Summary: A great musical adaptations and a hidden treasure trove...
Review: Well, after much research it would seem the rumor, myth, what have you is true. The 2000 issue of the DVD is a 2nd edition of the DVD. Not a reissue of the first. The 2000 DVD (ISBN 0-85391-83252-2) is different from the (often talked about) first edition that was pulled from the shelves within 48 hours in 1998 by command of David Geffen. The original lot was destroyed. The only ones to survive were the ones purchased in those first few hours. Checking my disk I have ISBN: 0-85391-17022-8 I have yet to contrast the two DVDs to see if the content is in fact different. Regardless, check the used discs you may aquire as this one (on collectors boards) is going for as high as $225. Which for a six year old disk (this review was written in 2004) is not bad at all.

Summary: It's a Cartoon
Review: My non-musical enthusiast husband had even seen this movie, and somehow I'd made it twenty-plus years without. How did this happen?? Ah, the sweet story of an innocent young man and his eye-catching plant who he struggles to feed: "Looks like you're not happy, 'less I open a vein." The best thing about this movie, to me, was the cartoonish quality as seen in the Skid Row scenery, Audrey II, the dentist office and Audrey I's imagination sequences. Although I have not seen Little Shop live, I can see how it was made for the stage. Like Evita, I think the movie version captured the essence of the film very well. Overall: great and unusual story, fantastic music, wonderful Eighties' quality about the whole thing. By the way, this movie is based on the musical, which is based on a 1960 movie. Now THAT I would like to see next!

Review: I can never get enough of this movie. I love it ever since i saw the play. Of course I saw the play before I saw the movie. It is very well put together. I listened to the commentary and the actors had to really be very careful while filiming around the plant otherwise they would have to start over. You would not be dissapointed if you get this dvd.

Summary: Cult-Classic Makes the Cut
Review: Little Shop of Horrors. Although pieces of the movie omit wonderful little songs ("Call Back in the Morning" "Mushnik and Son" "Finale/Don't Feed the Plants," etc), it does its job at having tongue-in-cheek humor. As a matter of fact, my High School's production of the play finished up last night..I played the role of Crystal. Excellent movie!

Summary: A great musical with a great cast!
Review: Frank Oz did a phenomenal job translating this off-Broadway smash to the screen in 1986. I saw the original show in the fall of 1985 when I first moved to NYC for school. Even if you're someone who doesn't normally like musicals, this one is hard to resist. The songs are great, along with the kitschy 1950's setting. The three street urchins who serve as a Greek chorus, and have some great songs to boot, are excellent. But in the movie as with the original show, the real magic comes from Ellen Greene. I'm not sure why she didn't have a bigger career, especially since she has such an amazingly dynamic and powerful singing voice (at odds with her breathy speaking voice as Audrey). The transfer on the DVD is pretty good also. But the plus is all the extras that are included. Only the original ending "Don't feed the plants" has been cut. This DVD had an odd production path. The original DVD included the original ending. But David Geffen supposedly made the studio pull it after two days. Unfortunately, the transfer on that 1998 single-layer DVD was not as good as this one. I just saw the new Broadway revival and would have to say it's not worth the money. It can't touch the memory of this film. The star, Hunter Foster, is quite good. But Kerry Butler as Audrey does not really work at all. Something just doesn't quite gel and she's sort of too much the girl next door for the role. Except for the actual shop, the sets and scenery don't really work either. The surreal sky backgrounds look hideous. The plant effects are sort of cool, though.

Review: This version of Little Shop of Horrors, is a rare case of a remake surpassing the original. I have two words in mind "Total Entertainment"; in that it is a comedy,drama,romance and musical all in one. It can entertain different generations at one time. I've watched it over and over, best money spent for a pick me up!

Summary: Dentist is evil... but makes me laugh!
Review: This movie's great! I'm doing my drama exam this week at school and we are doing a scene from The Little Shop of Horrors. I'm in a group of girls (i'm a girl as well) but most of them are very stubborn and won't play the male part. So i said i'd do it coz i love anything to do with drama. I got to play Orin, the sadistic dentist and i really enjoyed it playing that part. Itz fun playing evil characters and i'm glad my friends didn't want to do it. Even though he's a baddie, he really makes me laugh, especially in that song, Dentist (as well as the scene with Bill Murray). I find it weird that i liked that song coz i despise going 2 the dentist. I haven't seen the whole movie but from what i've seen, it's brill! It's about this nerdy but sweet florist called Seymour (ahhh) who fancies his co-worker Audrey (a girl with a strange but sweet wispy voice) who's dating that crazy dentist who is abusive towards her and treats her badly. Seymour reckons that the only way to make her fall in love with him is because of this amazing plant he gets (who he calls Audrey Two). BUT this plant doesn't feed on water, it feeds on human blood. Audrey Two begins growing, talking and begs for more than just Seymour cutting himself. He bumps off Orin (yeah that was my scene, i had to act completely insane) and his boss. It's a brilliant movie and i'm getting the DVD of it this summer, i can't wait! The acting in it is great (round of applause for Steve Martin especially) and I hope a lot of people will like it, watch it, you won't regret it!
(Personally, i don't mind that the original ending didn't go very well at the start coz i think it would be sad to see such a happy movie go so wrong at the end. I'd like to have seen it though).
My favourite songs from the movie are Downtown, Dentist and Suddenly Seymour.
Oh please hope i do well in my exam! Later: I'm just editing my review, I got my DVD in July. It was brilliant. Little Shop of Horrors is my favourite film of all time, I love it! The special features were great (shame they took away original ending, I heard they might be putting it back, in colour!), the outtakes were hysterically funny and Behind the Scenes was great (although I would have like to have seen Steve Martin interviewed). My drama exam was fine! My teacher thought it was very funny. I was hoping we'd do it for our school play, but we're not :( I would audition for Orin Scrivello D.D.S definitely even though i'm a girl, I can do the voice! But readers, you have to buy this film coz even though I only found about it back in May when my teacher chose it for our topic, itz the best I've ever seen! Go ahead! Buy it and you will never ever regret it!
You know something, I was at the dentist the other day getting a 'long slow root canal' done! Honestly, ow itz so painful! Thank God my dentist was normal!

Summary: A good musical
Review: This version of "Little Shop of Horrors" is a musical that is set in the 1950s. It stars Rick Moranis as Seymour, Steve Martin as the crazy dentist, Bill Murray as the pain-loving patient (he was hilarious in this film!), and several other stars, plus a 3 black female group who sings doo-wop songs in the background. Also stars Levi Stubbs as the voice of the talking man-eating plant in the movie.
I was surprised that Rick Moranis sang really well in this movie! Ellen Green's character, who's the love interest of Seymour and dated the crazy dentist, has a very annoying voice....almost too squeaky. I can understand why people said her voice drove them up the wall! LOL My favorite scene was with the crazy dentist named Orin (Steve Martin) and the pain-loving patient (Bill Murray)...when Bill looks like he really enjoyed the experience and his facial expressions in the dental chair made me laugh. I also like the scene where Bill was telling this young patient that just had a contraption stuck on his face around the mouth area that he is "very very lucky" and this poor kid's in pain.
I have a couple of favorite tunes in this movie too. It's good to watch for a rainy day, if you are really interested in musicals and humor mixed together. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of Ellen Green's character, although she did well, her voice kind of ruin the scenes because it was so squeaky.
