Rating: Summary: Fabulous!! A wonderful two hours!! Great entertainment!! Review: Watched this video with several friends -- on a Bose system -- and it was fabulous. Several times all of us felt that our breath had been taken away with the sheer talent on that stage.
Rating: Summary: This is by far the greatest Andrew Lloyd Webber collection!! Review: I have never been a huge fan of Sir Andrew. With the exception of Phantom and Joseph, I found his work redundant. This video gives a wonderful fresh look at his work. I manage a video store and watch "A Celebration..." several times a week just so I can watch Lottie Mayor sing "Whistle Down the Wind". My employees affectionately call her "that cute little squinty-eyed girl" on whom their boss has a crush.
Rating: Summary: Michael Ball stole the show! Review: This video turned me into an adoring Michael Ball fan. All of his songs are great, but Gethsemane was breathtaking. I also loved Elaine Paige's version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina and Memory. Also loved seeing Boyzone perform. After seeing Antonio Banderas and Sarah Brightman perform the Phantom of the Opera, I reinforce my opinion that Michael Crawford is the one and only phantom. This is a must see video, I only wish that they could have listed the performers for each song.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely breathtaking! Review: I would have loved to see this concert in person, but the video (hopefully to follow on DVD) is the next best thing. Wonderful performances by everyone. It was powerful and a pleasure to watch! Sarah, of course, was wonderful! Antonio wasn't half bad, considering he was sick that day. Elaine and Glenn were fantasic. Kiri gave a wondeful performance singing a song from part two of Phantom. Even Boyzone was good.
Rating: Summary: The artists are great (especially Donny Osmond) Review: I love this video!!! I originally bought it just because Donny Osmond sings in it but after words I loved the entire tape. (well...almost the entire tape) The songs are well performed. I definitly recommend this.
Rating: Summary: I caught this on PBS Review: It is too bad that they don't list credits, but the PBS version did. For those who are wondering, the young woman who sings the final version of "Whistle Down the Wind" is Lottie Mayer. I believe she is also the star of the London play.
Rating: Summary: Excellent entertainment. Review: The music and the performers were fantastic. My husband and I had never heard of Boyzone before, but after their performance in this special, we are fans and have purchased other music by this talented group of 5 young men. All the songs were truly remarkable. It is a credit to Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has composed some of the best music of this century. Well worth the price. Even if higher priced, it would be worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Serendipity. Review: I stumbled across this video by accident, on a fund raising program for my local PBS station. I began to watch out of curiosity, having never been fond of Broadway musicals. But from Donny Osmond's opening performance straight through to the end credits I was mesmerized. The talent, passion and music were fabulous. Now I know I need to learn more about this art form. One more thing: Everyone who performed at this concert should be proud of their work, and that includes Mr. Banderas.
Rating: Summary: Great video, but there's one thing that's missing... Review: I loved the video ever since I got it, with its wide variety of songs. Tina Arena has an outstanding voice for "Whistle Down the Wind", and Michael Ball is my favorite of that video, with "Gethsemane". Glenne Close and Boyzone rocked too! Sarah Brightman, although she is older from when she played Christine in 'The Phantom of the Opera', still can reach that high E - but as for Antonio, I don't think he could pull it off in the new movie. He doesn't have as great as a voice that's close to the "one thing that's missing...". MICHAEL CRAWFORD.
Rating: Summary: Most enjoyable, with exceptions. Review: I have to admit, I bought this video out of curiosity. A long-time fan of Andrew Lloyd-Webber, I wanted to see how the original stars performed the music. I had also heard of the notorious appearance of Antonio Banderas and was curious about that. He is the only blot on this otherwise lovely performance video. It is beyond me how anyone can accept a performance like Banderas' in a classically styled play such as Phantom of the Opera. Anathema! With Michael Crawford singing the Phantom songs on this video it would have been perfect-- a hundred stars! Unfortunately, he was unavailable for the Celebration.
