Review: Chicago although is a very good musical but MOULIN ROUGE WAS FAR BETTER and SOUND OF MUSIC WAS BETTER THAN BOTH OF THEM do not forget the best family oscar winning movie out of the list!Chicago has it's original songs but it was a bit dark and Moulin Rouge!didn't have any original song I think besides COME WHAT MAY and Moulin Rouge! was so colorful it's so nice, superb! spectacular spectacular!if Chicago won Best Picture this should have won!Remember Chicago fans Moulin Rouge was the whole reason why Chicago was made and won Best Picture they honored the Best picture to Chicago because they didn't let MOULIN ROUGE WIN! By the way, SOUND OF MUSIC is superb!very nice! sometimes the kids these years don't appreciate THE SOUND OF MUSIC!

Review: Chicago I thought was a wonderful movie. I loved it. ... I still think each actor did a wonderful job with the songs and the story line even if it seem simplistic to some.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I saw Chicago in the Theatre two days after it came out. I have been a fan of Chicago the musical for years. I really loved this film. I do wish they had not cut a few songs and hide some of the secrets. I did really enjoy Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma and Richard as Billy (even though I normally hate him). The show stealers for me were John C. Reily and Queen Latifah. I do not think this is the greatest musical movie of all times, but is a good one. If you love musical theatre try listening to the London Cast Revival with Ute Lemper as Velma and Ruthie Henshall as Roxie. They are both truely amazing. The Broadway Revival cast with Bebe Neuwirth as Velma is supurb too. If you like musical theatre...you will LOVE Chicago!!!

Summary: Can't wait until August 29.....
Review: I was sorely disappointed to see the release date for this DVD moved until AUGUST.....but I guess the movie's still quite popular, and continues to be screened in theaters (still in the top 20, five months after release), so I'm not surprised that they'd like to milk the theater audience as much as they can before turning to us "faithfuls" for another influx of cash later in the summer.

There have been a lot of comparisons to Moulin Rouge, which are not totally fair. There are some key differences:
1) Moulin Rouge has modernized cinematography, with blindingly-fast zooms and the like--Chicago is much more a classical movie, with absolutely no special effects (that I can remember, at least)
2) MR had a much more pop element to it, with old Elton John classics incorporated into the soundtrack. Chicago retained the original score, with a few modern additions only available on the CD soundtrack.
3) MR relied much more on its cinematography, elaborate sets, special effects, and even some camp, to make it appealing. Chicago relied much more on the songs, acting, and some clever choreography, but it didn't exactly hit you in the face with its brilliance--you had to think about it for a while.

The cast is what really made it for me in this version, as well. While I adore Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, the cast in Chicago is really spectacular, all around--not a stinker among the bunch. As far as I'm concerned, Catherine Zeta-Jones was the best, truly a natural on stage; rarely has there been a venue to fully showcase all of her talents. It's no wonder that she won an Oscar.

So see it in the theaters if you haven't done so already, and rent/buy the DVD once it comes out! You won't be disappointed!

Summary: Fabulous example of the musical format!
Review: I am a fan of the Broadway musical format and had been hoping for a movie version of Chicago every since seeing the stage version reviewed on the Charlie Rose show. This movie version meets my hopes and expectations. It is fast paced and moves faultlessly from semi-realism to fantasy in the blink of an eye. The Fosse-esque dance scenes are wonderful and the singing is very good. I was sorry when the movied was over.

There have been some complaints about the plot but, like almost all musicals, this isn't a movie that you go to see as an example of cinematic skill in plot development. The plot is almost comic-book simple, like the movie Dick Tracy which starred Madonna. You go for the dancing, the music, the pretty women, the singing, etc.

Considering that the movie musical has been out of style for a while, they probably didn't have a long list of potential actors for the roles - I think, however, that the actors did very well, especially Zeta-Jones. Liza Minelli at her best might have done better in that part as she had a truly outstanding voice but I can't think of anyone available now who might have bettered Zeta. I have not been a Richard Gere fan but maybe that is because he has been miscast, in this role he was great. Zellweger had the biggest stretch to make from her background. You wonder how the director decided on her since she was the greatest gamble. Madonna might have done that part ten years or so ago but I can't think of anyone else with a name who could have done it better than Rene. All in all, everyone associated with this movie rates kudos. I will buy the DVD version, but if you haven't seen the movie, see it on the biggest screeen available in your area first.

