Summary: JC Rocks!!!
Review: Jesus Christ Superstar is a brilliant example of a modern-movie making in the 1970's. Such innovative work of a filmmaker gave this film an outstanding and dazzling performances of the cast. One thing is noticeable is the sound, well, that was 1970's and there's no digital remastering that time yet but the music and sound truly capitulates the essence of the movie. The music maybe dragging sometimes but one can be entertain by each songs rendered and one can identify himself/herself to such songs (and sometimes, you may even find yourself singing it with them while viewing the film!). I definitely like the choreography and cinematic shot of the people and Simon the Zealot praising Jesus and also the enigmatic scene of Mary Magdalene singing "I Don't How to Love Him", and also, how could one ever forget the comical scene of King Herod at the lake?Ted Neeley gave a justified role to his character as Jesus with right blend of emotion and singing. Carl Anderson truly sufaces his character as judas Iscariot which left him a memorable identity to some of the audiences of this film. Yvonne Elliman captures a wonderful voice behind her characer as Mary Magdalene. I commend Norman Jewison for his innovative directing and bringing to the silverscreen of this highly commended and controversial broadway classic hit.

Review: I really did not see anything special with this film. THe people that played Judas and Mary were excellent wonderful voices and were fun to watch, but other than that the movie was jsut alright. The other singing voices were downright annoying (the people that played Jesus and one of the high priest...their voices were painful to hear... I thought my windows might break)

Summary: Beautifully done
Review: The movie is shot in Isreal, so the scenery is GORGEOUS. The music is fun and touching at times. I don't think that this musical is sacreligious at all, and I'm a Catholic who takes my religion seriously! ;) Carl Anderson (Judas) and Ted Neely (Jesus) are incredible. They put SO MUCH EMOTION into their parts! You can just FEEL Judas's exasperation and determination to make Jesus act- he is portrayed in the musical as not realizing that Jesus would be put to death if He was handed over. You can feel his anger and frustrations when Jesus does not want to cause violence, and you can feel his guilt right before his suicide, which is done dramatically. You can see Jesus' love, frustration with his apostles because they do not understand, and his pain and fear. Yvonne Elliman (Mary Magdalene) and Barry Dennen (Pilate) are the original voice actors from the concept album and Broadway.

Summary: Great Songs. '70's to the bone
Review: For a long time I was under the impression that all musicals were really stupid, especially the pompous crap by Andrew Lloyd Webber. But the music in JCS is absolutely awesome and rockin' and electrifying. Everybody is singing their asses off. The film itself is pretty entertaining, and it gets really intense towards the end (obviously: I mean, they CRUCIFY somebody.) The film is about the 1970's as much as it is about Jesus: the pseudo hippie clothes and hair, and the rather scandalous scene of Jesus enjoying a backrub from Mary Magdalene make for a more complex message. I don't like Christianity, but that doesn't really matter because the story being told is so beautiful and engrossing. Its not perfect, but the songs are so friggin' good that you can kind of forget about the lame dancing around.

Summary: Highly recommend
Review: I am religious, and I am NOT offended by this movie. I think, this says a lot. The creators gone into the reasons why negative personages did what they did, and got amazing results with this work. The movie does not try to justify them, but they are not scary icons anymore, but rather live people with their own problems, reasons, and logic. And what Jesus does there, creators of the movie also got a lot of that right. And they don't press any final judgements on the viewer, you are free to decide for yourself, who is who and who is right or wrong. Word of caution, do not even try another edition of the same title made in 2000. This one, made in 1973, is the good one.

Review: I am not a big fan of religion (not to insult anyone), but I loved this movie. I love the 70's...it was typical with the dancing and costumes and all. The soundtrack was great and it was made really well.

Summary: Beautiful, moving
Review: This is the movie that sparked my interest in Christianity. Ted Neeley's stirring portrayal of Jesus- as a real man- inspired me to read the Gospels, and I have come to love Jesus Christ as a human and humane man through Neeley's sensitive portrayal. Carl Anderson is Judas Iscariot as we have never known him- a multi-faceted, ultimately honest character. Reading the Bible, and reflecting upon it, I think that there is nothing in it which seriously refutes Rice/Webber's picture of Judas. Asides as to Judas's dishonesty found in the Gospels are no more than the opinions of its writers; and the Apostles were certainly fallible. In this movie all the major players (save the ridiculous and risible King Herod) are presented as conflicted human beings. The Bible itself can seem surreal, and this movie for me (raised an atheist) made it accessible. It set me on the path to loving Jesus Christ. I thank those responsible for this movie for making me think about the life of that great man, and thereby indirectly bringing me to embrace his beautiful tenets and adapt them to my life. That said, there is much in this movie for people of all faiths- and for those without it. Please watch it if only for the great songs and fine acting. I'll guarantee that you will enjoy- and will be surprised if you don't come away from it thoughtful about those events which have inspired two millenia of artistic masterpieces- including this one. Five stars.

Summary: Extremely Moving!!
Review: This movie is a classic! If you can watch this without being moved, then you are not being open to the message it is trying to give. I have watched this movie at least a dozen times in my life and still find wisdom in the story. (plus I have always been moved to tears) It protrays the human emotions that all the characters may have felt - from Jesus, and Judas, to Pilot, etc. Very eye opening if you stay open minded. This is not meant to be an accurate historical documentary, just merely a different perspective that MAY be true.

Summary: This is NOT a Christian movie.
Review: This film portrays Jesus Christ as less than perfect. A Christian knows that Jesus was perfect on Earth and is still perfect. Satan did try to tempt Christ, but Christ in his sinlessness, did not fall. The attempts to make Jesus seem like just another human kind of guy are not true to history. Jesus is the son of God - He is God - He is the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit who lives in those who trust in Him for salvation.

Summary: Simply Beutiful.
Review: I have seen many stories about Christ and his betrayal by Judas. I have never felt such emotion and realism as I did with this movie. When Jesus asks GOD why he should die, I cry. This movie is brilliant. A rock opera so magnificent. Ted Nealy makes me believe that he is Jesus. When an actor encompasses a role so greatly that one can not tell he is acting, that the line is blurred, he is truly great as his craft. An absolute must see.
