Rating: Summary: Pure garbage Review: For an incredible artist to put out an ego pumping narration like this is just a slap in the face to his fans. Save you money on this one it's not worth the time of day. Lenny you should come back to earth.
Rating: Summary: Not quite what I'd hoped for...darn it! Review: Having heard so much about Lenny's live performances, I was eager to purchase this "concert" disc. When I got my "special edition" version yesterday, I checked out the set list, popped it in the DVD, turned it up, waited for the concert to begin...and immediately became frustrated with what I saw. Instead of pure concert material, Director Mark Seliger uses the "MTV" approach of capturing Lenny "Live": the focus is as much on his off-stage persona as it is on the live performance material. The editing chops up the live concert material with the documentary approach that I wasn't expecting. Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing that side of him, but as a seperate piece of footage: let the concert stuff stand alone, unbroken! So, if you're expecting a start-to-finish Lenny Kravitz performance like I was, you'll be disappointed. The song list is good: Bank Robber Man, Rock and Roll is Dead, American Woman, Stillness of Heart, If I could Fall in Love, Pay to Play, Again, Dig In, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Believe, Beyond The 7th Sky, Let Love Rule, Fly Away and a video clip of Yesterday is Gone. I just wish it really was "Lenny Kravitz in Concert", not "The Life of Lenny".

Rating: Summary: Style over substance Review: I loved this DVD. Some of the other reviews state that they found the talking quite annoying, whereas I found it to be a great add-on to the DVD. You got to see another side of Lenny than just the performer. You got to see Lenny interact with his daughter Zoe, see him hanging out at home and hear his thoughts on being on tour. It is quite intriguing to see that someone with such fame can share so intimately his views, thoughts, sorrows and happiness. I think it was very brave of him to do. The live footage was great as well and reminded me a lot of the concert. I went to see him in Vancouver in Aug of 2002. great show live and great show on the DVD as well! If you are a TRUE LENNY FAN, you will enjoy and appreciate this DVD. I sure did.
Rating: Summary: Good Picture, but TOO MUCH talking....! Review: If you're thinking your getting a full out concert, think again! There are many cut scenes between songs and much too much talking during the song. Why couldn't they wait until after the song is over for the commentary? This is really my only complaint. The picture and sound are GREAT so this is still a must have for any Lenny fan.
Rating: Summary: Lenny "Live" Rules! Review: Lenny "Live" is a very well thought out DVD. If you navigate around it's options, you can have any style DVD you want with some very cool extras. But please do not expect to find a song on here that is not on the list. But there is a very cool acoustic version of "Can't Get You Off Of My Mind" at the end of the DVD. So are you ready to take a stroll into some cool parts of the DVD? Cool! The DVD opens with a very cool remake of Earth Wind and Fire's "Shining Star" with different pictures in the DVD framing in the background. If you love the song, it will loop over and over if you let it and the song will never end and you will not be able to tell where it ends either since there are no gaps in the loop. Great thought! You will have a main menu in front of you. The selections are "Live", "Song Selection", Special Features",and "Sound". the "Live" selection will take you through parts of songs as well as Lenny backstage, on the road and in his Miami home, which is very cool! You will also get a glimpse into the music business politics he is so frustrated with after 13 years of trying to do what is right for music and not the CEOs of the record industry. Some great goofing around scenes in there as well. The "Song Selections" option lets you start the "Live" format from any point in the DVD. So if you are hooked on a certain part, you can play it when you load up the DVD. The DVD will continue to play the rest of the DVD from that point you select. The "Special Features" selection will gives you the ability to just play the live tracks in their entirety for those who just want the music. It also gives you an interview of Lenny done by Mark Seliger and an interview of Lenny's 90 year old Grandfather done by Lenny. Very cool interview too! You also have the out takes located in there. The funniest has to be "Lenny's Biggest Fan". This guy is so funny to watch on how he is getting off on the song "Are You Gonna Go My Way". It's almost like watching a Deadhead flowing to the jam. There is also "Sy's Groupies" where you get to see Lenny's Dad and some friend's chat on the tour bus. Then you have "Lenny Shaves" where he busts on the camera guy who is following him everywhere. "Hold My Calls" is a very cool out take. Someone was not able to make the concert and her friends called her on the phone. Well, Lenny got their phone, called her and then played a song for her. Some funny stuff with that whole scene too. "You've Got A Demo" is where some guy who has no clue who he is asks him for one. This area also goes into the arraigning of the songs for the 2002 World Tour. Finally in the Out Takes there is "That's Still A Young Man" where Lenny snags himself with his age as he talks about his life to his manager, who was also the manager for Jimmi Hendrix! The "Sound" selection lets you choose between stereo and surround sound. A great option in my opinion. So Lenny and Mark gave the fans almost every option they could in the DVD. You can see behind the scenes or just listen to the whole concert. You can watch some interviews, watch your favorite song or part over and over and choose what sound you want as well. The live performances are incredible as I think Lenny has the best live shows around. There are so many other great parts and funny scenes I left out because I'm not giving it away! This is a very cool DVD! Oh, and if you think the sound is too loud, try turning down the volume on your TV. But if you think it's not loud enough, as I do, run it through your stereo and blast away! Lenny will take you deep into his funky soul and leave you charged and wanting more. I "Believe" you will watch this DVD "Again" and "Again". Let Love Rule!
Rating: Summary: Pompous posturing! Review: lenny lectures about how he wants to be looked at as only a musician, but doesn't shut up once during even one song on this DVD, so you never get to hear a whole song complete. I would never watch this again since I found it very annoying.
Rating: Summary: Lenny Kravitz - Live Review: Looks and sounds great, but Lenny's ego gets in the way of what could have been a really good show.
Rating: Summary: Cut and paste Review: The editing kills what could have been a great concert DVD. As previously stated in another review, Lenny talks about wanting to be regarded as a musician, yet the film de-emphasizes the music, pushing it into the background. Lenny has a great band and what is seen of the performances is excellent, which only makes it more frustrating when every song is cut off.
Rating: Summary: Lenny live what??? Review: Well I must say I was quite disappointed by this dvd. I was looking forward to buy Lenny's first live concert on dvd ever since I have never had the chance to get to see him live. But I soon realized it was a bad copy of Madonna's "Truth or Dare"... backstage footage and some ruined live track. When songs are almost complete they are spoken over. Lights and photography and sound and colors are all right that's why it deserves 2 stars out of five rather then 1 or even none. Looking forward to a real live concert or a single video collection at least!
