Review: There's really no point in seeing this movie if you have seen an episode of Behind the Music/Where Are They Now?. If only VH1 would play those shows again instead of the crap they play now . . . anyway it's not really that good.

Review: This is a movie about a man who grew up being the biggest fan of 'steel dragon' (this band doesn't even exist). He's in a band, who play only steel dragon songs, and in one steel dragon concert he just shouts along with the lead singer, and then after that, he performs with his band. Steel dragon fire their frontman, and get this guy to be their frontman, until one night there's a guy shouting along with the singer. He gets him onstage, and shockinly quits the band. And plays his own songs, reunites with his old steel dragon tribute band, and just perform. He also had a girlfriend, who was played by jennifer aniston, he also reunited with her, and that's how the movie ends. Overall a great movie, really moving, and highly recommended to see.

Review: Yes, that's right! With "Rock Star," a film where "He went to take a piss" is the ultimate catch phrase, not all the cliches in the world can stop it from being a really deep drama.Half of you probably think I'm on crack - oh well (I'm not btw). Sure, there are some cheesy moments (a lame "Wayne's World" nod to the "let's-headbang-in-a-car sequence"). Sure, there are the oldest cliches in the book ("...Dreams really can come true."). With the vehicle for this "right of passage"-themed story being heavily dipped in 80's excess, many people trash the movie despite it's somewhat tounge-in-cheek, satirical treatment a la "Spinal Tap". What's even easier than missing the point of the film is this: getting the point, thinking it's really trite, making fun of it, then forgetting about it. Well, okay, maybe you do need to be atleast somewhat tolerant of 80's metal in order to really get lost in the experience (I confess I like it), but the last half hour or so of the film was one of the more awe-inspiring bits I've ever seen in film. And okay again, maybe it's because I myself am a musician and it hits close to home... but nonetheless, this movie can really tug at your heartstrings and leave you in a more philosophical state than the 80's ever were. You can let the over-the-top bombast of the film do just the opposite, but a REALLY solid acting job (ESPECIALLY Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston) by the entire cast doesn't make that easy to do. The fact that Steel Dragon is a collection of actual decent musicians is some tasty icing on the cake. I won't spoil too much in case you haven't seen it, but I need to say the following: To me, the concept of having all you could ever imagine, then finding an emptiness and depression come out of nowhere and consume an individual, is one of the scariest, most mind-blowing things to really ever think about - music aside. What is life really about? Yes, folks, that is the question that a little movie called "Rock Star" left me pondering as I exited the theater - and more recently, turned off the DVD player.

Review: I loved this movie because it shows that you can become famous if you belive in yourself. Jennifer Aniston really played a good part as his girlfriend/manager. I saw this movie the first time on VHS "Movies That Rock" and I went out and bought the DVD. The movie just showed that it they can make a good movie about a rock star and Rock'N music.

Review: I enjoyed this flick!...I was a teen back in the early 80's and grew up listening to the "Hair Bands". I found the similarities to some of the real big name metal bands of that era to be bang on. When the lead singer of the movie band "Steel Dragon" announced he was gay and how the band turned on him was very close to the situation for Rob Halford and Judas Priest. Mark Wahlberg did a great job on his character and who can get enough of Jennifer Anniston in those sexy outfits! In all, I think it was a shame it did not do well in theatres, but us old die hard "Head Bangers" loved it!

Summary: The Judas Priest Story Finally
Review: this movie is a must have for all those 80's rock fans. the story pretty much seems like its on the same stream as what happened with Rob and Judas Priest. things that make ya go Hummm.
anyways the soundtrack is awesome and the movie rocks. Mark and Jennifer do an awesome job. and for those that don't know Mark is formally known as Marky Mark, thought it was pretty clever putting in Good Vibrations at the end credits. but if you liked the tunes from SteelDragon, then you'll love Steelheart, Mike and Jeff's (the TWO, not ONE lead singer of SteelDragon) former band. Both me and my wife are die hard 80's rock fans and we loved this movie.

Summary: dreaming your way to stardom and waking your way back
Review: Tim Owens ("Ripper") was the lead singer of a Judas Priest cover band who lived a real-life fantasy... when Rob Halford, lead singer of Judas Priest, quit the band, Owens was given his job - talk about a rags to riches story! This real story was definitely the inspiration for this fictional tale, but just a springboard as the story departs from there. Mark Wahlberg plays Chris Cole, who is lead singer of his own cover band, "Blood Pollution," that plays homage to the fictional band Steel Dragon. Cole refers to the band as a "tribute" band, not a cover band, but the nomenclature seems lost on most everyone else, including his bandmates. The other guys in the band want to spread their wings and play some of their own material, but Chris refuses and they replace him with another singer. Crestfallen, Chris attends a Steel Dragon concert and tries to enjoy himself. Front row of the mosh pit, he gets just a few moments of fame as Steel Dragon hands the mike down to the audience. Chris does such a mind-blowing good job, Steel Dragon fires their trouble-making singer and hires Chris to take the role. His devoted girlfriend, Em (wonderfuly played by Jennifer Aniston), is supportive and excited for him, but quickly loses her enthusiasm as Chris is forced to place their relationship on the back burner. The band insists that as a member of their group, he must hang with them on their tour bus - groupies and drugs are always welcome, but no wives or girlfriends are allowed. In an effort to fit in, Chris soon finds himself wasted and involved in some carnal extracirricular activities with fans and others. Having found the end of the rainbow, he finds that the pot of gold is really foil-covered chocolate coins - definitely not worth the journey. The most driving force is his passion for singing and his love for Em, and in the end, he follows another rainbow to find his real pot of gold. The film has lots of surprises and the acting is flawless by all and very enjoyable. The end credits showcase Wahlberg in his Marky Mark persona - it is very entertaining. I really enjoyed this film, but note that due to nudity, sexual innuendo, drug use and profanity, this is not a film for the kids.

Summary: Could have been a classic
Review: Great premise for a movie. And it WAS a pretty good movie...but with the right director this could have been a classic. He seems to rush through it and leave alot of holes in the movie. Some music he plays is wrong for that era, and he decides to play INXS and Talking Heads at pivital points in the movie when this movie is about HEAVY METAL... The STEEL DRAGONS songs are AWESOME!!! They sound just like they came out of the 80's... Just thought some would be interested in knowing this...The musicians of Steel Dragon are the same that play in the movie...Zakk Wylde on guitar, Jason Bohnam on drums, the guy from Dokken (forgot his name) on bass, but singing the songs is the lead vocalist from the group Steelheart, who had a hit in the 80's with the song "Never Let You Go"...it is not Mark Walberg singing. In the directors commentary, he dosent even know who is singing...what a LOOSER!!!

Summary: A wannabe you gets to be...
Review: For every starving musician this is a very fun and interestng movie. The movie is about a guy who is kicked out of a band and gets a phone call from a member of the Steel Dragon Band to audition to replace their lead singer. This is unlikely in reality but it is fun to think of because what if you were called by your favorite band to come and play or sing for them? Would'nt it be great?! I like the fact that Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind is in the movie because he is a rock star in real life posing as one in the movie. I can't give this movie a comlete five stars because it is somewhat pointless here and there but it is a ton of fun!
