Rating: Summary: a Spice fan must have! Review: Over an hour of fun Spicey Brits, an explosion of girl power and friendship. These are the girls that started it all.... the girls that said it was okay to hang with a certain crew and still have your own style. The Spice girls proved it was okay to flaunt your girliness and how many people do you see now that revel in being girly and sexy? j lo and britney never would have been so successful if it wasn't for teh spice girls who pioneered the modern bubble gum 90's pop sound.
Rating: Summary: Definitely a Spicey world! Review: Soon after the release of this album, Geri parted ways with the group...but I didn't care, because she was my least favorite girl, anyway! In fact, she barely sang at all...but whatever. This album, I think, was really great. The girls matured this time around, even though they were still having fun and the music was still great.
Rating: Summary: Artifacts Of A Spiceworld Review: The Spice Girls recorded their second album at their pop culture peak. They were to be heard, watched, played with, eaten, read, and worshipped, with albums, a movie, dolls, lollipops, chewing gum, books, magazines, and an army of enthusiasts. Despite this massive merchandising pitch, the Girls were a musical act, first and foremost. They proved their first pop release wasn't a fluke, as they followed it with another album that was a perfect example of the pop form. Catchy lyrics, playful vocals, cheery pop instrumentation, and Girl Power coated the albums ten tracks. They go after Motown, disco, lounge, funk, and soul, leaving only the very faintest of fingerprints on the genres they embrace. The album as a whole functions both as a self contained pop record and a movie soundtrack. Fueled by the hit singles "Spice Up Your Life", "Too Much", "Stop", and "Viva Forever" the girls conquered the charts, and did it with pure pop style. Album tracks can be a tedious issue for some albums, but those here are all classic pop productions, the Girls shining on the neo-disco of "Never Give Up On The Good Times", the bitchy funk of "Denying", the free spirit of "Do It", and the campy lounge of "The Lady Is A Vamp". The last really classic album of their career before the exit of Geri Halliwell, I doubt they'll ever reach the pop peak they had with this and Spice ever again, but the recordings will always be great to look back on as defining records of the 90's pop sound.
Rating: Summary: take it for what it is! Review: This movie is for the times that you don't want to use your brain and just watch something fun and goofy! I thought the movie was really good for what it was. so for all those people that didn't like the movie for what it was, RELAX IT WILL BE O.K.
Rating: Summary: so-so music movie Review: SPICE WORLD was filmed at the height of Spice Girls mania, and featured a predictable plot that was perfectly tailored to the limited acting abilities of the "Fab Five". Within a year of release, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Chisholm would be in the throes of solo careers, and the Spice Girls' star would have well and truly fallen.Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Victoria Beckham (Posh), Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Melanie Chisholm (Sporty) star as themselves, not acting but giving the thin material a more palatable taste. The story follows the girls as they prepare for a big concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The many bizarre elements in the "adventure" include a brush with aliens, Dance Boot Camp and riding in the impossibly-proportioned Spice Bus (driven by none other than Meatloaf!). Among the stars making self-gratiutous cameos are Jennifer Saunders, Elton John, Barry Humphries, Stephen Fry and Roger Moore. The film also features Alan Cumming, Richard E. Grant and Claire Rushbrook. The DVD includes behind-the-scenes footage, trailers and both widescreen/full-screen versions of the movie.

