Summary: Loved it back in 81, adored it now in 2001.
Review: I have a fuzzy copy of this on vhs, from TV broadcast. and found it again and played it new years' eve. What a fantastic piece of art!. Yes the acting is atrocious, but I can't remember being so entertained by a musical. If you view this movie expecting fine tuned performance and seamless movie making, forget it. It's campy, and it's good at making fun of itself. So it is great! I loved the milkshake commercial, and the grand finale. I wish Valerie made more movies like that one.

Summary: The Construction Worker Is The Star
Review: This is one of my all time favourites, and that of my partner Jerome. The Construction Worker gives his finest performance as a member of the Village People, even better here than he was in the Village People Macho Man video. It is a bit of a shame that Steve Guttenberg is in it, as someone like Rock Hudson or Liberace would have been great. Freddie Mercury could have made a great debut in his place! Pop some corn, get all the chaps over and enjoy!

Summary: Sacramento VP Lover!
Review: Even though this movie is pretty bad, if your a "true" Village People fan it really won't matter. Fans whose love comes from the heart, like mine, are able to laugh at the bad stuff and really bust a gut at the "really bad stuff." The milkshake scene is something to laugh at!

I was a shame that this movie didn't get more attention when it first came out. The VP were an icon for disco and they are still going stronger then ever today. I have never known of another group to beable to draw a crowd like they do and perform like it was the first time.

I enjoyed every minute of this movie, remembering when I saw it for the first time all those years ago. It actually opened on my birthday and I used to think that they did it for me because I was their #1 fan and I still am at 32 years old. THE VILLAGE PEOLE ARE THE BEST!

Summary: Greatest Movie Ever Made!
Review: I loved this movie when it first came out! Its funny, its superb, its super! Though some parts are a little hard to swallow! The Village people can't act! Jenner could really perform under pressure, same with the easily swayable Guttenberg! Both did it so well that I ended up wondering about them! The village people looked hot with those swimmers in the Ymca number! I wished the local Ymca that I go to could be like that! A fabulously fun time for all (whether your like the Village people or not)! A good movie to watch without lights and all alone!

Summary: A Must See...Only Because of the Experience
Review: This is the ultimate in cheesy movies. Pay close attention, especially, to the YMCA scene. It has to rank as one of the greatest scenes in all-time movie history. This movie guarentees plenty of laughs, bad acting, and REALLY bad dancing (i.e. Steve "the roller skating disco stud" Guttenburg). So if you need cheering up for some reason or another, watch this movie.

Summary: Good show, Village People
Review: A nice musical movie. Very good music, combined with a rather simple plot. But nevertheless, GREAT!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Criterion candidate
Review: The Village People's sole feature film is an irreplaceable period piece deserving consideration for preservation as a feature-added Criterion Collection DVD.

Summary: From another world, but still enjoyable kitsch
Review: Two hours of froth from a time before the word gay became commonplace. Steve Guttenberg (lovely) gets pally with the Village People and spends the whole film in a state of high excitement at the thought of a disco revolution. Everyone acts as though they dont know that we know that they are gay. Strange, but still fun and compelling

Summary: PERFECT FOR BAD MOVIE NIGHT!
Review: Five stars for the simple fact that no other movie could purposely be so bad that it's good. Far from being an Oscar contender, this movie is one to consider if you're having a campy bad movie night. The film is a fictionalized view of how the Village People became a group. The plot is passable, the acting is horrid, but the music saves the whole thing. Steve Guttenberg in his very first role is terrible, Valerie Perrine (little bundle of talent that she is) makes you wonder how she survives as an actress, and Bruce Jenner (pre-op, so he's still gorgeous) should have stayed in athletics. One fantasy scene involving the construction worker is hilarious (like he dreams of women!), the YMCA sequence is so embarrassingly bad (think Esther Williams on a really low budget) that you'll laugh and cringe at the same time, in the disco sequence DJ Guttenberg mixes records that are completely out of tempo with each other, and watch out for the double-scoop ice cream cone that never melts and whose flavors switch positions at any given moment! Is this movie one of my all time favorites? You bet!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: But he sings so well.
Review: If you are gay, though, this is a great film. The YMCA episode is supurb! And the tenor of the group sings the best "Danny Boy" I have ever heard. Buy it just for that.
