Rating: Summary: Nice to have on DVD, but after so long, too little TOO LATE? Review: Don't get me wrong: I AM A HUGE SOFT CELL/Marc Almond fan! I have ALL their LPs, 12" and CDs and videos and even saw them last year on their ill-fated but BRILLIANT "comeback" American tour - but...I must admit, after waiting literally over TWO DECADES to get this on DVD (the VHS is loooong out of print, but I have it, too!), I feel that they should have ADDED a bit more to this DVD package - c'mon, while the original "NON-STOP" videos are still stunning in their cheap/campy/80s flavor, but why not toss in some SOLO videos from MARC, Dave Ball's GRID, LIVE footage, interviews with the band, MTV stuff, etc.? I don't fault either Marc or Dave...this is just another example of record labels strip-mining their vaults and putting out ANYTHING on DVD, no matter how minimal or incomplete, just to make a dollar on "free" catalog product...that's what it is now, simply PRODUKT. *Better to buy SOFT CELL's stunning return-to-form reunion CD from 2003.
Rating: Summary: Finaly, Soft Cell's videos on DVD ! Review: This is just great.
Since the 1983 issue of the 'Non Stop Exotic Video Show' on VHS which became a collectors item, we weren't able to obtain those videos, and now, here they are !
Lead singer Marc Almond (along with Dave Ball) is showing his theatrical skills while presenting the videos in a non stop show of men, women, animals and dwarves ? Really some bizarre person !
And what do we have here ?
So, we have entertain me, bedsitter, frustration, torch, seedy films, secret life, youth, tainted love, memorabilia, sex dwarf, what, say hello wave goodbye.
I really love this one ! This one is my favorite !
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This is one of the first video albums. They did a video for every song. They use to show these videos on MTV every day in 1982 because there were not very many videos back then. Hard to believe. "Tainted Love" is a disturbing video. Soft Cell was a great electronic band. I forgot how some some songs like "Seedy Films" were brilliant.
