Rating: Summary: I sit and sit and sit and sit...and watch this video Review: Never have I enjoyed a musical video so much. From the unque opening number to even the closing credits, I am captivated.Never have i seen such a talented group of performers.Just by watching this show you feel as if they are really cats and that you've know them for years.I could never grow tired of this show (except maybe the annoying BATTLE OF THE PEKES AND THE POLLICLES - but hey, the rest makes up for it). Thanks Andrew Lloyd Weber and TS Elliot. You've done yourselves credit.I loved it and so will you!
Rating: Summary: I know what I like Review: Forget those professional critics. They can't watch anything just for the pleasure of it. Just to pick it apart. Retired and living alone, I wasn't a cat lover 'till I saw CATS on PBS. I didn't pay attention the first time it was on. It just happened to be there. The next day I found myself humming the music, so I watched it again. I am now owned by a ten month old calico that looks strikingly like Jemima. No coincidence there. She's super! That voice like crystal rings in my head, and even if it is dubbed, it's great. I hadn't seen Sir John Mills in decades. To see him as Gus, the theater cat, suprised me. The compassion shown to Gus was moving. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were so athletic they made ME tired, and I found Jo Gibb's accent delightful. I liked the entire British flavor of the production. When Grizabella and Jemima did their duet, and Grizabella got up from the floor, she sang with such a feeling of panic in her voice as if time was running out, and when she was finally accepted by Mr. Mistoffelees, Rum Tum Tugger, and the other cats it brought a tear to my eye. When Old Deuteronomy chose her, put his arm around her, and led her up the stairs I had tears in both eyes it was so touching. Every time I watch it,it has the same effect. The entire company should be commended. From Skimbleshanks to Macavity and from Jellyloram to Etcetra, as PBS titled it a Great Performance. I admit to being curious as to what the "CATS" look like without all that makeup, but for now I feel I am among old friends, and will continue to watch this VHS tape at least weekly 'till it wears out... Then I'll get another one.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Version of a Broadway Classic Review: I saw a travelling production of Cats and it didn't come close to this. Michael Gruber is the best Munkustrap I have seen yet, and John Partridge gave a fabulous invigorating performance as The Rum Tum Tugger. I also give kudos to cast members Jacob Brent, Rosemarie Ford, Aeva May, Drew Varley, Jo Gibb, Jason Gardiner, and Verlee Castelyn for creating some very memorable characters. The costumes, makeup, and wigs were wonderfully done, and the music was wonderful. I also give Elaine Paige a standing ovation for her heartfelt performance as Grizabella. I liked it so much that I learned how to sing Memory, Macavity, and several other songs as well as reading the original poems to my senior englich class and then showing them my video. They loved it and so do I.
Rating: Summary: Life to the Everlasting Cat!! Review: All I can say is...wow...I loved the VHS version of Cats. As one of those people who saw it on Broadway first, the video is a great way to bring back memories. It also gives you the chance to see facial expressions up close, and rewind great parts :-) Cast members who stick out (at least for me): John Partridge as Rum Tum Tugger (yummy! Good looking AND a great singer/dancer!); The fantastic Michael Gruber as Munkustrap (can't believe I missed him on Broadway..); Jacob Brent as The Magical Mr. Mistoffelees (this guy can DANCE!!), Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina; Aeva Mae as Demeter; Elaine Paige as Grizabella; Drew Varley and Jo Gibb as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer (and they WERE NOT DUBBED!! Those beautiful, amazing voices are their own!!); ok, the WHOLE CAST was great!! One or two notes tho.. there are some PG-13 moments. Some er...interesting closeups (butt shots during Macavity.. and er.. crotch shots during Rum Tum Tugger), a little blooper where Tugger curses Griz (thankfully only mouthed!), and risque scene during the Jellicle Ball. If you have kids under say, 7 or 8, please watch it with them. All in all, a great buy! I highly recommend it!!
Rating: Summary: CATS Rules and that's all there is to it! Review: Hey i think whoever dosn't like Leah Sue Morland has gone insane. She is one of the MOST adorable people i have EVER seen in my entire LIFE! She is Beautiful also. I hope she reads every word i say so she knows that I, Rebecca love her! :)
Rating: Summary: Jellicles Come To The Jellicle Ball Review: Meow! This video is "purr"fect. I'm a 15 year old male and I wish to star in this show one day. My choir class gave me a standing ovation when I performed Victoria's "Solo Dance" and the song "Macavity". I was wearing a "CATS" shirt, some tight black pants, black leather shoes, and I had a tail that I made out of feathers. My music teacher was so proud of me that he became my agent. Hopefully, one day, my dream will come true and I'll be starring in it. Only time will tell. *If You Touch Me, You'll Understand What Happiness Is. Look, A New Day Has... Begun!*
Rating: Summary: Amazingly Written Review: It was great! The Grizabella the Glamour Cat scenes made me want to cry (Grizabella, Grizabella, Memory). She yearned to be touched--by anyone. At the end of Act I, she sings 3 verses of Memory. She reaches out and is greeted by no hand. What she doesn't see is that Old Deuteronomy was reaching out for her. And, to give you and idea about how hurt she was that no one was touch her: "Touch me! It's so easy to leave me! All alone with my memories, of my days in the sun! If you touch me, you'll understand what happiness is! Look, a new day has begun." Then, she reaches back in one last effort and grimaces. Victoria, the white cat, reaches out and holds her hand. The grimace turns to a glowing smile. And, again, at the end of Act I, before she sings, she tries to dance. Because she wondered the outside world, which wan't kind to her, she can hardly walk. But, after watching the other Jellicles, she tries--and fails. I loved how arrogant the Rum Tum Tugger is--it was funny! And, I love Mister Mistoffolees, his costume, the music. Oh well, that's enough for now.
Rating: Summary: A good editing job Review: Thank God they cut GROWTIGERS LAST STAND! It alway's bothered me as it broke the action of the story! For those who don't know what I am talking about. Durring GUS, the Theater Cat (played excellently by Sir John Mills) in the stage production they break off with this mini play with in the play that has nothing to do with the rest of the show (long too!)So I say Good editing job on this one. Recomend it to all musical lovers
Rating: Summary: Elaine Paige revives her role as Grizabella Review: Im a 16 year old music student and i know alot about music.I have this video and i think its absoulutley wonderful the people that have their reveiws posted and ragged on the video have no taste in music or acting what so ever.I have been in numerous musicals at my school and at a theater where i live and am well know in my town for my voice and musical talent and am known for singing the song Memory and hitting Touch Me with alot of force behind it and im a guy but enough about me.I think Elaine Paige is amazing she is the best Grizabella ever and ive seen Betty Buckley perform the role and she doesnt even compare to the passion and feeling Ms.Paige puts into her work especially the song Memory Ms. Paige sings it with such ease and grace it makes me cry (and nothing makes me cry) her notes are hit with strength where there needed and soften where needed. She is combined with a wonderful cast such as Jacob Brent,Ken Page,Sir John Mills, and others. As for the person who said they have seen better than Elaine Paige i REALLY REALLY doubt it.Please email me if you have anr resources on Elaine Paige.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: Although I've seen CATS several times on stage, none of those performances compare to the video. I don't think Rosemarie Ford is getting the recognition she deserves and either is Rebecca Parker!!! They are both beautiful and amazingly talented women... I am going to play Bombalurina one day.
