Summary: PRETTY MUCH THE SAME MOVIE.
Review: "Analyze That" follows almost exactly the same patterns that the original movie set. And perhaps that's not too bad, because we got another amusing movie from the duo De Niro / Crystal. The movie is funny, but for some reason we get the feeling that "Analyze That" could have been even better. This comedy has the right ingredients: Billy Crystal, one of the best comedians of his generation, Robert De Niro, the best actor of his generation, and a very charismatic supporting cast, including Lisa Kudrow.Crystal and De Niro reprise their roles as a therapist and mob-boss patient, and of course they are the main reason why this movie has funny moments, Crystal plays the funny guy and De Niro plays the though guy, only this time he turns -apparently- into an old softy singing guy. De Niro isn't the typical comedian, we are used to see him as a mobster, but not as a singing mobster, so when he sings, we laugh. "Analyze That" offers some laughs, not too many, but this sequel still can be considered as an amusing comedy, of course, we get the sensation that could have been even better, but if you liked the first one, you'll like "Analyze That".

Review: I don't see the deal with everyone saying it's a bad movie. It's not bad at all, infact I almost perfer Analyze That over Analyze This. If you haven't seen this, I'd reccomend atleast renting it. It doesn't have as many 'laughing out loud' parts, but it still is a great comedy.

Review: While visiting some family in Utah a few years ago we decided to rent a few movies to pass the unforgivably hot mid-summer weather. We ended up renting "Analyze That" and boy, what a mistake that was! We were expecting at least a mildly funny sequel to 1999's "Analyze This." The potential was there, it's not as if writers (of course it's never a good sign to see numerous writers) Peter Tolan, Peter Steinfeld, and Harold Ramis didn't have decent material to work with; Robert DeNiro, Billy Crystal, Lisa Kudrow, and a funny and entertaining plotline regarding mobsters and therapy. However, this being Hollywood and all, another sequel was botched. It's because of movies like these that sequels have such a bad reputation.
Despite a few genuine laughs in the first twenty minutes or so regarding DeNiro and some "fish out of water" situations, the movie seemed to go downhill soon after. The jokes became few and between as the film laboriously plowed its way through an over-the-top heist setup and execution that felt about as inspired as "Crossroads." Now either they ran out of jokes, they didn't have enough time to invest in an actual story, or the material itself has been played out in so many different ways already ("The Sopranos", "The Whole 9 Yards", "Mickey Blue Eyes", etc. etc.), that there was simply nothing left to write about.

Summary: A painfully unfunny and unnecessary sequel
Review: Analyze That reunites the main cast from Analyze This and opens with Paul Vitti (De Niro) in prison and he wants out. What's he do to get out? Fakes insanity of course. How's he do that? By singing West Side Story songs. No, I'm not kidding. And the movie just gets worse from there. Vitti is placed into the caring hands of his old pal Dr. Sobel (Billy Crystal) and laughs are nowhere to be found. I honestly think I only laughed once during the whole 96 minutes that actually felt more like 179 minutes. There's a small scene where Vitti is trying to take on normal jobs, but his mafia mindset causes a few chuckles. That's about all that's funny in this disaster. A good subtitle for the movie would be "Cashin' the Paycheck". That's all everyone seems to be doing in the flick. Everyone just seems so miserable, and with that cloud hanging over things laughter can't develop. A comedy without laugher is a total failure, and if it were for those extremely rare moments in this flick there it is possible to dig up something funny, Analyze That would be a failure.
In the end, it's a sequel to a simply average comedy that lacks any of the sparks or intelligence that kept the original from total despair.

Summary: Quintesential Mafioso Comedy, With Laughs & Obviously Fans!
Review: The fact that Analyze That has as dreary average as three stars bemuses me. Ok I won't give it five but it's funny and entertaining, and it's got DeNiro. Billy Crystal has a habit of annoying me in many of his films, but here...he's good - 'your good you, your good!' - and DeNiro obviously frames this film.
After being put in prison Paul Vitti (DeNiro) claims insanity, a cry for Dr. Ben Sobel's (Crystal) help. Sobel agrees that he is insane and will take him in his custody, little does he know Vitti has a plan...
There are some truely hilarious moments, for example DeNiro walks downstairs in Crystal's house, Jewish majority, with just a dressing gound showing his privates. He then claims - 'what ya gotta do for some bacon round here eh?' Joe Viterelli is superb as the slow moving, slow thinking original mobster named 'Jelly' who really brings a spark to the show. Along with some other good performances from Lisa Kudrow and Brian Rogalski the film is set.
Honestly funny, disagree with the mass one/two star reviews.

Summary: This is why sequels have such a bad reputation
Review: The only reason I'm reviewing this movie now is because I just watched it on TV today. And the only reason I watched it was because nothing else was on. So...
No, let's be fair. I did enjoy Analyze This, I really did, though it wasn't a masterpiece that would remain with me for the rest of my life, or even for the rest of the day. And I do love both Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro; they made a fantastic comedic duo in the first movie. I didn't have very high expectations, though, because I rarely expect too much of sequels. Once again, I was proven right.
Analyze That illustrates perfectly why `sequel' sounds like such a dirty word. The original film had a spark of originality; the sequel merely takes the same idea and the same jokes and tries to make them funny again. But of course, that could never work. It's the same problem with almost every comedic sequel: those who haven't seen the original wouldn't understand the jokes, and those who have already heard them before. And that is why they fail time after time.
So what does this movie have? A great comedic duo, a couple of really funny guys. Yeah, and? Fathers' Day had an even better pair, look what happened to that. A couple of good mafia jokes? Sure, sure. I even cracked a smile on several occasions. But that isn't enough. There are thousands of comedy films out there; not many of them have that special something that makes them memorable, and producers think they'll improve their odds by recycling the ones that work instead of trying to get new ideas. Newsflash: think again. Nobody watches these movies. There's no reason to when you can just watch the original again.

Summary: A Few Good Laughs
Review: Analyze That features two good performances from Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro. Its kind of refreshing to see De Nero doing comedic work. The parts where De Nero's character acts out scenes from West Side Story are quite funny. Crystal gives us his usual amusing schtick about self guilt particulalry in the relationships with his late father and wife. The story however is helter skelter where De Nero's mob boss character seems to shift gears too much from amusing fool to hard ass mob boss and all points in between. This can be more annoying than funny although there are some cute moments. However, there is little variation from the Jelly's character gives the film a light hearted touch. Therefore, this movie stands in the middle of the pack.
