.the music is so-so at best.skip it.
Rating: Summary: Good film Review: I enjoyed this film, it was good. It has lost some of the "Taking everything in their stride" charm of the original, but the movie is worth watching, even if only for the wonderful in-jokes reffering to the first movie. The music is, as ever, excelent and tasteful, and Dan Ackroyd plays Elwood as well, if not better, than he did in the first movie. Perhaps what spoils it is the fact that it is not set in the 70s and so is not as fun and gritty but it is relly a different style of movie anyway. Thoroughly reccomended.
Rating: Summary: If you like rythm & blues you will love this movie. Review: The plot to this movie is basicly the same as the first, the acting is fair, but the music is fantastic. Most of the performers if not all are world class, the who's who in clasic rock, soul, blues are in this movie!
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I was sorely disappointed in this so-called sequel to the classic Blue Brothers movie. What could have been an otherwise entertaining continuation of the original, came off as a half-hearted, soul-less and not very funny film. Jim Belushi would have been a more appropriate actor to fill the shoes of his late brother, John. John Goodman, on other the hand, while a good actor, just didn't do it for me. His performance was boring and uninspired. There was also a 10-year old boy in a supporting role who added nothing to the movie other than to tie in the orphanage to an already weak plot. The entire Blues Brothers Band was also present. But again, they came off as a bunch of boring fifty-somethings who were mere shadows of their former selves. The major problem I had with this film was its tone. The original was set in urban Chicago. This provided an excellent back drop for the R&B that the Blue Brothers were all about. The sequel found the cast aimlessly roaming rural America. And nothing funny ever happened. The only redeeming value of this film was the all-star blues jam at the end which featured the likes of B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley and several other legendary performers. Do yourself a favor. Skip the movie and buy the soundtrack.
Rating: Summary: Love it or hate it Review: You either love or hate this movie.. Before viewing it, I was afraid it was going to be a copy of the original. But, while the situations the Blues Brothers get in are exactly the same (i.e. a church-scene), they are all modernised to fit the 90s. That's a good thing and I enjoyed the movie all the way through. It will probably help having seen the original first.
Rating: Summary: They have improved on the first one!!! Review: We decided to have a Blues Brothers marathon and rent both films. The saddest part was they were both on DVD and our equipment broke before we could watch Blues Brothers 2000. Switching to VHS was a downgrade, but Blues Brothers 2000 was MUCH better than the first. Now we have ordered the DVD and can't wait to watch it again, and again....
Rating: Summary: Well, disapointing... :o( Review: When I first heard about this brand new Blues Brothers film I thought :"Whow ! If it's as good as the first one... It'll be great !!!". Then, I saw it... What a disapointment ! Bad things : 1) The story is as thin as cigarette paper and stupid... 2) there is no 'magic' atmosphere as there was in the first one... 3) John Goodman is not as good as John Belushi and by far !!! 4) Even the fabulous Aretha Franklin is... less fabulous... Quite good things : 1) J. Evan Bonifant (Buster, a little boy) is quite good and brings some fresh air to this film... 2) the end of the film (I won't tell you !) is really nut ! 3) some GREATS musical moments (a fabulous concert near the end with a lot of famous singers and musicians !!! Surprise !) 4) the biggest car stunt ever ! 5) a making off is included in the DVD and is quite good (20 or 30 minutes !!! Can't remember exactly...) So I give only 2 stars to this film... In fact, it worth only because of some great musical moments... Buy it only if you are a GREAT fan of the Blues Brothers...
Rating: Summary: Terrible. Why can't I give it 0 stars? Review: There are very few movies that I've ever wanted to walk out of. This one jumped to the top of the list. This movie deserves recognition for not only being one of the worse sequels ever, but one of the worse movies. It's painful to sit through. This movie should be punishment for shop lifting.
