Summary: Fantastic! (from someone that was there)
Review: First I would like to mention that I don't usually write reviews (in fact this is the first time I write one), but this is something that I have to write about.
I live in Brazil and went to see this show in Rio de Janeiro (~1000 km away from my home). Sure, I also took the opportunity to enjoy Rio, certainly one of the most beatiful and captivating cities in Brazil.
Well, being a big Rush fan I had high expectations for the show, but I can just say that it surpassed them all. It was simply fantastic, I cannot describe what is seeing Rush in Maracanã and in the middle of 40.000 people!
Regarding the DVD I was expecting it since the show, and again it surpassed my expectations. The cameras catch many moments of excitement and emotion of the public, as well as the astounishing performance of the trio. I'm sorry for who complained that "there's too much noise from the public", but I think that this is envy about not seeing one of the most energetic shows of the career of the band (as they said).
And why are so many people complaining about the sound quality?? I'm not an audio freak nor have an expensive equipment, but I found the sound quality very good, maybe the brasilian version of the DVD is different... Seriously, this DVD is great, it even includes a (very funny) documentary about the brasilian tour. If you like Rush buy it, at least to have an idea what was that night in Rio!

Summary: Headache a happening..
Review: Wow, who messed this one up?? This dvd was very unpleasent to the eyes and it gave me a headache after about 5 minutes of viewing... 2 second flashes of music scenes.. What the heck is going on here? Just when you are trying to focus on a scene.. it changes.. stupid.

They had a perfect opportunity and they blew it.. Whoever created this dvd should take photography 101.. I guess you could use this video for a kind of Chinese water torture thing.

Except this one is for the eyes..

Summary: Rush at top of the world
Review: I was lucky enough to see this tour live. This dvd is proof that RUSH is the best band around. They sound so tight and the tunes sound just as they do recorded 20+ years ago.

Summary: Don't mess with your system and this DVD!!!
Review: I totally agree with what Carlo's said about the audience. The South American culture is more expressive than the rest of the world. If you attend to a concert in North America, the environment feels way out different from the one you will experience in many South American countries or even in Central America. By this I don't mean one is better than the other. What I do like from the North American culture is that you will see order from the moment you arrive to the venue and the time the show ends and you drive back home, and the most important you really enjoy the show, but men....Isn't so cool to hear the crowd sing with every tune?...Just tell me in what Rush live record (official or bootleg) have you heard the people so excited?

Don't mess with your system and the DVD trying to reduce the crowds noise...Feel the audience and this ultimate Rush experience. Enjoy the show...THIS IS THE FIRST TIME RUSH HAS DECIDED TO LOOK OVERSEAS AND THEY REALLY MADE A GOOD DECISION BY HAVING A SHOW IN MÉXICO AND RECORDING THE ONE IN BRAZIL...

THERE WILL BE FANS ALL OVER THE WORLD, BUT YOU CANNOT COMPARE THEM WITH OUR CULTURE.

My review to both the CD and DVD resumes in one phrase....ESTA PALOMA!!!

Summary: 1 Star For This Crappy DVD!
Review: There is no arguing Rush's music and the mark they've made. But sad to say Rush has succumbed to MTV oriented production.

Basically, the visual recipe for this DVD is this: 1 or 2 seconds of Alex playing a chord, 2 seconds of Neil doing a drum fill, 1 or 2 seconds of Geddy singing or playing base, 1 or 2 seconds of the audience or audience member yelling into the camera and 1 or 2 seconds of the entire venue. Repeat this entire sequence over and over for 90 plus minutes without stopping.

This DVD sucks! I suppose this is a product of MTV but why in the hell does every music DVD (Rush In Rio & Iron Maiden's Rock In Rio) have to be littered with those non-stop 2 second quick cuts! It has literally ruined the DVD viewing experience. This style of hyper editing is great for non-musical acts like Britney Speares and idiot P. Diddy videos, but not a band like Rush that is music first. I want to see Rush play their instruments.

Shame on Rush for not knowing its audience! Their audience is not typical MTV audience that demands those quick cuts found on music videos. Rush fans are music buffs first and image oriented second. If we Rush fans regarded how they look as more important than their sound, their looks would have deflected our appreciation for the band years ago (based on good looks being a must these days).

The only reason that I give this DVD a star and quickly sale this crap to a used DVD store is due to the documentary included on disc 2.

If you must see a taped concert of Rush, look for "A Show Of Hands" or Rush's "Chronicles." Better yet, go see the band live. Otherwise, skip this MTV-esque garbage and buy King Crimson's "Eyes Wide Open" DVD.

Summary: Thank you RUSH
Review: I have been a RUSH fan for 22 years now but only got to see them twice in the UK (Signals and Roll the Bones tours). I now live in New Zealand and doubted I'd ever get to see them live again. Then this dvd came along. I was stunned by the perfection of the performance. I almost felt I was there and was grinning inanely to myself as more and more classics were played. My only gripe - why only the intro to 2112? Re. the documentary, it was great to see Alex's wacky humour shining through and to get an insight into the close friendship between him and Geddy. As for the professor - this man is no mere mortal!!!

Summary: BEST Concert DVD I own or seen, for that matter
Review: I have more than 75 concert DVD's and was only a lukewarm Rush fan before purchasing this DVD last week. I collect concert DVD's and generally don't write reviews but I was absolutely floored by everything; the sound, the camera angles, the crowd and the documentary. It is perfect in every detail. As I said, I have so many concert DVD's and only a few impress me. I could see watching this one again and again and can't wait to play it for company..

Summary: Don`t know what you are talking about
Review: All the 2 or 1 stars reviews sucks. All this people complain about the crowd noise and the cameras rollin on the crowd, and Geddy`s voice can`t hear it, BLA BLA BLA. I guess they haven`t (and never will) find the esence of this masterpiece. You all are people that are used to go to the theater, sit on the chairs, listen the concert, a flew claps when it`s over the song, and go back to your home. The fans you see here have waited for 30 years to see their heroes that have inspired their lives. How can you shut up a 40,000 crowd that is singin every lyric, every note, every beat with all his guts? This was a tour for Americans (and don`t mean Canada or US, I mean Mexico, Central America, South America) I`m sorry but that`s an experience you`ll never feel (even if you were at a Rush Concert). That feelin is something that only Alex, Geddy and Neil and the fans that were there know it. Like Neil said: "This is not an ordinary audience". How do I know it? I WAS THERE
