Summary: a gem to cherish
Review: As any visual footage on Ike & Tina Turner is pretty scarce, I guess we may be thankful for this great DVD. Their 1971-show being integrally covered by Dutch television, it reveals Ike & Tina supported by a pretty good band and, last but not least, by the marvellous Ikettes. All this at a time their performance must have been at its very peak.

Review: I never thought I would see the day this particular concert would make it to dvd. I am glad that someone reached into the archives to pull out this gem of a performance. Up until now I had only seen clips of this performance on such programs as "VH1 Legends" or "Behind The Music". But now, a whole new generation gets to experience the Ike and Tina Turner Revue in all its splendor!

Tina is nothing short of enchanting as she and the Ikettes storm the stage! Tina and the Ikettes, shriek, wail and howl. The dancing is energetic and Tina makes you feel the kinetic energy of the performance. She is in fine voice on this performance. Not to be left out, Ike and the Kings of Rhythm are in great form as well. Not to be outdone by his wife, Ike too, enters the stage donning a paige boy wig!

The only two downsides to the disc is the fact that even with the disc having been re-mastered and restored, there are still some defects. That is to be expected when one reads the insert which tells of the process that had to be used in order to even obtain the film. The other i the fact that for some reason, other portions of the show were edited out of the final content of the dvd. These are most notably the omissions of "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "Land of 1,000 Dances". Ike and Tina (at that time) would NEVER have omitted "IBLYTL" from the repertoire. And as lewd as it still can be considered, it still should have been left in the video.

In all, I cannot believe I finally own this concert. It is Ike and Tina Turner at their best. It's great that new generations will get to see what they were all about onstage!

Review: This is some of the best footage of Ike and Tina live I have seen. As a huge Tina Turner fan, I have been searching for a long time for the old stuff. This DVD/CD combo is fantastic. It shows Tina during her peak in the Revue and you can see how her performances back in the seventies have inspired stars of today to take a leaf out of Tinas book when it comes to giving a fantastic show. Beyonce is obviously a fan of the Tina moves.

This DVD shows Ike and Tina performing some of their greatest hits on stage. Unlike the CD part of the combo, you get to hear Tina speak and interact with the audience, which is fantastic and in the end is what a live concert is all about. I was sad to see they don't have the footage of RESPECT, IVE BEEN LOVING YOU TOO LONG or LAND OF 1000 DANCES on the DVD. Loving you too long, although a song Tina ended up hating to perform, was great to watch, and vocally she was amazing. Tina looks amazing on this DVD and I was smiling all the way through.

The CD is a typical live CD of the Revue. It has had most if not all of Tinas interaction with the audience edited out, like the start of Ooh Poo Pah Doo, but the sound is fantastic and her voice on this disc is AMAZING! The raspy, rocky, r&b vocals that Tina is famous for sends shivers down my spine.

My only main complaint with this combo is the editing out the songs mentioned earlier. The track listing on the DVD is also slightly out of order, and accoridng to the AMAZON song listing, is missing Shake a Tail Feather and another track. A typo perhaps?

Overall a GREAT DVD for anyone who wants to watch an awesome concert by a fantastic group. Tina was and will always be great on stage. Highlights to watch out for are the two encores where the audience begs Tina for more, Proud Mary of course is always a crowd pleaser, and also watch for right at the end when everyone but Tina is left on stage and Tina goes off to shake hands with the audience. A definate sign of her fabulous future! And the bonus footage of Tina at Soul to Soul. An awesome performance and she looks great. Gotta love that white and brown dress Tina! Also something that blew my mind is Tina doing Come Together. This is the first time I have seen footage of Tina doing that song, and she does an amazing job. Hard to describe in words how awesome it is, but you can actually GET the meaning of song the way she sings it. She kills the Beatles any day. And the moves through out this DVD rock!!! We need more footage like this to see that Tina was the first to do most of the moves groups are doing today!

Heres to more Ike and Tina concert footage in the future!!

Review: Wow, it's about time we have Ike & Tina footage--not just the 20 second clips or 1 minute clips. The energy that Tina & the Ikettes have is great. I mean, you see all the moves artist do today, and you know they have to give Ike & Tina credit. How many female artists in those days would stir up the audiance like that? She was great. And knowing now what has been well documented about there marriage, it gives you an interesting perspective to see them perform from that time period when no one had a clue. It's also interesesting to note that as raw as Tina's performance was on this film, you don't see the audiance as alive as they should. It's like they were sedated or something. But maybe back then , ppl were just more reserved and just didn't know how to react to R&B/ Soul music. However, toward the end you can see a lot of the audiance, mostly the young men up agianst the stage wanting more; it took them awhile, but Ike & Tina finally got them out of they're seats. The DVD booklet explains that the footage was shot within a month of Proud Mary hitting the TOP 5 R&B and Pop charts. Musically, it was a great time for them. It's funny that as great as this film was, and as Tina was, she'd have to wait another 15 years to become a star. It's really hard to believe that as fact when watching this concert. Can't wait till we see more of Ike & Tina; would like to see them in the early 60's when Tina was really singing the blues.
