Summary: AMAZING TECHNICOLORED DREAMCOAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT
Review: This is possibly the best play EVER . i have seen Jason Donavon and Drron Day in "Joseph" but Donny Osmond out did them both. Joan Collins, Christopher Biggins,Sir David Attenbourgh star in this play. I cannot tell yuohow much of a buy this is. It has wonderful special effects and the songs are even more cheerful to see and hear. This movie is also a bargain. I purchsed it in a store for $25.00 so you can see how much you save.

DONT BUY THIS MOVIE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

Summary: Marvelous with Misgivings
Review: I saw this movie version only 4 months after finally seeing a professional stage production, though I've been an A.L.Webber devotee for years. Compared to the stage show, I was somewhat dissappointed: The Coat itself was more Amazing on stage and the brothers in ten gallon hats or berets definately added to the parodies of musical genres in the stage show. Donny O. lent more naivite to the Joseph role, though not enough angst to "Close Every Door". The narrator did not add much except her exagerated mugging. And why did they skimp on her costume; to show the difference between skimpy Egyptians and dowdy school teachers? No wonder there was no chemistry between them. I actually though it was a scream to see a very well preserved Joan Collins cast in her usual seductive/cradle-robbing role. It was subtle enough to go over the heads of my pre-teen kids. I liked the device of starting off in the auditorium which relates to the origins of the show, but I found it jarring to jump back and forth in time which could have been saved for the end, just when you almost forget where it started. Otherwise, the music makes it all worthwhile, especially if you can't have orchestra seats. It would be fun to see it on the big screen.

Summary: Joseph and the Amazing Tecno Dreamcoat is the best!
Review: I have wanted to see this musical for the last year, and was overjoyed when I heard that 'Great Performances' would be showing it on April 5th. After a gruling two weeks, the big day came. I watched with unblinking eyes trough the entire show. I thought it was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen on 'Great Performances', apart from 'Cats' of course. If I could give it higher then 5 stars, I would. Though the Mrs. Potiphar's scene I have to admit was a little on the personal side, it didn't really show anything. Her servents costumes were NOT see through, they were just white mesh with extremly small holes between the fabric thread. I would recomond this to anyone that wants to watch and listen to a really upbeat musical that you just have to get up and dance to. If I could find it on video around my town and if I had the money to buy it, I would.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I believe that it is an excellent piece of work. I have watched this musical in Hong Kong last year. It was full of fun! The scenes in this DVD are refreshing, as they are not filmed on a stage rather in the studio. I'm really eager to see the next one! Phantom of the Opera?

Summary: Fun and charming
Review: If you are looking for 100% Biblical accuracy, then you will be disappointed with this musical. If you are looking for family entertainment, then this is it. I watched it with my two sons, and they have begged me to buy it for our library. We laughed a lot and even got a little misty eyed on one of Joseph's songs. It is mainly, though, a light, funny comedy musical, and I think it would especially appeal to a younger audience, and the young at heart.Though it is not as polished as some of Webber's other musicals, it is probably his funniest. I know we'll be watching it over, and over, and over.

Summary: Great musical for the whole family
Review: I think this is a great video. The cast is stellar. Osmond and Friedman have given a very good performance, both dramatically and vocally. The music - well, it's by Andrew Lloyd Webber - need I say more? The camerawork, editing, special effects and set design are very good, which is not something I expected after seeing the Cats video, which did not realize all the potential of a film. This video does a superb job of blending the magic of film with music and lyrics that have delighted theater audiences for years. Kids of ages 4+ would enjoy this video a lot. Why not introduce them to musical theater with a masterpiece that is bound to get them hooked? And if you can, get it on DVD instead of VHS. VHS tapes wear out with use, and well, you're gonna want to watch this film again and again.

Summary: Only for diehard fans
Review: I would just as soon watch a High School production of this great musical than watch the video. Donny did a great job, but Maria Friedman as the narrator lacks power. The sets were great, the costumes fun (although a bit risque) and the concept of the audience in a drab gym was a great idea. Overall this video lacks the energy of most soundtracks available and they seemed to rush through each number. This is, however, an excellent introduction to musical theater and I hope this (along with the Cats video) will just lead to more Weber on video.

Summary: Horrible!
Review: This was the absolute worst version of Joseph that I have ever seen. And what makes it bad --- the awful performace by Maria Friedman as the Narrator. Anyone who knows Joseph knows that the Narrator must belt, but Friedman simply cannot belt and it brings down the overall production of the show.

Summary: A strange mix of weird, bad and good
Review: I love this musical, and like so many others, was happy to see it on video. But I was disappointed with many aspects of this production. I think Donny Osmond was OK, but I've seen better Josephs in local productions. He mugged too much and looked really bizarre in his wig. Maria Friedman can act, but her voice seemed much too weak for the Narrator role (anyone who's heard the original Broadway cast with Laurie Beechman knows what I mean.)The Joan Collins scene with Potiphar IS too risque for a family audience (Joan & her "girls" take off Donny's clothes & the whole thing looks briefly like it's going to turn into an orgy; I would be uncomfortable having my 5 & 7 year olds seeing it, and no, they DO NOT watch MTV!), and it wasn't necessary for it to be so. The entire Potiphar scene was misconceived. On the other hand. several of the other performances are excellent (the brothers, Pharoah), and the scenes with the children are genuinely moving. The whole thing just doesn't work as a coherent whole.

Summary: Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat
Review: Amabassador Alan Keyes said it best about today's politicians, "They try to be all things to all people rather than simply being themselves". Joseph is an outstanding musical and generally wholesome family fare. Regrettably, just enough of this production pushes the proverbial envelope to make a cautious parent wince when sharing this otherwise excellent production with young children. This production is well-casted. Donnie Osmold and the narrator are both excellent. I've seen a better Elvis/Pharaoh at a local production but it is the Las Vegas show girl-like costumes that spoils it abit for discriminating families.
