Summary: Not the real thing
Review: This is not the way Bye Bye Birdie was meant to be seen. I have read the script and will be in the play. The makers of this movie cut as much as possible to still have the story line. They cut out a bunch of great songs like "English Teacher" and "Honest American Boy" If the directors had just stuck to the script there would be no need for the 1995 remake with Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams. It sticks more to the story line. If you want to see what Bye Bye Birdie is supposed to be about the 1995 version will do that.

Summary: Worth the Watch
Review: The Story is cute, the songs first rate and the performances outstanding. The choreogrpahy is some of the best and most original you'll ever see. Gower Champion deserved his reputation. The ballet bulesque at the end is a magical moment in cinema. The effects that the director used, blue sceen to washes and inserts, surpass what all except the best sci-fi was using in those days (rememebr this is the early 1960's.

A great social commentary of its day, with much that still applies, even in 2000.

The worst part about the video is that it is not available in letterbox, and a lot of subtle humor and fun from the choreography is lost when they cut 1/3 of the left or right off.

Lastly, Ann Margeret is as sexy as they come. It is worth watching to see this young actress in her debut role flaunting all that she has.

If you like musicals, you have to love this.

Summary: A for sure cute musical
Review: I watched this movie over and over again. I love to watch the dances and the songs. It has fast ballet, which I have rarely seen in most movies-making this one more creative. Unlike most movies today, this a clean, funny movie that you will enjoy.

Summary: I have always loved this movie
Review: This is a great movie. Some people complain that the sound and video quality aren't that good, but it is an old flick. It wasn't digitaly remasterd like some old movies. I believe this is a great movie, but go rent it before you buy it. Some people like it, some don't.

Summary: One Big YAWN
Review: This movie utterly bored me. There's nothing wrong with the actors as I have enjoyed their other work. But this movie just doesn't do anything for me.

Summary: DON'T BUY THIS VIDEO!
Review: If you loved this movie, take a pass on this video presentation of it. The print is old and chopped up--actually broken in spots--the color faded and the sound awful. Columbia Home Video should be ashamed of itself for presenting this fun movie in such an awful format.

Summary: It is a lot of fun
Review: This is a wonderful movie and clear as can be on DVD. Ann-Margret is superior and so young. The movie is very funny and great songs and dance numbers. You will love it and see it again and again.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Bye Bye Birdie; hello Ann-Margret
Review: It is dated; it's kitschy--but it's a lot of fun. From the minute Ann-Margret appears in the wind tunnel singing the opening title number until she reprises it at the end, this is a film to remember the "supposed" 50's. It isn't acurate; life wasn't this simple, but so what. Enjoy the humor; laugh at corny jokes. Listen to Bobby Rydell and Ann-Margret warble silly teen ditties. Watch Janet Leigh womder what she is doing in a musical. It isn't the greatest film of all time, but it is an enjoyable film nonetheless. Just let yourself enjoy it; it will be worth your time.