Summary: A big, bold and beautiful production. Don't miss it!
Review: At first, I just wasn't' interested in seeing Chicago. After all, it's a musical. I don't usually like musicals. But then it got nominated for an Academy Award. I was curious as to what all the fuss was about. And so I went to see it and sat in a packed theater just plain relaxing and letting myself be completely entertained. Yes, this is a musical. But it's done 2002 style. In other words not only are there lights, action and camera - there's also fantastic film editing and camerawork, and such great pacing that I was completely carried away with the story and the music.

The story is set in Chicago in the 1920s, a time where corruption was a "given", and the road to stardom lay in lurid headlines. So when vaudeville star Velma Kelly, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, murders her sister and husband in a jealous rage, the newspapers go wild. She's in prison but is sure she can get off because of the good lawyer she has hired, played by Richard Gere. And the prison matron, played by Queen Latifah is helping her - for a price. Well, along comes another murderess, Roxie Hart, played by Renee Zellweger, who has also murdered her lover. The difference is that Roxie is not a star yet, just an aspiring one. She's married to John C. Reilly, who's a bit dumb but loves his wife. She convinces him to pay for her defense. Now, there's competition between the two murderesses for the headlines. It's all great fun to watch. And the magnificent singing and dancing numbers really do move the action along.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is a trained dancer and it shows. And of course Queen Latifah can really belt out a song. John C. Reilly also has a vaudeville background. But Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere had to learn to sing and dance for their parts. I am impressed. They are wonderful. The late Bob Fosse was one of the originators of the show, which opened in 1975. It's been a hit all these years. But this film translates it into a musical event. I loved it. And, even though the plot gets a little lurid at times, everyone can enjoy it. It's a big, bold and beautiful production. If possible, try to see it in a theater with good sound. Highly recommended.

Review: Chicago is tHe bEsT mOvIe!!! Everyone should see it! I really didn't like Moulin Rouge but it was ok, i was kind of worried about not liking Chicago, but I LOVED IT!!! The songs are great and the cast is beyond awesome!!! I have to quote Velma on this: "Here's some advice direct from me to you," GO SEE CHICAGO!!! I reccomend it for people who don't really like musicals because they just dont belt out in song when their walking down the street, the day dream most of it or their's a reason that they are singing. They aren't just singing for the heck of it.Catherine Zeta-Jones is a show-stopper, Renee Zellweger sings her heart out, and Richard Gere tap dances. What more could you ask for?

Summary: Chicago is the best musical of all time!
Review: This movie brilliantly begins with a glance of Renee Zellweger's magnificent eyes. This movie has a brilliant ending with a dance number from Renee Zellweger as Roxie Hart and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly. The director, Rob Marshall, always stays true to Bob Fosse's vision of "Chicago". It never lets you down even at the end of the movie, it still keep you going and Richard Gere's character Billy Flynn, the attorney to both Roxie and Velma, makes you want to tap dance yourself out of the movie theater, which is brilliant, of course. Danny Elfman's score is sensational and never gives up at a moment's notice. Renee Zellweger is brilliant in her Oscar-Nominated performance as Roxie, Catherine Zeta-Jones is twice as brilliant in her Best Supporting Actress Oscar-Winning performance as Velma, and makes you think who is the better character, Roxie or Velma. John C. Reilly and Queen Latifah are picture perfect in their Oscar-Nominated performances as Amos Hart and Mama Morton. The Oscar-Winning production and costume design, film editing, and sound. "Chicago" also won the Best Picture Oscar for 2003 and which it deserved to win the Best Picture Oscar for 2003. Bill Condon's Oscar-Nominated screenplay is brilliant as the movie itself is. "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" both brought back the Musical genre to life and quite well, really. The Oscar-Nominated cinematography from Dion Beebe was great, as the song "I Move On" sung at the end credits by Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Richard Gere's standout performance as Billy Flynn for Best Actor Oscar was extraordinary which he won his first Golden Globe For Best Actor for his performance in "Chicago". I was entertained by "Chicago" because of the songs on the soundtrack which were a little bit better than the songs from "Moulin Rouge". I hope this becomes the best musical ever made.

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: .... This movie not only takes me back to the great musicals (Brigadoon, Singing in the Rain, The King and I, South Pacific) but does something I never would have expected. Instead of the movie featuring talking first with music to back it up, it's the MUSIC FIRST, with talking to back it up. The story is told through the music. This movie was bigger then life, glitzy, creative and everything a truly good musical should be. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best movie/musical to come out in a long, long time.
