Summary: It's a great teaser for those who have not yet seen Les Mis.
Review: I have seen Les Miserables three times in three different cities. I loved this concert edition featuring great actors from several casts. I wish we could actually buy the true show on VHS casette. This video is a great teaser for those who have not yet seen the show and it is a great collection piece for those who love the music and the memories of Les Miserables. The show is uplifting and inspiring and Victor Hugo has given the world a great role model in Jean Val-Jean.

Summary: Dissapointing Technical Quality
Review: Having the laser disc version of this album, I was looking forward to seeing the potentially better video and audio quality of the DVD version. I was, however, very disappointed. The audio quality is not as good as the laser disc version and my copy of the DVD version was plagued with audio dropouts. The audio tracks could have been remastered in 5.1 but were not. The video quality of the DVD version is no better than the laser disc version. The producers of the DVD product should be embarrased and ashamed! On the positive side, the performances of the "dream cast" are simply marvelous. If you are looking for an album of Les Miserables, the musical, you probably won't find a better one; but I would recommend the laser disc over the DVD if you want the highest technical quality.

Summary: A must for Les Mis fanatics!!!
Review: You can't beat live stage performance, but this is a must have for a fan. The musical, of course, is a beautiful adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel, and I think Les Mis is far more inspiring and awsome than any Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. This movie, unfortunately, is not a live recording of a stage performance, but it does show some clips from the real thing. Nevertheless, it's a treat. And seeing Colm Wilkinson sing with 16 or some other international Valjeans almost brings tears to my eyes.

Review: The cast totally steal the show and make up for the lack of "on-stage theatrics." If you do not own this film it is a must for ones video library. The cast members sing with such passion and heart that you can feel the emotions and create the images in your head. It is that powerful and moving.

Review: THE BEST EVER MUSICAL- PHILIP QUAST AND COLM WILKINSON ARE PERFECT IN THEIR APPEARANCE AS VALJEAN AND JAVERT AS WELL AS THE WHOLE CAST-DEFINITELY THE DREAM CAST. IF EVER THERE ARE TO BE ANOTHER ANNIVERSARY CONCERT , I'LL BE THERE.

Summary: Excellent, except for quality
Review: This was an excellent performance of the wonderful Les Miserables. It sent chills down my spine. The only thing that could've been better is the quality of video. Because it was already remastered for LaserDisc, it could've easily been remastered for DVD. If you aren't into quality and love this musical, buy it.

Review: You'd be better off with the 2CD live recording. The concert is not visually stunning at all, no real acting comes through as all the performers do is stand before their microphones and sing. But then again, this is *the* Les Miz dream cast, and all the performers are perfect for their roles, especially Lea Salonga, Ruthie Henshall, Philip Quast and Colm Wilkinson. Personally, however, I have seen and heard better Thenardiers and Cosettes than the ones here. The 17 Valjeans are amazing though. Buy it if you must, just remember that you've been warned.

Summary: I can only rate it 5 stars?
Review: The overall video is beyond words although "The Final Battle" might have been better at a faster pace. But that HARDLY detracts from the overall extreme pleasure of watching this masterpeice! This is the closest many of us will get to actually seeing the greatest of all musicals (although I've personally seen it on tour though I want to see it on broadway). The actors and actresses are all well suited to thier roles. Colm Wilkenson: enough said. . . Philip Quast: THE definitive Javert.Ruthie Henshall: Far and away the best suited voice for Fantine! Jenny Galloway: A deliciously funny Mme Thenardier! Allun Armstrong: Though I don't like the way he delivers the words as much as some others who perform his role he is VERY well suited and I LOVE his expressions! Lea Solanga: A tragically beautiful Eponine. I have a hard time deciding between her, Francess Ruffelle Kaho Shimada, and Angela Pupello as my favorite Eponine! Michael Ball: Again...Enough said. Michael Maguire: I simply cannot decide between him and Anthony Warlow for my favorite Enjolras (who is also my favorite character)! Judy Khun: While others may disagree, I think she's the BEST Cossette! Hear her on the Broadway recording! Anthony Crivello: Though I like Kenny Daquilla's voice better for Grantair, Anthony just seems more like him. A very pleasing performance! Adam Searles: You gotta love this kid! He IS Gavroche! Hannah Chick: Though she is only in 2 songs (she's young Cossette) she deserves high recognition for not messing up at all(!) when a balloon suddenly pops during her solo (that's no easy task)! In all, you won't be sorry! Oh if only they could've performed the entire score! Or better yet, done something like this with the casts from every production (i.e. Broadway, London etc.)!

Summary: DVD or what?
Review: The merits of the performances contained in this concert cannot be argued. It is simply marvelous and will serve as an apt intro to those who haven't seen the Broadway show and a pleasant reminder to those who have. Technically, Mr. Macintosh (sic) used to be more demanding of his technical people. The audio is so-so and not up to DVD standards. Stereo yes, multiple digital stereo.....NO! The picture quality leaves much, much, too much to be desired. Grainy parallel columns (much like interference patterns)are evident in many of the dark background scenes. DVD is notable for its truly black, blacks and "no snow" backgrounds and dark scenes. In many scenes a ghost image appears to the right of the singer. Come on gentelmen! You ask top dollar and then do a half job? I cannot recommend this one on DVD...save some and buy the VHS version. It is superior...and it shouldn't be!
