Review: I saw this video as a child in the 70's and sang to the matching cassette that was titled "Jesus Christ Superstar". I now have my own children and I just know that they cannot grow up without experiencing this. It puts into perspective how things must have been for Jesus...something that is unfathomable to my 8 year old. I can watch it over and over.

Summary: One of the best musicals ever.....
Review: If you like musicals and can appreciate "NEW" (70's) trends, then you should like this movie. The music is entrancing and the scenery spectacular. Keep in mind that this is not a traditional biblical movie, but a 70's interpretation, full of the power and force that drove the early part of the decade. Turn down the lights and crank up the sound for an enjoyable movie.

Summary: Remarkable
Review: I first saw part of this movie on television, and thought it was a little "out there." But later, I sat down and watched it, and was absolutely moved. Barry Dennen, as Pontious Pilate gives a multi-dimensional performance, and Ted Neeley is amazing. I had the wonderful opportunity to see Mr. Neeley in person in a touring production of this show; what a talent. This movie shows a part of the story that few churches do: Jesus' life before He died. It changed my view of religion, and it changed my life.

Summary: Jewison (as usual) stays true to the stage vision
Review: With Jesus Christ Superstar,Norman Jewison proves that "Yes it is possible to take a show from the stage to the screen and stay true to the original vision that made that show what it was.a good example of the opposite would be Alan Parker's verson of "Evita"(he made Eva Peron look like a girlscout!) This movie will not won't be everybodys cup of tea.Firstly the main thing to remember is this is not the Gospel according to Luke,Matthew,or John.It's the Gospel according to Judus so don't expect to see Jesus as we as christians have(if he did do you think he would have betrayed him?) Secondly,it's opera with libretto,no talking just singing .But what singing!!! the vocals in this are killer,and the powerful music of Andrew Lloyd-Webber makes for a great movie!!!

Review: This movie and soundtrack have had such a profound impact on my life. Its the story of Jesus' last days on earth, but more from the point of view of Judas. We get to see how Judas really felt like he was doing the right thing. He felt that Jesus was getting out of control and probably thought he could actually save Jesus from those that wanted to destroy Him. This is contrary to the usual notion that Judas was a despicable betrayer. Rather, he is portrayed as a concerned and loving friend who was possibly just misguided. Another important aspect of this story is to show that Jesus, (while being the Son of God) was still a human Man. He had the same problems and emotions that all human beings must face, yet He conquered temptation and sin. This helped me to be able to better understand what He must have gone through. The pain, suffering, denial, torture, betrayal, and persecution that each and every one of us are responsible for inflicting upon Him. How incredible His Grace is, to still welcome us into His Kingdom after such torment and heartache. We truly are not worthy, yet He Loves us anyway. He allowed Himself to be destroyed so that we may have eternal Life. I feel this was captured very well in "Jesus Christ Superstar". This movie sparked such intrigue and desire for me to begin studying Christ and the Bible. Also, to really think about things for myself without just having some religious leader tell me what to believe and to take it on face value without any understanding of the Word. There are great lyrics from Tim Rice and the best music from Andrew Lloyd Webber. Ted Neely (plays Jesus) and Carl Anderson (as Judas) have two of the greatest voices I've ever heard. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this movie. END
