Summary: Jesus Christ Superstar Movie
Review: Even twenty five years after first watching this movie my admiration for it remains undiminished. From the opening overture,to the stunning climax, this rendering of the finest Rock Opera ever seen, remains the most superior version around. Visually stunning, musically superb,if I had to pick a highlight in a film weighed down with highlights, the version of 'Superstar'on this video is nothing short of awe inspiring. If you can get past the flares and loon pants,Jesus Christ Superstar will entertain you for many years to come, and stand as the definitive version of a great musical.

Summary: Jesus Christ Superstar
Review: This is one of the most awesome, inspiring, religious experiences I have enjoyed through most of my life... The passion is incredible, as well as the mix between old & new which makes it easy to relate to in all generations... The voices of Ted Neely & Carl Anderson send chills up and down my spine, which shows how much of the emotion is expressed! Perhaps the original cast will return to do one last "tour" which would be the best farewell to the genre of the "religious" musicals that will always be.. but then again, there's ALWAYS the movie... LONG LIVE JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR! YOURS IS THE POWER, YOURS IS THE GLORY!

Summary: Very Thought Provoking
Review: I'm not a rock fan but when my sons where in their early teens, quite a few years ago, this movie helped them to relate to the story of Jesus in music they liked and helped us, as parents, to discuss the subject of Jesus as a family, which was good. I also found it very moving. It gave pause to think about ones beliefs. It just drew you right into it, in a way that I cannot explain. To have the entire movie sung and sung well was remarkable. The performance by Judas was outstanding. I have since become a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber which adds to my appreciation of a thought provoking musical. My one disappointment was it did not end with the Resurrection of Jesus. If anyone has another opinion about the ending, I would be very interested in hearing it. As a Christian I think it is a film well worth seeing because it does cause you to think about what you believe and why.

Summary: jesus christ superstar
Review: i am only 16 and may be a younger fan of the work of the likes of Lloyd-Webber, Rice, and Sondheim, but i feel that i know a good musical when i see one. Superstar is one musical that will never 'grow old' or fade away, it covers a topic that almost everyone comes across everyday in their lives. The video may not have many fancy lighting techniques or even any flash costumes (save the superstar costumes) but the theme makes it a whole lot more believable and realistic. Carl Anderson has the voice that many man envy, a flexible vocal range that carries the role of Judas off perfectly. Ted Neely, although bringing the high notes to a whole new level,he also seemed too quiet or even frail for the part of Jesus. The cast together, formed a great chorus and Herod's Song added that touch of humor. The whole bus thing was confusing at first, but i slowly grew to like it's symbolism. And yes, the backward glancs from Carl Anderson at the end was the icing on the cake.

Summary: Jesus Christ, Superstar
Review: Every time I watch this video, It provokes more of my thought processes. In response to the viewer from CA.; If you recall, In the beginning of the movie, the actors got out of the bus and started singing and celebrating and generally partying. At the end of the movie, they boarded the bus with an entirely different attitude. They were introspective and reverential. Exactly opposite of their attitude in the beginning of the movie. Carl Anderson's backward glance was especially profound. His portrayal of Judas and the dilemma he found himself in, concerning God's plan and how he was used to fullfill prophesy, is especially thought provoking. There is much more to this play than meets the eye on the surface.

Summary: One of My Desert Island Films
Review: I remember as a nine-year-old boy on Christmas day, 1973, my father announcing that we were going to see this movie. We were the only people in the theatre, and from the opening desert landscape to the final haunting sunset, I was completely mesmerized. Our family had already listened extensively to the "rock opera" soundtrack, and were quite famliar with the music and story. But nothing could prepare us for the explosion of sight and sound that confronted us that night. It sounds cliched, but I was completely "blown away".

In the years since, JCSS has had a permanent place in my life. I played in the orchestra of a local production, introduced it to my wife and children, saw the 1993-94 revivals starring Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson along with Dennis de Young of Styx as Pilate (wow!), and watched this film in every available format, from Beta to VHS to laserdisc...and now on DVD.

I can honestly say that this is the best presentation of the film I've ever seen...and I've seen them all. The colors are exquisite, the image clearer than ever, and while the sound and "look" of the film are obviously dated and inferior by today's standards, the result simply enhances the film's charm.

I feel that Ted Neeley is remarkable as Jesus...he "owns" this part. Yes, he is small of stature and plays the character as seen through the eyes of Judas, i.e. "whiny". But watch how he transforms as Judas' attitudes evolve. Also, no one has ever been able to match his electrifying voice, especially in the Gethsemene sequence.

Like many others, this was my first view of the "Passion Play" in a manner that brought home the human realities of it to me. This is a film that is really beyond criticism...either one loves it "as it is" or not. To me, it's marvelous.

Summary: I don't know how to love it
Review: I rented this movie upon hearing the famous title song and "I Dont Know How To Love Him". But what I found instead was something that looked like some hippies went out to the desert to sing. Now, I usually understand even the most complex of movies. But this one perplexed me. I didn't understand why after he was crucified, everyone packed up, in normal clothes as if everything was okay and they had just come to act out a part and crucify Him. That is the only part I didn't understand. And King Herod's hats made me kinda sick or some reason.

Summary: An awesome film!
Review: First thing I have to say before anything else- watch this film with an open mind. The music is just wonderful, and the singers are even better (Especially Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson). The choreography, especially to Simon Zealot, is awesome. THis film has, I've heard, has caused some controversy over the relationship implied between Mary Magdalene and Jesus. If you ask me, it's just the way you look at it. This is my favorite musical, and I give my compliments to Norman Jewison and Andrew Lloyd Webber for this wonderfully written piece of entertainment.
