Summary: The Red Shoes, A.K.A. All That Jazz
Review: All That Jazz is a 70's version of the film classic "The Red Shoes" in which Joe Gideon has to choose show biz over life itself. The Red Shoes cast Victoria to her death; show biz decides Joe's fate. Symbolism in this film includes the Lady in White, who is Death, whom Joe confides in and flirts with. The clearer she becomes, the closer Joe is to choosing death. When she touches Joe, his life is over. I watch this film several times a year and recommend it as one of the best films ever!

Review: This is one of the best soundtracks EVER. The music--in light of the film--is funny in the most ironic sense. The last song is true show stopper. The film was both one of the most serious musicals ever made and also one of the funniest statements about death ever out on celuloid.

Review: i really dug the openness of BOB FoSSE.he was flawed and IndulGent but also a Genius.the dancing is wonderful in this film.the film is still quite Remarkable to me after all of these years.Roy Scheider does a solid job here.

Review: Great story of the dark side of showbiz and self-absorption. In my opinion the dance sequences are too long--a good 15 or 20 minutes could be cut from this movie. But don't let that stop you from seeing this very well-acted and directed movie.

Review: I hate musicals. I was in New York last month and i saw 'The phantom of the opera' and i said: "ok why everyone is getting so excited with all this stuff?". Thats the problem with musicals they are basically naive. "All that jazz" was the only exception i've seen, a musical that has very very deep meaning and still having top music and dance.

Review: okay, I didn't think I'd like it judging from the title, but this movie is so odd! A trippy and sometimes terrifying look at showbiz and its indulgences, told through Gideon's dreams and hallucinations during a life-threatening operation. I haven't seen much of Bob Fosse's work (just this film on cable TV), but the success of this "art imitating life" musical only tempts me to delve deeper into his world. great, weird, wonderful film...

Review: I saw the movie originally when it was shown on T.V., my two girls also watched. (Even tho they did not understand parts of it, thank goodness!) I rate the film 5-STARS. The dancing is absolute Fosse, it cannot be mistaken for anyone else. The scenery, the costumes, the acting are all first rate! I am now ordering the video so I will be able to view it over and over. There is always some thing new and wonderful to discover

Summary: One of a kind. A must see for jazz and dance lovers!!
Review: Some films are universally recognized for leading in particular areas. Shane is the definite western. Casablanca is the definite romance story. All that Jazz defines a group all its own, and that makes is great. If you've seen the play 'Chicago', then you'll probably recognize many of the dance settings in the movie.

Summary: Still ahead of his time
Review: Nearly 20 years later, nothing compares to the peculiar, get-wrenching honesty that we view in Bob Fosse's masterwork ALL THAT JAZZ. He reinvents the rules of cinematography as well as the rules of the movie musical. This is a film constructed of beautiful pictures. Each a photograph that could be removed from it's cell and framed. Every shot is masterfully considered and constructed. On this film, more than any other, Fosse knew the material. Any writer will tell you "write what you know." The reason this film excells on so many levels is that Bob Fosse looks at himself with teeth bared, sparing nothing. He strips himself, his life, his work bare, leaving the viewer conciously aware of viewing a surgery...both metaphorically and actually. This film is not for anyone. Only the truly educated can appreciate the overwhelming truth and power of this film. I have seen it a dozen times, and with each viewing new things appear. For those that want to learn, Fosse left his lesson book open on the table.
