Summary: A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
Review: My granddaughter took me to the movie Chicago last night ! There has been such a dearth of movie musicals the last few years, and I went in the theatre preparing to be disappointed. But I was not at all disappointed ! In fact...I can hardly wait until the video comes out and I can own it and re-watch it many times. Also the sound track on cd ! Then I can put on Bob Fosse's music and dance and prance around the house (when nobody is looking !) At 64 I look forward to enjoying such good music to prance around to !

Wonderful music...lots of laughs...a "keeper"... !

If you're not into critiquing each and every thing...and just want to a good old movie musical coming away feeling better...then don't miss this movie !

Summary: A wonderful cinematic experience
Review: I admit I was highly skeptical when the casting for this movie was announced. Richard Gere? Queen Latifiah? Renee Zellweger??? It didn't help that for the past couple of decades Hollywood has really screwed up most of the few musicals that they have attempted (Diana Ross as a 30-something schoolteacher Dorothy in The Wiz still makes my teeth and head ache).

But one day, bored and feeling kind of down I decided to check out what the fuss was about. Wow, what a surprise.

From the opening scenes and notes of All That Jazz, the movie grabbed me and never let go. Much has been said about the talents of Catherine Zeta Jones and I agree. But for me, the real revelation was Renee Zellweger, an actress I had previously dismissed as one of those personalities who achieved celebrity by default. Granted Zellweger lacks the experience and polish of Zeta Jones but for someone who has never sung or danced before, I found her performance to be outstanding. Her renderings of Funny Honey and Nowadays are beautifully effective.

Queen Latifah was also great as Mama Morton and you'll be humming Cell Block Tango well after you leave the theater. John C. Reilly's Mr. Cellophane is another highlight. Richard Gere was adequate but his was the weakest role.

I can't wait for the DVD.

Summary: It's the best made movie I've ever seen. . .
Review: I am a huge movie freak, and i have seen just about ever movie ever made, Chicago is one of the best directed films ever, if not the best. I totally urge you to see this movie. IT'S THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: All that jazz--and a bag of chips
Review: I'll make this brief: Yeah, it deserved all the academy awards it won. Catherine Zeta Jones is more brilliant as an actress and dancer than she is sexy in this film. The direction is immaculate. Richard Gere is compassionate and great in a perfect against type role for him. Rene Zellweger is magnificent. And Queen Latifa unexpectedly steals almost every scene she's in.

Oh yeah, and the music, dancers and choreography...are out of this world.

Welcome back movie musical; welcome home.

Summary: One of the best ever
Review: This is such a great movie! Even if you're not a fan of musicals, you have to see it. The comedic value alone is enough reason to see it.

Summary: Movie Stars Can Sing And Dance Too!
Review: I absolutly loved this movie. I saw it with my sisters and I had a blast. I can't wait till it comes on DVD. I was very impressed with all the singing and dancing. The plot was funny and spicy. It had very interesting costumes, scenery, and dance moves. I reccomend it to anyone who loves a really funny musical movie. I was practicly dancing in my seat. After the movie I had to go out and by the soundtrack. I've listened to it so many times, I know all the songs by heart. I was very impressed with everything in the movie. I hope it wins a lot of Oscars, it trully deserves them all!

Summary: Way Over-rated (this is year's Titanic)
Review: I absolutely LOVED the big screen musical Moulin Rouge, so I went to see Chicago wanting to like it as well. I was very disappointed. The story is just a celebration of corruption. I left the theater feeling that the world was screwed up.
Bottom line: bad story-line & frighteningly cheesy singing and dancing. Don't even rent it.

Summary: The best movie we have seen in years
Review: The title of this review is no exaggeration this movie was truly amazing. While it highlighted the musical and dancing talents of its stars not just one person in this movie shined they all did. This movie based on the Broadway musical is better than the musical ever was. This movie was able to take the vision that the writer had and bring it to life in a way that the musical never could. It was able to clearly separate reality from fantasy with dazzling dance numbers, fantastic music terrifically performed by the stars. This movie is one of the best movies we have seen in years and it is not even in the same league of alot of the dribble that Hollywood has been subjucting to us. Even if you hate musicals go to this movie just to see the cell block tango, it was amazing. If this movie does not sweep the Oscars then the Oscars have some serious explaining to do. And Richard Gere Should have been nominated for an Oscar as well he was excellent.

Summary: AMAZING MOVIE
Review: I have now seen this movie SIX times and I am still not tired of it. This is the most amazing movie I have ever seen. As someone who doesn't usually like musicals, I went to this movie with the expectation that I wouldn't be that impressed. Boy, was I wrong. The actors are great. Each and every one of them did tremendous jobs with the singing, dancing, and acting. I was especially impressed with Richard Gere's performance as opportunistic lawyer Billy Flynn. I also am not usually a fan of Richard Gere, but he is an incredible singer and actor. . . . there was also a terrific tap dance number that made me fall in love with him! I was also surprised at the talent that was demonstrated by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, and Queen Latifah. The direction in this movie was also the best I have ever seen, especially for a musical. . . this director definately deserves an Oscar for this one! As an obsessed fan, I also own the soundtrack and would definately call it the best soundtrack I have ever heard! So if you haven't seen this movie, you are missing out. The acting, dancing, singing, the costumes. . . there isn't one bad part in the entire movie!

Summary: Almost as good as the Broadway show
Review: My very first Broadway show ever was Chicago, starring Gwen Vernon, Chita Rivera (who also appears in this movie) and Jerry Orbach.
That was almost 30 years ago. This movie is a remarkable and excellent adaptation of that show. Although I still don't think that Richard Gere can really dance, I do believe he did an excellent job of convincing the audience that he actually can and did. (I sat through the movie twice to determine if he really was dancing.) I believe that Catherine Zeta-Jones deserves the Academy award for her performance in this movie. She was truly outstanding in her performance.
