Review: I'm normally do not watch musicals. But, in the case of "1776", I make a big exception. The first time I saw this film was back in 1979 and I've seen it at least once every year since since. The film has a first rate cast. It's always fun to see William Daniels and Ken Howard and what they have accomplished since the they made the film. I definitely recommend this film to anyone who enjoys musicals and history.

Review: I watched this film many times in my childhood. It has always left quite an unforgettable impression on me. I very much suggest anyone reading this review to either rent or purchase a copy! Review: Exceptionally entertaining and clever presentation of the near insurmountable tasks that faced framers of the Declaration of Independence. I would not have believed a musical like this could be made. Wonderful, watch it every 4th of July.

Summary: Skillful adaptation of a most creative Broadway Musical.
Review: The hit Broadway Musical is transferred to film with great skill. Daniels is a perfect John Adams, the stereo tickles the ear, and this is a longer version that what I saw on TV. This complete edition delights. How anyone ever conceived that the writing of the Declaration of Independence could be made into a musical amazes me, but make it they did, and it is magical.

Review: The movie is excellent. I'm not a real lover of musicals, but this one is a must see. There is a very clever comical twist to a very serious issue of our nation's history. Furthermore, the actors really bring out amazing aspects of the characters. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone.

Summary: great intro about the birth of our nation
Review: I had to watch this movie for the first time for a highschool summmer reading program and I loved it immediatly. Its a movie every american should see at least once. I usually dont like musicals but this one is truely great. The characters are unforgetable and you will find yourself singing the songs in the shower. An accurate portrain of the Declaration of Independance of the United States. A great movie to own. I can't wait until this comes out on DVD.

Summary: A great way to interest kids in American history
Review: One of my goals in raising my daughter (now [age]) has been to turn her on to American history. I've taken her to Williamsburg, Washington D.C., Boston, Plimoth, Gettysburg, and as many other history hot spots as I've been able to fit into our travels. This movie captured her imagination as nothing else has. She's seen it twice on stage and several times on video, and talks about John Adams, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson as if they were old friends. I couldn't be happier.The movie is a long-time favorite of mine, too. I started watching it in grade school, and have always loved the music, the dialog, and the story line.

Review: This film is not yet available in DVD, but I have a laser copy and would like the DVD. Outstanding and moving music with fairly accurate history. Excellent for showing some of the mechanations that went on in creating our independence.

Summary: Fantastic history
Review: I just finished my third viewing of the musical "1776". I own the original cast album and was privileged to see the original travelling stage play brought to my hometown by William Daniels,love his slightly sarcastic John Adams portrayal. I could watch this over and over and over. One quibble with the film version was the lack of "Cool Cool Conservative Men" song by John Dickinson and others. As others have written Howard da Silva IS Ben Franklin. My boyfriend had never seen the production and was quite impressed by the play especially the aria sung by Rutledge-"Molasses to Rum to Slaves"; my boyfriend felt he deserved special kudos for his presentation.
