Summary: Finally!
Review: Finally, another release by the great progressive instrumental rock band Sky. I have to believe that the negative review shown elsewhere on this site is largely due to the fact that Sky, themselves, set the bar so high on their first three incredible albums. Admittedly, Paul Hart's intonation is off in places and the band could have used another rehearsal or two before this live appearance. That said, this is an excellent concert DVD. Kevin Peek's guitar solos on "Hotta" and "Cannonball" are his best yet. The disk includes some very strong new compositions like "Praeludium" and "Jehad," with it's exotic, infectious rhythm. Also included is the best version yet of their old tune "Meheeco."

Very highly recommended!

And, if the BBC and any record compaies are listening, we still need (not want - need) to have the Westminster Abbey concert and the "Hight Music" TV show released on DVD.

Summary: True - Sky w/o John Williams But Worth Buying
Review: I am a huge Sky fan and a bit tentative on purchasing this DVD w/o the presence of John Williams. However, with that said, this is still a very good performance and a "must have" for your collection if you are into classical inspired rock or jazz. Kevin Peeks is an underrated guitarist and on this DVD he shines (especially on "Son of Hotta" and "Praeludium"). At moments Peek's style reminds me of Focus' Jan Akkerman. The band seemed a bit tentative when they began "Son of Hotta" but midway through the band seems to settle in and groove very nicely (Herbie Flowers bass playing is quite good here). "New member", Paul Hart, contributions on keyboards, violin and mandolin, adds more depth to the traditional "Sky" sound. He provides a great fill for Steve Gray's keyboards (which were somewhat low in the mix). Triston Fry appears not to have lost any of his drumming/percussive skills. Flowers and Fry provide a very solid rhythm section for the band. The band can go from rock to very light moments with Fry just tapping on his drumsticks and edge of of drum kit while Flowers keeps the bass churning. Nice rendition of the keyboard driven "Cannonball". A few negatives. "Hotta" is slightly drawn out with all members doing solos..a bit tedious..(however Peek's guitar solo is a standout). Flowers stand-up bass solo on "Would You Say I'm in Love With You" is also a bit tedious. Overall, from classical inspired rock to jazz, the band does a commendable job. I am glad to finally have Sky on DVD. I only hope someone decides to release the 80's television special "Live from Dury Lane" (this one with John Williams and filmed during the holiday season - Santa, snowflakes and all..great show!) But for now, if you are a sky fan, buy this DVD, it is very good despite the noticeable lack of John Williams.
