Rating: Summary: Two paws up! Review: I have seen the musical in person four times and the video and DVD are much better because you can see the cat's expressions. The songs make much more sense, and you can actually understand the words to Memories. I all can say is that CATS rules in the first place and the DVD makes it twice as good!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Still cant get enough! Review: I have had the video since Januari, 2 weeks after seeing it for the first time, I got on a plane to London to see it live! Oke, so the vid can never be as good as the live version, and many people where annoyed at the sloppy editing, but I think we got value for money! I think it could have been potencially much worse! The music is absolutly flawless, well, no actually, in 'Jellicle songs for Jellcile Cats' there are some false bits here and there. But a propper 100 peice orchestra is a must! And the music is fuller, livlier and more splended that it has ever been. Cats will never sound THIS good again! As for acting, well, they went to great lenths too get together a GREAT cast, and I think it worked out great. I am especially pleased with Gillian Llyne for picking Veerle Casteleyn for the role of Jemima, she is my main reason for going to the live version in London, where she will be till october. Her dance and acting is supurb and flawless, you HAVE to see it live! Unfortunatly, the last version of 'Memories' where Jemima sings was dubbed by Helen Massie, I guess ALW wanted a trained soprano for that bit, as Veerle never got any official voice training, but in London, she does it all herself, thank god! In fact, I am so crazy about the girl, I have but up a site devoted too her (am I aloud to advertise here?, I suppose not, but then I am not making a profit out of it or anything): http://victorian.fortunecity.com/durer/571/ Also a GREAT place to start looking for other Cats sites, there are well over 100 now! Anyhows, the vid is GREAT, but always remember that live it is EVEN BETTER! Toodlepip!
Rating: Summary: The BEST Video I ever bought!!!! Review: Cats the video is the best video I have ever seen of any musical! I love it!!
Rating: Summary: Kitty Litter on Sour Pusses Review: I guess if some folks were given a fortune for doing nothing more than breathing, they'd find something to complain about. I can't understand why they want to waste our time writing negative things about CATS, when it's very clear most of us who loved the music, the cast, the total production, regardless of inconsequential flaws, really don't give a damn about the cat-hair they insist on shedding on whatever they brush against. And how about that Elaine Paige, writing and letting us know how she felt about doing the Grizabella role. That's class, Folks. She's clearly a cat of unashamed felinity, well deserving of the HeavySide Lair.
Rating: Summary: John Partridge, UMM BABY! Review: In the video, Cats, John Partridge was wonderful not to mention he has a eautiful booty. He is Rum Tum Tugger. Buy it and watch him shake it. If you like Tim Curry, you'd love John Partridge. The whole video was spectacular. -Amanda
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Stunning!! 5 Stars isn't enough!! Review: I never thought that I could be moved by a musical before. I always thought that I was a bang-bang shoot-em-up movie kind a guy. Well, Cats opened my eyes. I have never gone through such a range of emotions before I saw this video. If I knew that I could make people feel this way just by dancing, maybe I would have chosen a different path in life. Incredible!!!! I am now making plans to see the play in New York. I live in North Carolina so it isn't easy, but I will do it. I have been to the Wintergarden Theatre long ago to see "Beatlemania". 25 years later and I am going back.
Rating: Summary: More Victoria. Also, who loves Electra besides me? Review: This is one more thing for Frank to see-- I got a plant this weekend, the kind with those white flowery things, and since it was white, I named it Phyllida! OK, next, I have read through most of the reviews on this thing, (only the ones that have four or five stars), and I have not seen one person who mentioned Leah Sue Morland, who plays the adorable kitten Electra. She is so funny and cute that I am surprised no one has commented on her. She is often seen with her best friend, Etcetera, and sometimes with the other kittens, Rumpleteazer, Victoria, and Jemima. She is in the background a lot, like in Mr. Mistoffelees, being cute and very kitten-like. She is an amazing performer, and I thought that she definitely deserves to be mentioned in these reviews. Since nobody else has said anything about her, I thought I would. I love Leah! Anyway, you may notice that this is my fourth review on this site, and I apologize for thaking up space. I really do. I will try not to write again, it's just that Cats is a huge part of my life. So actually, I lied. I will try my best to refrain from writing, but if I feel obliged or just get an urge to say something new, you will most likely be seeing my name up here once more.
Rating: Summary: Here's a Victoria review for Frank Review: Dear Frank, I think that Phyllida Crowley Smith is one of the most amazing performers I have ever seen in my entire life!!! If you will reread MANY of these reviews, including both of mine, you will notice that Phyllida is mentioned numerous times. You might also notice that I named quite a lot of Cats, but that is not just because I don't want any of them to feel left out. I really do love them equally. But the very first time I saw the Cats video was at my friend's house, and I fell in love with Phyllida, and only Phyllida, with Jo Gibb as a close runner-up. But when all of the cat names came on during the credits, the only one I bothered to look for and remember was Victoria. I still love her today as much as I loved her then. She is one of my favorite Cats, but I cannot say she is my absolute favorite one, because I do not have an absolute favorite one. That's because I love them all so much. In fact, I love Phyllida as much as you do, it's just that I love all the rest of them as much as I love her! I know I am sounding redundant and repetitive, but I feel that I must make this point. Just to show you that YES, there are other people out there who love Phyllida as much as you! Here is an ode to Phyllida Crowley Smith, although I'm not sure it is poetic enough to be called an ode: Phyllida captured my heart the very first time I saw her. She stood out the most, because she was wearing her beautiful pure white costume. She struck me as extremely beautiful at first glance, and as I watched her, I realized that this was probably the best dancer I had ever seen in my entire life! And that's saying a lot, because I take dance lessons at the biggest ballet company in my state, and I have seen MANY, MANY exquisite dancers in my time. Phyllida is superbly graceful and flexible and gorgeous. I have watched the video of Cats a countless number of times since January, and I mean probably a hundred, and I still never tire of watching my beloved little Phyllida. She is infinitely beautiful, and one of my lifelong dreams is to meet her. Another dream, an even bigger one, is to be in Cats when I am a little older (I'm only 16), and the role of Victoria is one of the ones that I would really be honored to get, although I know I could never come close to surpassing the lovely, talented Phyllida Crowley Smith. :)
Rating: Summary: Victoria Victoria Review: Am I getting old, senile? Why do I alone appear to be the only person (having read all the reviews) that saw Victoria Phillida Crowley Smith as the most incredible, awesome dancer of the entire Cats cast? This young lady's physical mastery of ballet style dancing mixed with the choreography of the show, was absolutely beyond belief, and I've seen Baryshnikov, and Tall Chief do their thing, and do not believe they even come close to Ms. Crowley-Smith's performance. Am I alone out here? Did anyone see the same dancer I did, or am I hallucinating? Hello? Any Victoria admirers out there? OH, and if anyone knows more about her, I'd like to know too.
