Summary: This movie has...
Review: one good quality; it's original. The plot was very well thought out and it kept your interest. Where I feel the movie went wrong is in it's inabuility to move the plot along. I thought I was going to keel over and die before the violin would ever be sold at auction. It has a great and unusual story though, so I was able to stick it out.

Summary: Part mystery, part chick-flick, all beautiful
Review: Samuel Jackson is a good enough actor, but that isn't why you want to see this movie.

The mysterious aspects of this film are fairly transparent and most people get "the big mystery" at least by the half-way point, but the story unfolds with such poetry and style that I remain transfixed through repeated viewings. I love the way the old woman tells the fortune of the violin via the tarot. I didn't appreciate that the first time I saw the movie, nor why that particular fortune was derived that way. (Sorry for being so circumloquacious, but I'm trying not to give away the joy of discovery.)

I loved how all the bidders in the auction were emotionally tied to the violin (though I can't trace the burly Russian conductor's tie) and I love how the violin moved between owners and cultures. I loved the way the contemporary story unfolded in stages as the history was revealed. I showed this to a room with ten of my relatives all with vastly different personalities and world-views and they all remained silent and motionless until the movie was over. For my relatives, that says a LOT.

Summary: Brilliant film united with a brilliant score...Brilliant!
Review: Library shelves are filled with masterpieces of literature, but Blockbuster shelves seem to be filled mostly with action-thrillers and chick-flicks. This is a true masterpiece of film and of music. The fictitious story of the Red Violin is so rich with history and complexity that it seems to be real. The storyline and chronology are so water-tight, everything fits together beautifully, like a puzzle. The music is the driving force. It is an amazingly moving score; once you've seen the film, buy the soundtrack. The movie will play over and over again in you head each time you listen to it. The score was actually completed before the film was finished. This was not planned, but resulted in a beautiful score to compliment this film and an amazing film to compliment the score. An awesome union of two genre and a true masterpiece of the silver screen.

Summary: Glorious!
Review: This is an absorbing tale of the legend of a priceless red violin. We travel through the history of the violin from creation to the ultimate conclusion. Along the way you'll be entertained by the many virtuoso musicians who owned it.

Joshua Bell's soundtrack is inspired and haunting. This is a must-see film for the lover of high art cinema!

Summary: A beautiful movie
Review: Samuel L. Jackson stars as man who finds this red violin which has many rumors around it. This movie tells the history of it and where it has been, what lives it touched and changed. The acting is amazing, and it's a pretty cool movie. Samuel L. Jackson is great as always, his best line is... "What do you do when you get the thing you always wanted?" This movie really makes you think. Just see it.

Summary: Absolute Masterpiece.
Review: This is an exceptional movie. This movie has a depth that is rare; seldom are movies like this made. The plot reveals itself slowly, carefully, winding to an incredible and inexorable revelation at the end.

How could such a thing, made by mortal hands, have such a captivating (even enslaving) effect? Watch and see.

To me this was fascinating because never has a movie so closely revealed the power and attraction of music; this violin captures the very soul of music -- an all consuming passion, evoking the best and worst in us all.

This is simply one of the best movies made. After watching it one feels that 99.99% of movies are garbage.

The Red Violin is a masterpiece.

Summary: A film on a lighter side...
Review: It is an interesting entertainment, but it lucks the substance somewhat. Not that it's boring, but after it's over, it doesn't leave that uplifthing sensation that one experiences after seeing a truly great work of art. But it is a movie worth seeing, for the cinematography alone - quite beautifully shot.

Summary: cello over violin
Review: THis movie is basically about a violin which symbolize the evil of earthy processions. It tells you that greed could basically kill you. You wonder, why are all these people obssessed with this violin from italian to afro-american? It's power of greed who made a girl kill his ex while making love with an woman playing the violin. Despite all the things happening around all the characters all they can't think about is the REd Violin. This is a powerful movie with a solid cast of actors who all deserve an Oscar

Summary: Beautiful, pure and simple
Review: And now for the brilliant video experience... The Red Violin. Wow. Kept me spellbound the whole time. Fantastic. Greta Scacchi gets nekkid (oh, so what else is new?), Sam Jackson plays a very good obsessed person/bad guy (oh, so what else is new?), Don McKellar looks (and acts) nothing like he did in eXistenZ (I had to go through IMDB to figure out who he was in both films, and I still can't make the connection), and... well, no one was badly cast. The soundtrack is exquisite. The pacing is perfect. It's just plain good, and if you haven't seen it already you should....

Summary: In My Top Five of All Time
Review: Incredible richness and sweep. Passionate, soulful, with gorgeous music. The most affecting movie I've seen in decades. A must for any musician.
