John Cale - Fragments of a Rainy Season

Summary: Very poor sound quality destroys a great performance
Review: I just popped this DVD in and right away you notice the audio is sounds fuzzy and muffled and badly over compressed- leaving very little dynamic range, which is something John Cales makes great use of. The audio sounds like it was made to be for TV broadcast. At low levels you hear it all--so for watching through your TV's junky speakers it may be fine. Very sad as the CD of the same title has pretty good sound quality and is one of my favorite albums. The DVD audio lacks any clarity at all, a very muddy mix. The less important part to me is the video, it is equally as bad, very poor lighting makes Cale look like a corpse. I can only hope John Cale doesn't approve of this poor bootleg quality release.
