Summary: About time
Review: I've been waiting a long time to get a look at the birth of the Joshua Tree. No other album can bring me someplace more vividly. Both as a period in my life, as well as a geographical place and atmosphere. This documentary does a wonderful job of breaking down the album, with the band and Lanois running through the original masters, listening to demos, and adding experiments to the mix that didn't quite make the cut. It's just a great insight into the album. The documentary met all my expectations (which were pretty high), and the only thing I wish is that it was longer. A few songs aren't covered, but the ones that are, are absolutely wonderful. It runs 60 minutes, which is about right for the price, but the content makes this nearly priceless.

Summary: A good framed
Review: I've got this DVD some months ago because I requested it to London. This DVD is only a making off of the Joshua Tree Album, so It hasn't the complete songs that it says. It's a very poor quality music DVD. Sincerously I wouldn't buy it.

Summary: This DVD needs to be revisited by the producers
Review: If you are considering buying this DVD, be warned that this is a documentary, not a video play of all the songs from the album. For this reason, I was most disappointed. The Joshua Tree is one of the best albums of all time, and I would have loved to experience it either as a concert or as a collection of video tracks. Not so on this DVD. Although this is a good documentary, it only runs for an hour and that also is a disappointment. The people who produced this DVD have been a bit mean in their offerings, me thinks. You think they could have done a lot more, given that this was such a great music CD, and given that you are paying top dollar for the DVD. On a positive note, the documentary explores how the songs were made and features good footage of the guys from the band reminiscing in the mixing room with Daniel Lanois on how the album was put together. But, on a sour note, some Joshua Tree songs get a run while others miss out altogether (eg the glorious "One Tree Hill"). Even the songs that are featured are not featured in their entirety, and this is really disappointing. I think there is definitely scope for the makers to revisit this DVD. By all means keep the footage that has been done (for it is good), but give us a video version of The Joshua Tree CD. Why not package a double DVD, with all the songs from the album presented as video tracks on one disc, and the documentary on a second disc. Now that would be really something! Come on, guys, get with it!

Summary: Torn between potential and reality
Review: If you're a big U2 fan this is a must-have. Unfortunately, it could have been SO much more.

On the positive side you'll see interviews with the integral players - U2, Lanois, Eno, Flood, etc. You'll see glimpses of how a record comes together - inspiration, song writing, studio mechanics and more. You'll also get a few unforgetable gems, like when Edge plays along with the recorded version of With or Without You.

On the negative side, you won't see a lot of interest from the participants: with the exception of Daniel Lanois - who appeared to really enjoy being in the spotlight for a change - most of the interviews felt forced. Bono, for example, never appeared comfortable throughout the entire piece.

My only other complaint is that everything was short. Every segment - particularly the good ones - was far too short, and I was surprised when the documentary came to the end rather quickly.

Having said all that, I do recommend this for true U2 fans. Afterall, a little of something good is better than none at all. However, don't be surprised when you're struck with the sensation of "what could have been."

Summary: U2 one of the best worldwide groups
Review: La historia es la siguiente, podemos concluir sin grandes preambulos que U2 es magnifico aun y con lo simple y surrelista de sus videos.

We can conclude that even that are simple videos with a surrealist view, u2 es a magnificent group

Summary: Dissapointed
Review: Look I love U2... I love the Joshua Tree Album. I thought this was a great Documentary. BUT...

It was a total mis-use of the DVD medium. If you are looking to create value for your fans (and get them off napster) and decide to release a DVD why not use the medium to the fullest. Build a DVD with all of the videos complete (no interview interruptions). Create a second audio track with the audio interviews. And create Bonus tracks with the video interviews. Add another bonus of the full audio tracks... and you got a great package for your fans.

Instead this was a DVD that was laid out like a PBS special. Granted it was a good PBS special, but it was not what I was buying. I watched this DVD once... and I will probably not watch it again... When I buy a video, I want to watch it over and over again... you can't do that for a music DVD that has songs and videos continuously interrupted by interviews.

Don't buy this unless you expect a documentary.

Summary: Why release this?
Review: Thankfully I received this item as a gift and didn't pay for it. This DVD is a huge rip-off. Yeah you get some behind the scenes stuff but that's about it. Where are all the videos? Where is the entire album? This item is for the Super Diehard fan who has to have everything no matter what. U2 is known for only releasing quality items and this is not one of those.