Rating: Summary: A guilty pleasure, indeed... Review: Remember the Spice Girls? Well, most people would like to completely erase them from their memory. I, on the other hand, used to love them. Back in high school when I didn't know any better, I used to love pop music, and the Spice Girls represented the apex of the genre - fun and upbeat music with catchy lyrics. This may sound weird since they're not really that old, but I like to listen to them now for the nostalgia. Kind of like while watching "Batman," it takes me back to a time when the only thing I had to worry about was getting bad grades on my report card. Now, things are different. And when I'm in the mood for a generic reflection of the worry-free stage of my life, this is one of the movies I pop in. It's a dumb movie, one I would never admit to liking unless I knew someone for a long time. But it's very enjoyable, filled with colorful backdrops, fun dance numbers and a myriad of cameos. The plot is basically this - the Spice Girls have a big tour coming up and an evil tabloid reporter wants to sink them into the ground. That's about it. Subplots include a pregnant friend and some animosity between the girls and their manager. Some of the flash-forwards the Spice Girls have, such as living in a house with wee ones scurrying about and driving them out of their minds, look to be accurate, since the group will never again regain the status of major pop icons. Now they're all popping out babies, settling down to just live normal lives... or so it seems. Nevertheless, I'll never forget the good times the Spice Girls provided me during my youth. I can't believe I'm writing this review, but it's the least I can do. Here's some advice - never admit to liking, or even loving, this movie unless you know the people around you aren't going to smack you in the face. And I mean be REALLY sure. This is the reigning ruler of guilty pleasures.
Rating: Summary: GGGGRRRREEEEAAAATTTT!!!! Review: I thought the movie was great and I absouloutly loved the CD.
Rating: Summary: Exuberance is Beauty Review: The Spice Girls, those glitter-besotted pottymouth disciples of mayhem, continued their history-making bubblegum crusade against the decadent relics of grunge on this, the second of two albums that would kick in a new pop era of bouncy, glowing optimism and divinely frivolous tunes. But none who came after could reach the fever-pitch exhilaration they managed on song after song. "Spiceworld" takes off on a euphoric trip through the archetypal pop formats-- Motown, disco, even showtunes--to create a global groove for the dancing masses of teens, tweens, kids and adults who all fell under the spell of these fiercely independent pop princesses. "Spice Up Your Life" swirls with carnaval percussion and a wriggling, jungle-inspired beat; its an Oasis-like wall of sound built out of Latin rhythms and the patented Spice hooks. "Stop" is their inspired Supremes homage, dizzying in its joyous recreation of that classic sound. "Too Much" is the first brooding ballad, more jazzy than "2 Become One" but similarly lush and lovestruck-- just listen and consider how very, very far everyone else on the scene is from creating slow tunes with such mastery. "Saturday Night Divas" slinks along with a dazzlingly orchestrated syncopation. The floor-stomping "Never Give Up On the Good Times" represents a pinnacle of energy, even on this disc of flushed-cheek dance tunes-- this disco anthem shakes and shimmys in ecstatic release, the explosion of positve energy that is the Spice Girls' trademark. And on and on and on. "Move Over" punkishly extends the Pepsi-commercial theme into a song on Girl Power revolution. "Do It" lays down the feminist 'rules are for fools' theme, with a swooningly delicious bridge sweeter than melted ice cream (thanks especially to Emma on that one). "Denying" is a sultrier sort of R&B tune, somewhat akin to the "Forever" album's material with its smoldering lover's anger. On the second ballad, "Viva Forever", the Spice Girls express a shockingly Neo-Platonic conception of life ("Live forever, for the moment/ Ever searching, for the one") in dreamy lyrics that express fervent yearning, over a swelling orchestral arrangement with touches of Spanish flavor. Yes, and then there's the closing number, "Lady is a Vamp" where the Spice Girls salute their culture-heroes in a rousing, comic piece of burlesque. Whether as solo artists or a group, we'll certainly continue to enjoy the show. "Spiceworld", in each and every song, is a monument in pop history, an artifact as enduring as "A Hard Day's Night" or the "Immaculate Collection". As writers and performers, the Spice Girls achieved new heights of energetic bliss, and "Spiceworld" remains a must for all who would know how great pop can be.
Rating: Summary: Spice Lives Review: A bit more low key than their previous release, Spice, Spiceworld, which is also the album complimenting their movie, Spiceworld, is still great. Packed with just a bit more Girl Power, this album produced such hits as "Spice Up Your Life" and "Too Much". Viva Forever, released shortly after Geri's departure with the group, is definitely a must hear. It is truly a beautiful ballad, with great vocals and a bit of Latin mixed in. Although not as girly and outspoken as Spice, this album is still a great one.
