Summary: Should make Top 100 worst movies ever
Review: This is one of the worst movies that I have ever seen.
Need I say more.

Summary: HATED IT! Could not finish it
Review: WOW I think what surprises me more than anything is the number of GOOD reviews this thing got! This has got to be the worst piece of "entertainment" I have ever seen! I never got over the opening credits, when a subtitle tells us the setting is Paris in the 1800s or something.. and then they proceed to sing all these 1999-2001 songs... and i was left thinking.. what the H@LL is going on here! Are we in a timewarp or what! My friend kept telling me.. it will get better, just wait. But after 30 minutes they were doing the same nonsense--singing noisily and I can't see even a vague resemblence of a plot. Needless to say I watched not another second of this garbage. As soon as I saw "from the maker of Romeo and Juliet" I should have turned it off.. That was also unbearable. What I can't get is that some people actually like this guy's style?!?! All I can say is WATCH IT before you BUY IT!!! Don't make my mistake.

Summary: One of the better ones
Review: I had the pleasure of watching Moulin Rouge over the holiday weekend. (The beginning was a little slow.) It has been a while since I've seen a musical that actually kept me captivated. Moulin Rouge is not just a love story, it's funny, and rather entertaining. I would highly recommend it for all to see, in fact I have. Again, don't get discouraged by the beginning, it will make sense in the end. Enjoy!

Summary: Moulin Rouge- Exciting!!!
Review: I absolutely love this movie. I thought it was very artisitic. I think they usedd all the craziness in the beginning for art. The Moulin Rouge songs and dances were like a curtain being openned on to this love seen. I thought the scene were Satine and the crew of the play run around dancing and singing " Spectacular, Spectacular", was a bit dumb but I think the purpose of that scene was to make it appear as though Satine was okay. The music was dramatic and crazy. The actresses and actors had excellent voices and sung quite well.

I already own the soundtrack and now I plan to own Moulin Rouge on VHS, when it comes out.

This movie is very dramatic and I actually cried the first three times I saw it. It was a lot like Romeo and Juliet except sadder. Those who have seen the movie understand what I mean.

Summary: brilliant director
Review: I'm giving this movie four stars because it was done with
brilliant direction from Baz Luhrman and Ewan Macgregor was
so adorable and perfect with his role .Throughout this movie
he looked so in love and had the sweetest most sincere expression I have
ever seen on his face ,and his voice is so beautiful. But Nicole Kidman who I liked in the others has a bland voice that shows no
emotion in it and didn't seem to show a lot of emotion with her acting in return.
So if they had just cast someone else in her part it would be a 5.Please make more movies Baz.

Summary: Entertainment to the Max!
Review: Oh, who cares if the director overdid it, or if the stars can or can't sing very well (I think they did just fine, and I'm a professional musician)! The bottom line is, this is one of the most original films I've seen in years, and it's a total feast for the senses! Turn up the surround sound, put it on the biggest screen you can find, and have a great time watching this musical! I think the constant homages to other musicians and their songs is fun and nostalgic too. And the one original love ballad really soars! The DVD has so many additinal features, and even the packaging is the best I've seen yet in a DVD. Great all around. Just don't be so serious about it...have some aloha and enjoy it for the fun of it!

Summary: Wow
Review: Ok, so the singing isn't Broadway, but the directing, cinematography and yes, even the acting, are top rate. If you don't like musicals, you will probably find this movie campy. Is it worth adding to your DVD library...yes!

Summary: You know it's a good movie when it makes you laugh and cry.
Review: I have never written an online review about a movie before. I usually just read reviews from others. Today, reading some of these low-rating reviews inspired me to write my own review. Several other reviewers said this was the worst movie ever. I however, feel it is the BEST movie ever!!!! Many people criticized Kidman and McGregor for their lack of musical talent. I have a degree from a hightly-respected conservatory. I have also taught music lessons. I have heard the best and the worst. They absolutely are not the best but let me tell you, I've heard a lot worse. I think they did pretty well for their first vocal performances.
This movie is probably greater appreciated by people who love music, art, theater, etc. Although, if you are not one of those people, you should challenge yourself to see this movie anyway. This is a MODERN MUSICAL. Baz is trying to take new things (like the modern music) and marry it with the old in an attempt to reach a new audience that maybe has less exposre to musicals. The way the music tells the story is absolutely amazing. If you were to listen only to the music you would be able to feel the emotions of what is happening in the movie.
I have to admit, when they began to perform "Roxanne" I thought this was a little over the top. My mind was soon changed. The anger, turmoil, distress, and conflict of this movie came to it's climax through this song. No movie has ever made me feel so deeply the emotions of the characters. The music of this song is so perfectly matched to each increasingly dramatic mini-scene. It's almost sensory overload!!
This movie, in addition, does not have the "Happily-ever-after Hollywood" ending. It's a movie about love and "real" (in a fairy-tale sense) life. It's raw: life, love, motivation, inspiration, talent, friendship, fortune, desire and tragedy.
In this movie the scenes are beautiful; the use of color is astonishing. Luhrman uses some incredible effects that make you feel like you are living in a fairy tale land.
An interesting side note is that Director Baz Luhrmann has made this the third movie of a trilogy. The first being Stictly Ballroom, in which he used dance to tell his story. In Romeo and Juliet he used language and finally in Moulin Rouge he used music/song.
This is not the movie for you if you want to critique the actors on their new-found singing abilities or you hate doing "artsy" things. If you prefer the traditional, middle-of-the-road, happily-ever-after movies, don't see this movie.
This is the movie for you if you want to expand your horizons or if you love drama, art, dance, beauty and music. If you are open-minded at all . . . then open up your mind and your heart and let this wonderfully moving and creative movie in. It's a movie that makes you laugh and cry. To me, that's the best kind.

Summary: Should win an Oscar, but probably won't
Review: This movie, while using well-known music and a classic plot line, is thoroughly original, evoking what must have been the spirit of Montmartre bursting away from convention, flaunting itself in colors, noise, music, and unbearable-yet obsessive-romantic and passionate love: a forerunner of the 60s in its rebelliousness against decorum and tradition. The movie's opening with the curtain going up on the stage, the unconventional lighting and camera angles, the amazingly intelligent use of familiar music in a new way, the costumes, choreography, and filming all add up to a really innovative and exciting movie. I think this should win an Oscar as best picture of the year, but Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings will probably win, and while they are excellent movies, they do not have the freshness and sauciness this one does.

Summary: So beautiful it will break your heart!
Review: Everytime I watch this movie I find a new nuance, a subtle meaning carefully orchestrated by genius Baz Luhrman. Granted, if musicals aren't your thing this movie might fly right over your head. But for those who love pure artistic beauty and the fantasy we all wish we could find in real life, this is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The orchestration of familiar songs is unbelievable, and the voices of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, while obviously not professional, are perfect for the roles. This movie swings between the hilarious (Spectacular, Spectacular), the starkly dramatic (Roxanne) and the heartbreakingly tragic (What May Come). You'll come out of it feeling like you've been on a 2 hour roller coaster, but any ensemble of artists who can turn a one dimensional screen into this unbelievable 3-D melange of color, sound, and dance is definitely worth the ride. The fact the story itself it a bit unrealistic is entirely inconsequential. Anyone who sits through a movie simply to find more of the reality they live every day is entirely missing the point of entertainment. Truth, Beauty, Freedom, Love!
