Summary: Love it or hate it...........
Review: Well it seems that people either love this movie or hate it. I'v met people who say Moulin Rouge was a great movie while I'v also met people who litterally hate and despise the film. I happen to be in the group that loves the film. Sure the story may be kind of cheesy, but it's well done and touching. Visually the movie is amazing. The vibrant colors and elaborate costumes never bored me. The music was great. Some say the creator wasn't creative enough to use use his own music, but he cleaverly used great popular songs and remade them. I don't know how they pulled of Roxanne, but they did. The actors do a good job, their lines may come off as unrealistic, but the story is a simple almost fantasy type. I am not a fan of musicals, the idea allways seemed silly to me, but this movie has changed my mind. If you haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favor and check it out, seems like you'll either love it or hate it, but its worth it to see what all the fuss is about. The DVD is also loaded with all kinds of cool stuff.

Summary: Sing to me, Ewan
Review: This is one of those movies that you'll love or hate-- i haven't heard anyone say it was "so-so". I'm in the love category-- and not just because I love Ewan McGregor, although he helped. This movie blew me away. I felt like I was on a roller coaster for the first 15 minutes-- it was a frenzy of color, movement, song. I enjoyed the story and characters. In this age of "cookie-cutter" movies, Moulin Rouge was a stand-out original.

Perhaps what affected me the most, however, was the singing. As a professional singer, I have a huge amount of admiration for people who can stand up and sing out when it's not necessarily their profession. It's so rare that actors cross over and do their own singing and it would have been pretty easy for them to have Ewan and Nicole lip sync while a professional sang the actual songs. But having them actually sing made the movie what it is. I can't even imagine the amount of work that went into just learning the songs and practicing them until they were movie-worthy.

Plus, it was like Ewan was singing just to me. Mmmm...

My friend just called to say that she rented this movie for us to watch tonight. I can't wait! So, despite what you may have heard, you should give the movie a chance. It might just surprise you.

Summary: Don't Miss This Movie !
Review: I thought Moulin Rouge was aswosome because it was a love story and how Christian became invole with the Moulin Rouge. I like the storyline and how it was like back flash. I didn't like when the Duke wanted Satine for him self. I like the costumes in the movie because they just so awesome. The music I thought went really well with it because it was part of the movie. I hope that other people will see it and I hope this help to give you idea of what the movie is about.

Summary: Christ, Is there a refund department???????
Review: Anyone seen Mel Gibson's "We Were Soldiers" where the black lady is being told her husband was killed and all she can say for 1/2 hour is "Uh-Uh....Uuummm-Uuuummmm....Uh-Uh"?? That's exactly how I felt sweetie. Oh the humanity!

Her husband wasn't dead! She had just watched this entity and was trying to warn her friends who came over but she could not get the words out.

LOL...LOL...LOL. At least I still have my sense of humour because I am seriously doubting my sanity since insisting we rent this at long last and having put friends through the tragedy. The least I could do was turn it off half way through and shout dinner to relieve the trauma I had put them all through.

Save yourselves, I may be lost yet.

Summary: Shocker
Review: The woeful acting from Kidman is what lost me, not the sets, costumes, singing, editing which I thought were passable. I am yet to watch Nicole Kidman convince me of a character or her ability to act in any movie she has done. To Die For was her other majorly overacted, overrated attempt that springs to mind. Her method is stoic, forced, almost unnatural. Her screen emotions ALWAYS look like they were read from a teleprompter. She needs to let go and cut with what she "thinks we want" as opposed to letting us see what we want. We NEED to feel it is she who is really crying, dying, laughing, hurting, loving as many wonderful actors are capable of doing. Nicole is just unable to capture my heart or mind in any film she has done. She tries too hard with every line, every look...all heavily exaggerated. A true craftsman should not have to try so hard and when done right it is flawless, effortless and completely natural no matter what the unlikely and corny subject matter (I totally believed Sigourney Weaver was going to kick some Alien ass as Ripley!! Tom Hanks was truly in space making that movie Apollo 13!! For God's sake, I believed the horses in Braveheart were really killed they did such a great job falling down on cue!!) But I cannot believe Nicole Kidman. Funny thing about the word acting. We know you are acting, but we don't want to feel anything other than what we are seeing could be real and true. We simply do not want to see the mechanics of human acting such as emotion and voice training. She is so methodical in her delivery, it is like she is practising pulling faces and lines in front of the mirror.

I am sure she is a lovely person and great Mum to her kids with many other talents to take on the world with.....but she is not an actor. Moulin Rouge is lost in the tragic trash category in my opinion because of her.

Summary: Beautifully Done
Review: Moulin Rouge, is by far the greatest love story ever written. This spectacular story about love, is told through song and it is a must see for the "hopeless romantic". The first fifteen minutes are intense, but give it a chance and I know you'll enjoy it like you've never enjoyed any other movie about love.

Summary: Uuughhhhh!
Review: I so disliked this movie that I don't even know where to begin with my criticism. Well, I guess I'll start with the very beginning of the movie because that is exactly where the torture of "Moulin Rouge" begins. The opening scene was so over-produced, horribly edited and simply nauseating that I almost didn't get past it. Was this supposed to be artistic??? Chaotic is more like it and it only turns the viewer off.

Next, the acting- Ewan McGregor was so-so, OK at best, in his portrayal of the struggling, tortured writer. And Nicole Kidman, well I haven't seen acting much worse! HOW could anyone have seen fit to give her an Oscar nomination for THAT??? I have just two words for Kidman: ExCESSIVE over-acting!

Now for the use of modern pop songs in this mess of a movie. I think it's a clear sign of the director's lack of original ideas. It wasn't clever, it was degrading to the original artists- The Beatles, Elton John, U2 and yes, even Madonna.

The one positive I have for this movie is that, when it's not causing motion sickness and seizures, it is visually appealing. The vibrant colors of the set and costumes is very theatrical and interesting but pretty colors can only go so far and they certainly can't make up for all the other attrocities of "Moulin Rouge."

Summary: Excederin Headache #2031
Review: I have to respect that a number of people whose taste I trust loved this, but, my God did it give me a headache. It was similar to being subjected to a strobe light for 2 hours. Was this a musical for the attention span deficiant, or an attempt to recreate a 19th century acid flashback? I guess that my zero tolerence for the "art form" of the musical may have pre-disposed me to loathing this. Nonetheless, ugh.

Summary: Never Get Sick of It
Review: I've owned this DVD since it first came out last year. I've watched it so many times and somehow I'm still not sick of it. It's the music, the acting, the dance...it's different from any other recent film. The combination of comedy, drama, and musical is what makes this film so wonderful.

The acting performances (particularly the leads Nicole and Ewan) are extraordinary. Their voices are beautiful and their acting is convincing.

In my opinion, you must have a somewhat sophisticated taste in music to enjoy this movie. It's not for those who will not give unusual movies a chance. But, if you're willing to give it the chance it deserves, this movie will be one you will watch constantly and never get sick of. =)

Summary: It knocked my socks off!!!
Review: What a movie...I was not expecting anything and pow!!! Within 5 minutes, after the shock of its originality wore off, I loved every second of it. A totally new way of looking at a musical. Madonna can only wish her movies came off this well.
It's like watching your favourite music video continue on for a couple of hours! It moved at a breathtaking pace. I was never bored.
I really wanted Nicol to win the Oscar. (I also think Sissy Spacek would have been a worthy cadidate for In The Bedroom).
Kudos to the production, directions, costumes, and music. Hey, this is the first time in almost 50 years a challenger to the great Marilyn Monroe rendition of Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend has appeared! That alone is worth the price of this rental!! Enjoy...
