Summary: David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks
Review: Bought the video to see David & Eddie....so the 5 stars are for them only. I wanted to see how they performed in this 21 city tour in the summer of '87 and compare their act with the Live at the Apollo with Hall & Oates(this video was released in '85). Some additional grey hairs, a few missed notes...but they don't detract from the duos' overall dynamic performance. Ruffin's rendition of his late 60's composition "Statue of a Fool" was all powerful. "Just My Imagination" showed this dynamic duo's special bond (in song & friendship).A favorite is an extended version of "My Girl" ...Wow!! best rendition of this song I've seen in video. I have some old black & white clips of the original Temptations (w/ David & Eddie)singing "My Girl" which I can compare them to. As far as I know, there is no available video of the original group singing an extended version of this song that is available in the market. The 10 songs they performed are keepers for the Ruffin/Kendricks fans....these 2 definitely defined The Temptations' sound. Peace.

Summary: Eddie/David
Review: David and Eddie did a wonderful job recreating the TEMPS magic it is a must see for TEMPS fans. Both gentelman show why they were the Tempting Temptations with their voices and dance moves. When Eddie sung "Just My Imagination" and David joined him, I thought I was going to come out of my chair. You can see the love and respect for each other. I truely recomend owning this part of history after watching them perform you go back in history and think what you were doing you first heard Temptations.

Summary: RUFFIN really gets a groove on
Review: David Ruffin really gets a groove on in this one. It's so nice too see one of the greatest lead singers of them all on tour in his later years, still able to sing as well as he did back then. He's doing some of his solo hits like My Whole World Ended and Statue of a Fool and great Temptations leads like My Girl and I Know I'm Losing You plus a medley of other Temps hits. It's wonderful to see Eddie looking fine though his voice is gone by this time, 1987, unfortunately. He does his great Just My Imagination. And although Mary Wells died a few years later of throat cancer you would never know it by her voice. She still sings exceedingly well. Martha Reeves doees her old hits in an odd voice but on the whole it's fantastic to see these Motown greats do their thing. Ruffin and Kendricks are the closing act as they should be because they Get Down.

Summary: GREATNESS PREVAILS
Review: DAVID RUFFIN,EDDIE KENDRICKS AND THEIR BACKUP GROUP MAKE THIS DVD A TREASURE TO HAVE EMOTIONS STIRRED WHILE WATCHING THESE TWO LATE GREAT TEMPTATIONS WISHING THAT THEY WERE STILL AROUND TO ENJOY.MARY WELLS WAS GOOD BUT COULD HAVE LEFT CURTIS WOMACK HOME(HIS ATTIRE)MARTHA REEVES SOULD HAVE STAYED HOME ALSO JUDGING BY THE WAY SHE SANG. BUT OVERALL DAVID RUFFIN AND EDDIE KENDRICKS WITH A SMOOTH SOUNDING BACK UP GROUP WERE WELL WORTH THE PURCHASE OF THIS DVD I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO BUY THIS DISC.

Summary: Eddie and David are the Stars
Review: Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin were wonderful. Although past their prime by 1987, Eddie was very energetic and sounded great when he sang in his natural tenor vs. the falsetto. He and David performed well together. Martha Reeves' and Mary Wells' performances were not worth watching after the first viewing. I have watched Eddie's and David's performances many times. The DVD is well worth the money if you are fans of Eddie and David.

Summary: Pleased
Review: I absolutely loved David and Eddie. It was so wonderful seeing Eddie Kendericks and David Ruffin together. I let my brother borrow the DVD and we can't stop talking about their performances. I have only had it for a few short days, but between my brother and myself, we have watched it no less than a dozen times already. I loved it. Mary Wells was okay and Martha Reeves wasn't that great, but I would buy it again because of David and Eddie. Thanks for making it available.

Summary: Eddie/David
Review: I just rec'd my dvd earlier this week, and I love it!!! I love to see EJK and Ruffin onstage. I own the Street Gold Original Leads tape, and these two were made to perform!!!! EJK looks delightful in that suit. The Tempts are one of the reasons I wish I was alive in the 60s.

EJK has so much stage presence and he could barely keep still. There was a discussion on a messageboard that said he wasn't a good dancer. Are you kidding? This man can groove. Someone explained it as dancing is too easy for him, and I am inclined to agree. Especially during the I'm Losing You part! He is really having fun. I liked the sense of brotherhood between him and Ruffin. In the Emperors of Soul box set, Shelley Berger mentions that in 85, Eddie's voice was shot. I personally feel that was quite tacky and downright rude, tactless, and wrong to say. To me, and believe me, I know when someone's voice makes me cringe. I knew that it was Eddie and he sounded fine. Sure his voice was failing due to the smoking, but you know it's Sweet Eddie up there. He looked good, y'all!!!! And believe me, I would rather have a weak voiced Eddie sing Just My Imagination or any other of his songs WAY MORE than I would any of the guys that followed him. Same with Ruffin. Can't nobody sing My Girl, Ain't Too Proud to Beg, I'm Losing You, etc. LIKE HE CAN!!!!

I haven't watched Mary Wells' segments yet or Martha Reeves', but if you are an EJK fanatic or a Ruffin fan, you GOTTA own this!!
