Summary: Widescreen - DVD
Review: The scope of this movie is best appreciated in widescreen version. So let me know if MGM will release this title in the original theatrical format.

Summary: Great movie, but why oh why not widescreen?
Review: I refuse to buy this DVD even though I LOVE the movie. The grandeur and scope of this film is breathtaking, and too much is lost if viewed in pan and scan. I still have my laserdisc player, and my widescreen version of CCBB is one reason. If you are not a fan of widescreen, by all means get this DVD - the movie is a must-have for any collection. I, for one, am still waiting for a widescreen version (and maybe extras, too?).

Summary: Laserdisc was letterboxed so why NOT DVD?
Review: Hey...how come this fabulous film was released letterboxed on laserdisc and NOT on DVD!?! Thanks, but no thanks. My laserdisc player and Chitty disc are still in excellent condition and I'll wait before I purchase the DVD. What a shocking shame for videophiles and fans of the film! SHAME ON MGM!

Summary: Truly scrumptious !
Review: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one of the best movies ever made.
It is on dvd now in all it's glory. Ignore the Amazon editorial review which was obviously written by someone who disliked the movie entirely- perhaps they are too young to appreciate the splendor of it as they stated it was too long, out-dated, lacking special effects, etc. See and hear for yourself the delightful wonders that Hollywood used to make. Unlike the most recent movies made by Hollywood in the past decade -high budget disappointing typical movies filled with high-tech special effects yet no decent story at all ! By comparison Chitty Chitty Bang Bang holds it's own based solely on a great script, superb acting, songs that make you want to sing along, dancing that makes you wonder " how can Dick Van Dyke dance like that ?" with action, comedy, adventure and a love story all thrown into this family film. Who could ask for more ? They just don't make'em like this toot-sweet story anymore !

Summary: Why Only Pan & Scan?
Review: I absolutely loved this movie when I was a little kid and watched it whenever I could but though still good I just didn't enjoy it as much when I watched it again but maybe the fact that it's in pan & scan and not wide-screen which I prefer is why I didn't enjoy it, pan & scan didn't bother me when I was a kid because pan & scan is what videos and movie channels showed but now seeing videos and DVDs that have wide-screen I see how much better it is and seeing as how many people are complaining about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang not being presented in wide-screen I find it weird that they haven't gotten the clue and released a wide-screen version but I guess as long as people keep shelling out the money fot this pan & scan DVD they probably think nobody cares about wide-screen but seriously they need to read these reviews.

Summary: Excellent remastering of a classic film
Review: This musical is one of the best things to come out of 1968! Dick van Dyke is brilliant as always, and the songs are as wonderful as the movie itself. Lighthearted and funny, this film follows a British inventor (van Dyke) and his family through a barrage of misadventure and fun as he invents a magical flying car (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and tries to elude pirates who would steal the car and imprison little children everywhere. Great fun, great songs, great movie. The film is a classic, and the DVD is THX digitally remastered and perfect.

Summary: Wholesome Entertainment
Review: My kid watches this movie at least 2 times a day, and has been doing that for the past 3 months. Great thing about this movie is that even we do not get bored and watch it every time whole heartedly along with our kid. I can only imagine how my kid must be feeling about the flying car, nifty gadgets and of course the child catcher. My kid just runs around the room jumping whenever the child catcher comes. A Truly Scrumptious movie!

Summary: Pan and scan is an abomination
Review: This is a fun movie, but it needs to be seen in widescreen. There are wonderful vistas, musical numbers and scenes that do not work when a third or more of the image is cut off. I am very diasappointed to learn that the DVD only includes a pan and scan version. I want the real movie, not a scaled-down version of it.

PS., if you like the movie, the book is even better.

Summary: Classic childrens movie
Review: I don't remember that many movies from when I was a youngster, probably because not that many stood out as anything special. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang however, is one movie I remember vividly. The sense of excitement, the colour, the music is all woven together in a spectacle of movie making that we seldom, if ever see these days. This way out fantasy is aimed at children but is none the less great entertainment for the entire family. Dick Van Dyke gives an outstanding performance and displays talents that are rarely seen in actors these days. The simple theme song is a classic that many baby boomers would easily be able to sing along to. It may be difficult to cultivate as much excitement as I had for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, with kids nowadays. They are conditioned to movies of a different ilk. If you have young kids however, I think we owe it to them, to introduce them to the movie so they can see for themselves a movie made in the old fashion way, which focuses on fun and adventure. Highly recommended.

Summary: Still a favorite!
Review: What a fantastic family film. I purchased the DVD last week and my small children just love the music, as I do! This will always remain a classic for me and I am extatic it was available on DVD!
