PICTURE QUALITY: Average quality.

SOUND QUALITY: Excellent quality! Every music DVD should have sound like this.

EXTRA MATERIAL: Not much there, but the price indicates it; Freelove is the only complete live video and 4 tiny clips from fans, Dave and so on; the other 2 live songs are just songs with no visual support

GOOD REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS DVD:
- MUST HAVE for DM fans
- Just some video footage but for a great price!

Don't treat this release as bad - 10 $ is worth it anyway!

Summary: Well? Where's the video?
Review: Depeche Mode fans are a very loyal group of people. We will buy anything and everything that Depeche Mode release. Although I would never part with this DVD because I'm such a huge Depeche Mode fan, I really have to wonder what sort of thought went behind releasing this DVD. The promotional video clip for "Freelove" IS NOT EVEN ON THIS DVD!

This is the "DVD single" for "Freelove"? Huh??

It makes no sense. The live footage that is contained here is paltry at best (see the other reviews before mine for an exact listing.) It really amounts to a big pile of big, fat NOTHING! It's not clear, it's not particularly interesting. It's not necessary!

The only thing that makes this DVD make sense is that the people in charge of releasing things at Warner Bros. wanted to see just how obsessive Depeche Mode fans are. Perhaps they decided to put together the crummiest, slightest, collection of Depeche Mode hodge-podge that they could stick together to play a joke on their fans. All I can say is that it's tacky, mean, and not a good way to treat longtime fans. I really and truly hope that Martin, Dave, and Fletch had nothing to do with the idea behind this release.

At the very least, this DVD should have contained all of the promotional videos from "Exciter." Hopefully they will be included as extras on the upcoming "Live In Paris" DVD due out later in 2002.

I really find it extremely difficult to be negative about anything Depeche Mode put out because I love them so much. This release is very frustrating to fathom. We deserve a better DVD than this! I'm giving it two stars, just because it's Depeche Mode. This DVD is only for absolute die hard, completist fans.

Summary: A special treat...
Review: I can understand how some fans would be disappointed by this release. The DVD quality isn't the greatest, and this song isn't one of Depeche Mode's better tracks. However, I spent my 19th birthday at the show where these live recordings were made (I can even catch a glimpse of myself in the crowd in one shot), so this DVD has a special sentimental value for me. The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a live recording to add to your collection, purchase the Live in Paris DVD from this same tour. If you were at the Philadelphia Show in 2001 and want an inexpensive memento of the night, get this.

Summary: A special treat...
Review: I completely understand the disappointment many DM fans have shown for this DVD release. But being that I was at the Philadelphia concert back in June of 2001, having these live tracks which were taken from that concert and having the opportunity to see Freelove again, knowing that I'm one of those voices singing "FREELOVE!" back to Dave, is just wonderful. We knew we were being filmed that night, but they didn't tell us what would be done with the footage. I only wish the whole concert was released on DVD, but it looks like they chose the Paris concert for that honor instead. This was their first attempt at a DVD Single and I hope they will try it again for future releases (like "Goodnight Lovers" for example, which deserves a U.S. release!). I hope DVD Singles really catch on because there are so many things that can be done with them. The "4 Short Films" on this DVD are the most disappointing, since they're only about 30 seconds each. You get a quick look at DM doing a soundcheck, seeing some lucky fans getting to see DM backstage signing autographs (wish I was one of them), a quick little soundbite of Dave during the making of the Freelove video, but the most upsetting is the 30 seconds they give you performing Black Celebration Live. What was the point of that? To leave us wanting more? Believe me...we're wanting more! Again, I know most fans are disappointed with this release and I appreciate it more for sentimental reasons, but being that it costs only a few bucks more than most CD singles and less money than an Import CD single, it's pretty good...for a first attempt. Let's hope the next DVD single is more faithful and fulfilling.

Stay Devoted!

Summary: This is just a single.!
Review: I dont see why so many people complain. This DVD costs 9$. I bought this along with a book so the shipping was basicaly free. When I go out and buy a DM single at a store like HMV I pay MORE then 9$

Here for 9 dollars you get a nice big package, a videos plus two audio tracks. I understand the complaints if this video was 15 or 20$ but its 9.99. Tell me where else you can get anything like this for 9 dollars.

Its defenetly worth the price, and it looks damn good on my shelf with my other DM DVDs.

Summary: "DVD Single" an insult to Depeche Mode Fans
Review: Like you, I gobble up everything with Depeche Mode. When I saw this DVD in the stores marketed with the tagline "Freelove Live Plus Four Short Films," I thought I was in store for a great experience.

What I found however was outrageous and insulting. How Depeche Mode could put forth such an audacious product is unfathomable and utterly reprehensible.

The live video of Freelove is a bootleg shot during the recent Exciter tour. The image is... poor; you could have shot it better with your camcorder (I know I could have). It's not even a truthful video as they cut and pasted pieces of many different songs shot from wide angles and sync them up to the Freelove soundtrack.

The "four short films" are even more insulting. Each "film" will take up about thirty seconds of your time and are utterly pointless. The meaningless clips are so short... they make you wonder where the hell Depeche Mode's past artistry has gone too...

To waste a perfectly good DVD media on this shameful content is unforgivable. I love Depeche Mode with all my heart but this release is simply inexcusable.

Summary: Over-pricedlove
Review: This item is nowhere near worth the cost. This DVD contains five "video" tracks and two "audio" tracks. The video for Freelove is a live version which is not terribly interesting. It has various shots of the Exciter Tour set being shown over a live recording of Freelove. A live DVD of the entire show is rumoured to be seeing a release date sometime this year, so that would make this video portion of this DVD worthless.

The four "Short Films" included are 30 second clips which appear to be previews of the previously mentioned Exciter Tour DVD. You get 30 seconds of each of the following: "In Your Room" (soundcheck), backstage signing autographs whilst "Dirt" is playing, "Black Celebration" live, and finally Dave on the set of the real "Freelove" video. Too short to even bother with.

Now, the reason I bought the DVD, the audio tracks, "Breathe" and "The Dead of Night," both live. In the past when I've bought "enhanced" CD singles, I could watch the video portion on my computer and play the audio portion in any CD player. For some reason, I thought I would be able to do this with a DVD single, but that's not the case. These audio tracks can only be played with a DVD player (or DVD-Rom). The audio tracks cannot be ripped from the disc either to be burned onto CD.

This is the first and last DVD single I will ever buy. ...
