Summary: A Special Edition that is TRULY Special
Review: If you think the best movies are the ones that show you a world you've never envisioned before, then you will LOVE Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas". A benchmark in stop-motion animation, this incredibly difficult-to-make film (24 individually posed frames were needed to produce ONE SECONDS's worth of action) is a masterpiece of art direction, set design, and good old-fashioned storytelling. The plot revolves around Jack, the Pumpkin King of Halloween, and his attempt to run Christmas in place of Santa Claus. "Sleigh" becomes confused with "slay"; "stockings" become "stalkings"; and spirits go from joyous to ghostly as the two holidays clash together like oil and water, or fire and ice. One of the great surprises of the movie is that although it dances around material that could easily careen into cynicism, it remains refreshingly sweet and light throughout. Which is not to say that some of the comedy isn't a little dark and perhaps geared more towards older children and adults; for example, the brief scene in which a python puppet is shown swallowing a Christmas tree whole is hysterically funny, but not especially appropriate for the very young.

The special edition DVD is unquestionably the version of this classic to buy. Included are a wealth of extras: the teaser and theatrical trailers; a documentary on "The Making of ..."; deleted scenes and storyboards, etc, etc. The best bonuses are two short films by Burton: "Vincent", a poetic tribute to the magnificent Vincent Price, narrated by the subject himself; and "Frankenweenie", a canine send-up of "Frankenstein", starring Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern, and a cast of talented character actors. This DVD is one that you can spend HOURS exploring happily! Highly recommended as both a Halloween and Christmas treat.

Summary: Great DVD
Review: This DVD is great! The bonus materials included on this DVD are well worth the extra cost. The two shorts (Victor and Frankenweenie) and the "Making of..." are all worth the time to watch.

Summary: Destined to be a classic
Review: I saw this movie when it came out in the theaters back in 1993, and bought the dvd two years ago. It has been viewed quite a few times, and I never tire of it.
"Nightmare" has great music, some haunting and some fun("What's this is my personal favorite), great animation, and I love the story.
Jack Skellington, the pumpkin King, is the main character. At the end of Halloween he is all in a tither as to what to do next? The next major holiday with a figure is Christmas. Wwhile wondering in the woods, he discovers the gateways to other holidays. He falls into "Christmas Town" and is in awe.
He comes up with the idea of stealing Christmas as he isn't in the mood to wait around for the next Halloween. After discovering Christmas, Jack spends half his time trying to figure it all out and understand it.
This film is a bit dark, and I certainly don't recommend it as a family film. I say parents should watch it first, alone, then decide for themselves if they think their children will be okay with it. There are some scary ghoulish images.
I personally think it's an adult movie, with it's dark humor and imagery.
Decide for yourself..it is worth it.

Summary: Bad and Scary
Review: Innovative, imaginative, macabere stop-motion-animation about the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who finds himself enthralled with Christmas.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: This is a great movie. The stop-motion animation is very well done, the storyline is new and interesting, the music is wonderful and some of it catchy, and the characters are awesome. I am speechless! Hehe. I love the style of this movie.. the talent that went into making it blows my mind. Stop-motion that good.. that is hard stuff! I also recommend the soundtrack for this film!

I love this movie for a couple of my main reasons for loving anything.. 1) it takes you to a captivating world that is both familiar and new, and 2) the characters are lovable! Perhaps lovable is the wrong word in this case.. but they are interesting and easy to like. Though the characters aren't incredibly deep they are unique and fascinating.

Jack Skellington strikes me as two things, a very admirable guy with extreme talent, confidence, and ability, and under all that as well as under his scary demeanor, he has a good heart. You have to admire a guy with so many facets who ALSO can survive a direct hit from an anti-aircraft cannon, leap with dazzling speed through sets of twirling knives, and of course, work those 'ghost-like charms' to their fullest extent..

Summary: what's the point?
Review: I guess I don't see how Christmas and Halloween come together.
It may be a little funny, but not worth the time taken to watch it.

Summary: Wonderful, beautiful film is appropriate for all ages
Review: This movie has somthing for everyone. It is fantastic. It has music, dark comedy, wonderful visuals, a great score, bizarre chracters, and lots of imagination. This is by far one of the most imaginative films made in the last ten years. Tim Burton's ideas, along with Henry Selick's direction, and Danny Elfman' score, this movie became one of the best animated films ever made. Only Tim Burton could create something that is so equally chilling and childlike. the film may be too scary for very young children, but for kids seven on through ninety-seven, this is a treat for your senses. The extras are wonderful as well. Vincent is Tim Burton's directorial debut and it is fascinationg to see the influence of his work on this film. Like I said, only Tim can do this kind of work. His genius is equal parts David Lynch and Dr. Seuss. Disturbing and charming. He is a brilliant mind and this movie offers a rare showcase of that creativity. One of my all-time favorites and a pleasure from start to finish.
