Description:
If expert musical jams and Colorado ski slopes are your idea of heaven on earth, the String Cheese Incident's Waiting for the Snow to Fall is a visit to Shangri-la. A worthy companion to the band's Evolution DVD, this easygoing documentary (coproduced by ski-movie king Warren Miller) follows SCI to their roots in the crisp mountain environs of Telluride, Colorado, and points nearby, as they prepare for a 2002 Winter Festival concert in Denver's Rocky Mountain Fillmore auditorium (released separately). Having paid their dues with several years of heavy touring and zero-budget amenities (including a rickety bus, revived here for some nostalgic bonding), the group members of this democratically leaderless band are relaxed, musically polished, and united in their love for skiing and music as modes of spiritual expression. The five bandmates reflect on their past, the symbiotic nature of their collaborations, and their cooperative philosophies about this juncture in their ongoing progression. "Extra Cheese" bonus features include two multiangle concert excerpts, additional interview clips, crew visits, and wipeouts on the slopes. A delicious vibe, no matter how you cut it. --Jeff Shannon
