Summary: Sarah indulges herself...
Review: ...and breaks the mold of what a performance should be.
This is my first Sarah B video and it is different to say the least. Very theatrical and lavish with some scenes that put her in a class of her own. I do love it however but like every one of the music videos I own there are synching problems. It would seem technology could figure out a way to keep multiple cameras synched or at least a better editing job. (Another video with bad synching is Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball)After watching it three times I've decided that she truly is singing all the songs but there has been some post concert enhancement of the audio portion.
I would really be upset if they dubbed her on this one because she does have a beautiful voice and presence.
The video/audio quality is excellent in my view and the richness of color on the DVD really makes this one a feast for the eyes.

Summary: One night In Eden is imaginative, with par performances
Review: The purpose of concert videos are to visually enhance a CD and to make the video an extra treat. Merely doing a play-by-play of the CD's songs without anything extra is pointless. One Night In Eden thus succeeds only partway, as the concert relies heavily on visuals and not on the songs themselves.Viewers who were enchanted at the Royal Albert Hall concert will get a surprise here. For one thing, Sarah's hair is all wavy. For another, she sways around quite a bit, slowly waving her arms and body in a slow shimmy. And she employs some bare-bodied male dancers, (q.v. Mae West, Madonna, Bananarama, etc.) Not something I would have expected from her. A group of these are dressed in cloaks as the monks chanting when "Eden" is performed, and then they whip off the cloaks and grappling and lifting Sarah up as she sings. The curtains are red to keep in line with the album cover, and the lighting alters from red to blue, depending on the song. The material presented here is predominantly from Eden, but she does incorporate some other songs, such as "Who Wants To Live Forever," where her long brown mane waves through a gentle breeze, a block of Phantom of the Opera material, including "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Music Of The Night." I hope she keeps on singing that song to remind A.L. Webber that it was originally intended for HER. After "Time To Say Goodbye," that must be her other signature tune. She takes a dive into some Dive material (pardon the pun), with "Captain Nemo" and "La Mer." This latter number is imaginative as she used a swirling blue transparent curtain and lighting to create an oceanic, underwater effect, of that "magnificent blue." She and two dancers are suspended by wires, "swimming" away. Sarah's performs "Il Mio Cuore Va" standing on a guard rail meant to duplicate the Titanic. Okay, no problem figuring that out. "The First of May" is my favorite performance here, as it snows down on her. That song is also very enchanting and one essential to any Brightman fan's library. And of course, what concert would be complete without "Time To Say Goodbye"? Sung solo this time. It stands to reason. She can't go around lugging Andrea Bocelli. "Oy, Andrea, pack your suitcase. I'm on tour." The interview following the concert is more illuminating, as I found out more about Sarah. She is indeed a romantic by nature, always seeing the positive side of things; that makes her an Idealist. It doesn't take much to please her, but she is self-critical, and that's the Artisan part of her. What a lovely personality! And she is right on the mark when trying to sing songs in their original language. It's akin to losing the essence of the language in foreign movies subtitled in English. Thank you, thank you, for not doing "Time To Say Goodbye" in English and doing it in that rich, fluid Italian.
Her design of the stages is her imagination come alive, and through that, she gives a lot of herself to her audience. I know she did to me. Next stop, the moon, La Luna, that is.

Summary: Been There, Done That
Review: I absolutely loved seeing Sarah Brightman live in concert. This DVD helps me to remember all the little things that fascinated me from my seat in the theatre. I will now never be able to forget how and why I was on the edge of my seat for two hours. If you like Sarah, this is a no-brainer. You'll love this dvd.

Review: (...) This is a great video from an artist who clearly puts her all into whatever she does. The interview at the end of the VHS version is nice to have, too. One point about the audience reaction shots shown in the video - or should I say 'unreaction'. Wow, what a cold audience Sarah got landed with for this performance! Check out the large block of the audience in the centre front who sat arms folded tightly throughout. Spooky... This is definitely a video that you can and will play over and over again. Oh, have to go - Il Mio Cuore va is on again...

Review: Yes, definitely - ignore the Editorial Review (which I think could do without the unkind personal comments about Sarah Brightman's "pudgy" figure...). This is a great video from an artist who clearly puts her all into whatever she does. The interview at the end of the VHS version is nice to have, too. Summary: Good Disc if it were made with La Luna standards
Review: I liked this DVD a lot, but not as much as her La Luna. She still performs very well, but the DVD menus and navigation are not as great. No lyrics feature. A person in an earlier review is right; her voice does get drowned out sometimes. I think the guy who said she is lip-synching is wrong, I don't notice it. However, I still enjoyed everything else.

Summary: [Losethe Sound Man!
Review: I saw the live concert. It was breathtaking. I also love the Eden CD. It's Brightman at her very best. But I regret to say that the only way to truly enjoy this concert video is to play the CD while watching the video with the sound turned off. The sound on the DVD is very poor. There also seems to be no balance. Sarah's voice gets drowned out in many places.

Review: Seems that more people agree with us, Marshall. She doesn't have to have a Julie Andrews-type solo career to have been THIS famous. And since this VHS/DVD went gold in the USA apparently she must have done something right. The concert itself is very lavishly done, and on first view some of you will realize why this concert tour was so successful. The point I'm trying to make is that Sarah is a girl who aims to please and never fails. Some people like me don't personally care for Barbra Streisand and people like her at all. No offense is meant but would YOU think any of their concerts would be as entertaining as Sarah B's are?
