Rating: Summary: Out There In The Best Possible Way Review: First off, if you love Scissor Sisters, this is definintely a must. It is a very revealing (in more ways than one) look at the band, both on stage, and through documentary and videos. The concert itself is outlandish. At 78 minutes, the band is in great form, and the sound of the dvd itself is great (there are three options: 5.1 Dolby, DTS, and 2.0). For this price alone, a must for every fan.
If you are not a fan, but like what you may have heard on the radio, you may very well be after seeing this. The band is truly fun loving, and anything goes on this dvd, and usually does.
The much rumoured easter eggs on the dvd can be found easilly if you have title access on your dvd player (check out title 14 for one that gives new meaning to the word revealing).
All in all a great companion to the cd.
Rating: Summary: Scissors Sisters Rock!! Review: For the price of this DVD you cannot go wrong. For fans, It's a fantastic treat, and is chock full of entertainment: videos, a full concert and docs (even the menus are entertaining)! I have already watched it 5 times since I got it on the release date! If you don't know about the Scissor Sisters, pick this up, it's a refreshing reprieve from the stale, earnest pop that's out there right now. If anybody out there can give tips on how to access the supposed easter eggs on this DVD, I would appreciate it. I've tried everything!
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent DVD! Review: I have to admit that with a $9 price tag I was not expecting much from this DVD. Being the Scissor Sisters fan that I am, I picked up a copy thinking it would be just a few videos. I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of great content that is on this DVD. The menus are very slick and entertaining in and of themselves. The background "mini-documentary" on the band was interesting and fabulous. The only thing I miss on this DVD is the video for "Filthy/Gorgeous". Simply put, you must buy this DVD.
Rating: Summary: Become A Scissor Sister- BUY THIS DVD!!!! Review: The Scissor Sisters came out of nowhere this past year & released what I consider the best pop album of 2004- if not the best of the decade so far! Their unique sound combines pop, dance, funk, electronica, psychedelia, glam & disco into one stylish, outlandish, foot-stomping package. This DVD is an absolute must-have for fans or anyone craving fun, stylish, intelligent pop music.
The concert features the band playing live to a packed house at the Brighton Dome with a set list that includes every song from their debut album (except "Lovers In The Backseat"), plus 3 non-album songs. The Sisters open the show by tearing straight into "Take Your Mama," which sets the high-energy mode for the rest of the show, concluding with the rousing "Music Is The Victim," which turns into an all-out, onstage party. The show is filmed perfectly, with excellent sound & picture quality, not to mention the terrific light show & visuals.
For those of you who have not yet put a face to the band (it's not like MTV or VH1 would ever play a video anymore!), this is a perfect introduction to the hipster-glam world of the Scissor Sisters. Anyone who finds lead singer (& former stripper) Jake Shears attractive will find lots to love on this DVD. Jake shows off his well-toned body in just about every way possible here, from wearing nothing but a towel onstage (in a bonus performance of "Music Is The Victim"), to doing a striptease on the menu board. To describe Jake as flamboyant would be an understatement, but the Scissor Sisters are all about having fun. Back-up singer Ana Matronic, whose presence on the cd is often barely there, shows in concert how well she can not only hold her own, but even hold the show together. She & Jake play off of each other perfectly!
Also featured on the DVD is a band documentary, a featurette called "4Play Film," (an entertaining introduction to the band) & all 5 music videos. There is at least one hard-to-find easter egg on the disc, but I won't give away any juicy details. Check the band's website for further info.
As for the music videos, they're brilliant! What a shame that these innovative, stylish clips will never see the light of day on american television. If the Scissor Sisters had been around in 1985, they would have been huge MTV stars, but apparantly there is no airtime left for groundbreaking artists like them- just more episodes of The Real World & Pimp My Ride. So if you want to become a "Siccor Sister," go out & spend your ten bucks on this DVD & get to know Jake, Ana, & the rest of the band. It's worth every penny & more.
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Must For Fans of this Awesome Group! Review: The Scissor Sisters DVD: We are the Scissor Sisters and So Are You! is just what the doctor ordered.
On the disc are the following:
- It has a full concert of this dynamic and outlandish group
- All of their current videos
- Interviews with the group
- Background info on the group and its members, including how they got started as a group
- All sorts of other really fun stuff including at least one easter egg which is footage of lead singer Jake Shears getting dressed - in other words, you see Jake in his birthday suit!
For those of us a bit older who remember when MTV actually played videos (and non-rap videos at that) we yearn for this type of DVD.
The group is outlandish and entertaining.
This DVD is really great - go get it!
Rating: Summary: Be a Scissor Sister! Review: This DVD absolutely captures the Scissor Sister's experience. Filmed concerts is a tricky business. What is lively in the flesh can often feel muted when filmed. This concert performance is an exception: the band and the audience are crackling with engergy and the chemistry between the two are evident. The live shows proves that while they are flamboyant, campy, and ir-reverant, they are also superior musicians and songwriters. All the band members are excellent. The nicest surprise is Ana Matronic, whose stage prescence and ease on stage are unexpected. On stage and off she truly seems to anchor the band and act as their spokesperson. In addition to the great concert you get every single music video filmed prior to the DVD's release (they've filmed a video for 'filthy/gorgeous' since). You also get a documentary which is informative and entertaining and a wonderful, bizarre short film. I have been a huge Scissor Sisters fan for a year now. Having already saw them live last month, I didn't expect a DVD to be up to the same level. Luckily my expectaction was proven wrong. This DVD truly does capture the Scissor Sister's experience. The list price for this DVD is amazingly low: The concert, plus the extra music videos and documentaries make this purchase one amazing deal. Get it now! If you don't already own the CD get it at the same time!
Rating: Summary: For fans and non-fans alike Review: This dvd is a must have for any fan of Scissor Sisters. Even if you are not a fan, I would recommend this dvd at this price. After watching this, you will want to be fan. There is some pretty interesting items on this group included. Some things that are included are documentries on the group, a concert, interviews, and music videos. This dvd also does contain an interesting easter egg. I won't say what it is but I will say how to access it.
From the main menu click on songs. Click on songs 8-14. Wait for the menu to reload. When it reloads highlight the main menu arrow then push up until you see the Scissor Sister arrow. Enjoy!!
The only thing I didn't like was the fan commentary on the videos. They rarely spoke. It would have been nice had they had the group doing their own commentary. But oh well.
Rating: Summary: Style AND Content Review: This DVD's a great introduction to the band, containing everything from a complete live set, videos, interviews (the Muppets were an early influence?), a recitation of the poem "Jabberwocky," backstories -- and of course, bare-butt footage of Jake onstage in Spain. I've missed them live, but will certainly NOT pass up the opportunity next time 'round. For the Scissorhood, this one's a must have.
The only thing missing is the video for "Filthy/Gorgeous." Oh, well -- There's the enhanced CD IMPORT for that.
Rating: Summary: I love the band and the DVD! Now about the menu songs.... Review: Under each of the 5 main menu options, there is a different song that is played while each member is doing something (or sometimes nothing). Does anyone know what each song is? (One is at least a remix of "Laura," but I dont' know what the remix is...)
Rating: Summary: Finally, Scissor Sisters in Concert! Review: Very highly recommended, the full length concert footage is a must see. The Sisters rock! If you are not lucky enough to have them visit your city on tour, you can experience them live at home. I was very impressed. The extras are great, especially the background information on the band from the members themselves. Again, this comes very highly recommended!
