Summary: The Grandaddy of all rockumentaries...
Review: This 1965 film broke the mold of what previously constituted a "rock documentary";and would hold that distinction for 5 years-until the Maysles Brothers' 1970 "Gimme Shelter" upped the ante a few notches. To this day,the "warts and all" approach of "Don't Look Back" outclasses most of the corporate MTV Info-mercials-Posing-As-Rockumentaries that clutter arthouses. Even a casual fan like myself ("Highway 61 Revisited" and "Blonde on Blonde" being the only two Dylan albums I find consistently listenable)cannot help but be awed by how confident and cognizant the young Dylan (barely into his 20's) appears to be in this movie. D.A. Pennebaker was certainly in the right place at the right time (and given access to the Right Guy!) to capture a pivotal and seminal moment in modern music history. One sublime scene of irony that no veteran comedy writer could have scripted so perfectly: Dylan's acerbic manager Albert Grossman kicks the snobby London hotel manager out after he complains other guests are upset over the "ruckus" in Dylan's suite (Yeah, could you please tell Joan Baez, Donovan and Bob Dylan to quit playing those noisy guitars and singing-I have to get up early!). Priceless.

Review: Can we talk? Bob Dylan is the coolest man in music. No, this isn't your sophomore's cool or your surfer's cool...this is cool in it's literal sense. No figure has made masculinity more beautiful since Hemingway. Come clean Bob: who's writing your life's script? Buy the movie if you want to. Yeah, I think that's what Bob would say.

Summary: Dylan Is Genius!
Review: Nowhere else will you ever see such a private look at Bob Dylan. As the camera follows him around on his 1965 tour of England, we get to hear actual, in depth conversations with Dylan, as he discusses his views, likes and dis-likes....and OH BOY, he sure does have a lot of dis-likes.Throughout the years, Bob Dylan has become so silent towards the media, it's a good idea for those of you who have never had the pleasure of hearing Dylan speak, to have a look at this classic documentary, which shows this very brilliant song writer, and all his Wisdom.

Review: If you are a Dylan fan, then you will have already seen Don't Look Back, but this is a great version of it. It has been well restored, and the extra scenes and commentary make it well worth seeing again (and owning). If you are not a Dylan fan - this is a must buy. Learn why so many people are enthralled with Bob's music, and see him while he was young and arguably at his best.

Summary: An excellent view of Dylan before he went electric
Review: Dylan's '65 London tour was one of the last acoustic tours before he went electric the following year at Newport. It's also a wonderful look at how the press treated Dylan and other musicians (e.g. the Beatles) during that time. Rolling Stone wasn't around in '65, let alone rock critics and reporters. Hence, Dylan was upset with how magazines like Time would present him.

Review: Dylan bickers and manipulates and taunts and intimdates but then he gets on stage and blows everyone away and then rejects a bevy of beautiful models so he can drink with his friends and write songs, a fine piece of cinema, everybody should get stoned for it

Summary: Learn the truth about the "Science Student"!
Review: If you're already a fan of this film, you'll know what I'm talking about, and will really appreciate the DVD for the bonus features. The commentary added a lot of information that was new to me. This movie remains fun to watch, even after repeated viewings. The audio track suppliments are another great extra on this disc.

Summary: Greatest Human EVER!
Review: Bobby-D is far and away the greatest singer/songwriter to ever walk the earth, and this video shows that and more. The film shows Dylan's intelligence and ability. He is simply the greatest thing since sliced bread, and that was pretty BIG! So get it, watch it, live it, love it, and share it. The world will be a much better place, and maybe influence a few more people to pick up a newspaper once in awhile, and pay attention to what's going on. Remember, "he not busy being born, is busy dyin'."

Summary: You don't have to be a Dylan fan to love this film
Review: I don't consider myself a big Dylan fan, but this film is so wonderfully evocative of this era that it completely transported me back in time. In the process, it taught me more than I ever knew about who Bob Dylan is and why is music is so important. I find myself putting it in my computer just to listen to the soundtrack while I work. I gave one as a gift to a friend who is Dylan fan and she has now taken to quoting the dialogue from the film!

Review: That this film is a classic pretty much goes without saying. What might be worth mentioning, even to the converted, is that the DVD appears to be multi-region, not region 1.
