Review: I got this movie from my 20 year old cousin when I was like 10. I looked at it and it was rated G. I'm like OK? but I think that it is funny and creative. Not one to see too many times but still very good with a great host of performers

Summary: annoying- good cast of actors-but really annoying
Review: This movie is on constantly in my house. My little bro is always watching. I can't that that annoying- "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, We Love You" song out of my head. It starts out good the first time- but it's hard to sit through because of it's lame plot about a flying car. Maybe it's good as a rental- but don't buy it for keeps.

Summary: Beautiful scenery, fun movie
Review: Sally Ann Howes looks & sounds lovely. Some of the songs ("Hushabye Mountain," "Truly Scrumptious," "Toot Sweets") are better than others ("You're My Little Choochi Face" "Posh"). Gorgeous scenery - filmed in parts of England & at the stunning Nueschweitzen Castle in Germany. I have wonderful memories of seeing this as a child. Special effects are so-so (lots of back-projection) but what do you expect in the age before the effects of the movie "2001"? Recommended!

Summary: Adequate.
Review: I was disappointed that it wasn't in letterbox all the way through. Only the first few minutes were, just like the "made for TV" tape version. I was really looking forward to seeing the full picture of Potts pushing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from his garage and flying around, but alas, the left and right were cut off. So if you don't mind a DVD version fo the made for TV version, then it's OK I guess. My heart sank when it caid "this movie has been modified from it's original version - it has been modified to fit your screen" - which is another way to say "we're going to cut 50% of the movie out so that we can sell the same tape to as many consumers as possible while keeping costs to a minimum". Chopped as it was, the picture quality itself was very good, though, and I could pick out the very polish smudges on the hood of the car as they pushed it around, and lots of tiny details that are mostly undiscernible in the VHS recording, like the catch net at the end of the rocket runway, and the fancy old-world writing on the base of his rocket suit. I couldn't get the "start at specific scene" to work. Had to FF/forward to start from the middle. Don't rush out and get it yet - unless you were raised on it (as I was) and can't live without it.

Summary: Too scary for the under 4 crowd
Review: I bought this video because I remember loving it as a child. What I'd forgotten was that there is a very scary character who goes around with a net trying to catch children. I think this movie is great for older kids, or I wouldn't have remembered it so lovingly, but little ones can only watch the first 20 minutes or so.

Review: Since I first saw this movie when I was little I fell in love with it and it quickly became my favorite movie. Dick Van Dyke does a great job along with the other cast members. Flying in Chitty through adventures and romance.

Summary: This movie is a classic for all ages
Review: This is Dick Van Dyke at his best, maybe one of his greatest performances ever. The scene in the movie where he and the beautiful Ms.Howe are musical toys is by far one of the best done musical performances I have ever seen. When I first saw this movie as a child I thought it was the most wonderful magical thing I'd ever seen, now it is one of children's favorites.

Summary: An all-time classic.....
Review: This film never did get the credit it deserved. The songs are instant favorites (despite what other reviewers might say about them). Any child that liked the Wizard of Oz or Willie Wonka would love this film too. Dick Van Dyke is very entertaining as a mad inventor that creates a magical car. This film has some of the most unforgettable scenes in cinema. This is the film that Grease (the movie) got it's closing scene from!! From the musical scene set in the candy factory, to the king of Bulgaria's birthday party, your kids will be watching this one over and over again. And you'll find yourself sneaking peaks as well. My advice? Buy it today!

Summary: A Tremendous Tale
Review: It amazes me how both Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Willy Wonka have gotten blastings from some critics for having "forgettable" scores. How do you explain "The Candy Man?" or "Truly Scrumptious?" Almost everyone knows these songs, as they are well written and enjoyable. As is this movie. Set in a turn-of the century small village, apparently in England (mixed accents notwithstanding-Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has a similar problem), an eccentric inventor creates a magical car for his adoring children. An evil King gets wind of the invention, and sends spies to steal the car. They instead steal Grandfather, and Van Dyke and his children take off in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to retrieve him. Largely overlooked is the heavy World War II symbolism sprinkled throughout the film. The King who hates children represents a racist Hitler, supported by the Gestapoesque Child Catcher and spies who could easily be SS Soldiers. Watching the film with this knowledge makes for an entirely different experience, one many reviewers missed. Especially chilling is a scene near the beginning in which the spies attempt to blow up a bridge. They fail, and when the charge explodes belatedly, the smoke clears to reveal both spies frozen in a Nazi "Heil" salute. But even without this decidedly adult take on the plot, the film is extraordinarily entertaining. Great songs like "The Old Bamboo," "Toot-Sweet," and "Truly Scrumptious" will be attractive to both parents and children, and frequent use of passable, if dated special effects enhance the feel of the film. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a great film for adults and children, one you'll enjoy watching frequently.
